Yong Jie felt like the man was leading him away from the inn.
"Who are you?" Yong Jie called and the man turned around, unsheathing his sword and Yong Jie pulled Qing from its sheath and countered the man's attack.
They exchanged blows in mid-air and landed on opposite roofs. The man was good with his sword.
"Ah!" Yong Jie exclaimed when the man continued to run on the roofs. "Trying to run away again!"
Yong Jie chased with his sword pointing towards the man's direction and the man turned and swung his sword and Yong Jie twisted his body on air on the direction of the man's swing and landed on another roof.
The sound of their swords clashing and screeching in the silent night was loud and Yong Jie felt his blood boiled in excitement. He never get the chance to fight to this extent before since no one was as good as him in the Palace and Yong Xian kept on refusing to duel with him. He was glad he met this man.
Their fight goes on exchanging blows after blows. The man's footwork was good as they continued fighting on the roof. Yong Jie could say that they were a match. Almost the same strength as him. Yong Jie was sure that the man wasn't a demon. He couldn't sense any demonic presence. The man was only another cultivator maybe who went there to help the situation in Wu Sheng.
Then he shouldn't be fighting him!
Yong Jie swung Qing quickly without any intention of hitting the man but the hood on his head revealing the man's face.
The moonlight shone on the man's handsome face. Yong Jie was dumbfounded and his heart raced to see the reason why he volunteered on that mission was standing in front of him.
"Not bad." Yao Xue said, breaking the silence.
Yong Jie was still in shock, blinking and rubbing his eyes several times just to confirm if he was really seeing Yao Xue.
"Yao Xue." He muttered and smiled as he threw himself to Yao Xue, hugging him tightly. "I missed you! Wahh!!"
Yao Xue jumped from the act and from too much contact but he knew he couldn't stop Yong Jie being him. Though, Yong Jie learned a lot from the previous years, he was still the same Yong Jie that Yao Xue meet two years ago, clingy and noisy, making Yao Xue stretch his lips into a small smile as he patted Yong Jie's head who refused to let go of him.
"Yao Xue, it's really you. It's your scent. I missed your scent. What should I do? I don't want to let go." Yong Jie said, still hugging him.
It was Yao Xue's second time getting hugged by someone and it was always been Yong Jie. He couldn't deny that he missed the man. It was hard not missing him and his crazy antics.
"Let go." Yao Xue said and Yong Jie shook his head, pouting like a kid and hugged him even tighter.
Yao Xue's scent smelt so good and Yong Jie really missed the man. He didn't have the intention of letting go at all. Yao Xue should drag Yong Jie with him wherever he goes from now on. He didn't want to be separated anymore.
Yao Xue felt silent and was cautious around the surroundings.
Yong Jie turned, loosening his grip of Yao Xue and scanned the area. They were in the next village, realizing that they went out of Deng Huo city while they were fighting.
The surrounding was dark and so quiet that a drop of a needle could be heard, even a low groan couldn't escape the quietness. The suspicious sound was coming under the trees.
Yong Jie let go of Yao Xue and they both land on the ground and walk to the trees.
They both looked at each other when they sensed demonic energy. They nodded as they sprint in the forest and saw a man convulsing on the ground eerily.
"He just shifted." Yao Xue said and looked around the area. "The source just left not too long."
Yong Jie draw Qing and ended the man's suffering from turning into a complete demon, stabbing his head and slicing it off the body. They couldn't save him anymore. Maybe they could if they detected him earlier.
"It's useless to chase it. Without living a scent to track down where it escaped, it'll be difficult." Yong Jie said and whisked Qing at the side, getting rid of the blood of a half turned demon and then wiped it with a handkerchief before sheathing it back.
Yao Xue looked down to the headless corpse and crouched down, scanning the body and saw a single line of a scratch mark or a craw mark on the nape.
The same with the other turned humans.
They all have the same mark in different locations but mostly were on the nape maybe because it was easier to graze the nape unnoticed.
Yao Xue turned the body. "Did you noticed a mark the same as this from the other villagers that turned into a demon?" Yao Xue asked and Yong Jie looked at the cut on the nape. It looked like a normal cut wound.
Yong Jie shook his head. "I didn't notice. I didn't have time to check their bodies. They kept on coming out everywhere we go."
"They thought the people were possessed but having the same mark tells that they were infected by only one demon." Yao Xue stood up.
"What demon?"
"A Guā. It can infect anything its claws can reach."
Yong Jie reaches Yao Xue's hand making Yao Xue stiffened. They were talking seriously a moment ago and Yong Jie was already pulling him out of the forest.
"Before going after that Gua, our bodies need to rest. I've been fighting zombies the whole day, I can't stand straight." Yong Jie complained.
Yao Xue frowned at the unfamiliar term that Yong Jie used but he didn't voice it out or asked. "Then go back and rest." Yao Xue said.
"Did young master Yao Xue checked in at the same inn we checked too?" Yong Jie asked. Maybe he could crash to Yao Xue's room instead of going back to that cramped room of five-person.
"No. We arrived here earlier and we still have a lot of inns to choose from." Yao Xue said and Yong Jie was determined to go and sleep with Yao Xue.
"Yao Xue! Please take me to your room and let me sleep with you!" Yong Jie begged and Yao Xue was surprised—no, he was shocked.
Yong Jie seeing Yao Xue's exaggerated reaction made him realized that he sounds like a pervert.
"Ahh! No! I didn't mean it that way, of course!" Yong Jie exclaimed. "I want to share your room. We arrived late and all the inns were occupied, only three rooms were available and we're all fifteen. We need to squeeze five asses in one room. I can't sleep with that kind of arrangement." Yong Jie said.
Yao Xue looked at Yong Jie and lead the way to the inn. Yao Xue got himself a suit. A huge room with a living area, wooden couch near the window, a huge screen dividing the living and the bed area.
Yong Jie moved the screen and revealed a queen-size bed.
"You use the bed. I'll use the lounge." Yao Xue said as he pulled the sword from his sash and carefully laid it on the couch where he was planning to sleep.
"Nope! We're going to sleep together in the bed. You paid for this room, you should be sleeping in the bed too." Yong Jie said.
"I'm good here." Yao Xue was about to sit when Yong Jie pulled him.
"I'm scared of the Gua, honestly. So, please sleep with me." Yong Jie said. "I mean, sleep beside me." He corrected.
Yao Xue just looked at Yong Jie and let himself be dragged by Yong Jie to the bed. He knew Yong Jie was using the Gua as an excuse. A very low excuse but he just couldn't keep his defenses towards Yong Jie. Guess it wasn't only Yong Jie who didn't change, also Yao Xue too.
