Another year has passed and nothing that much happened in Dashan or any big news around the world. Only a few low-level demons showing up and getting eliminated by roaming cultivators.
Yong Jie was confident enough with the skills that he learned and the knowledge from the original Yong Jie's memories. The old Yong Jie's memories were slowly playing in his mind bits by bits. It just suddenly unlocked on its own but nothing relating to Yong Jie's death which he was still figuring out.
A few days earlier, news came up from Wu Sheng. Wu Sheng town was big and known for its strict discipline of its people. People would talk slowly and quietly even when they're cursing or fighting that was why it was called the Silent town but one night, few people broke the deafening silence when their screams were heard.
A demon has appeared, infecting townsmen and everything went into chaos. People locked their doors and their hearts felt fear as they hear people screaming outside and demons trying to knock on their doors.
Cultivators were sent to Wu Sheng immediately to vanish the demons but like a plague, infected humans would just pop out of nowhere without stopping for days.
Yong Sect of Dashan decided to send few cultivators and Yong Jie was one of them. Well, he volunteered to go knowing that Wu Sheng was halfway towards Xueguo. Yong Jie had been meaning to visit Xueguo country and was planning to go after the Wu Sheng incident will be settled.
They traveled by horses and arrived in Wu Shen after a day and a half. Wu Sheng streets which were once filled with lively yet silent people were deserted. Many stalls were abandoned and every door they saw are closed
Just inhaling the air in the place was obvious enough that something fishy was happening. They kept walking, scanning the town. The silence was deafening that they could only hear their careful footsteps and the cold wind whooshing.
Yong Jie was alarmed when he felt the wind was getting warmer as they advanced and the atmosphere was getting heavier as they entered another village making them stop. Everybody could feel the weird change in the temperature and atmosphere.
They all turned around when they heard shuffling footsteps. A pair of footsteps at first then another set of footsteps then another. They were coming one after another after sensing them.
"They're coming. Don't get yourself infected. Everyone is expected to surpass the infected if one of us gets curse and don't hesitate to exterminate if matters become worst." Xie Li, one of Yong Sect's trusted guard and martial arts adviser and their father and leader of that mission, said.
They all agreed and went on their guards as the footsteps were approaching. A group of mutated people that just turned into demons run towards them like zombies.
It wasn't Yong Jie's first time seeing a human possessed with a demon but it was his first time seeing a lot of them running towards him and he needed to live. Of course, he was prepared to practice the skills that he learned through the years.
Yong Jie pulled Qing from its sheath and swung it to the nearest zombie. Yong Jie prefers calling these demon-possessed people as zombies. He was a modern man after all.
Blood spilled as he cut its torso effortlessly. Looking down to his first hunt, the upper half still moved, looking so disturbing as it started crawling with his hands while his intestines were sliding out of his body.
"Bloody hell." Yong Jie muttered.
The only way to seize them was to cut off the head. No difference than those modern movies of zombies. They're definitely zombies!
Yong Jie cut its head not wanting to see it crawling like a damaged ghost looking for its killer. Yong Jie proceeds on fighting with the zombies. They could no longer save the host's body and soul for they were completely possessed. Large numbers of zombies were coming at them wave after wave.
Seems like they were the whole town's people!
Nobody got injured since those zombies were only low-level demons. They were like puppets who ran around and bite everything that moves and something smells good which were humans. Dawn was getting nearer as they advanced from village after village until they reached Wu Sheng's city, Deng Huo or City of Lights.
Deng Huo was surrounded by strong gates preventing the zombies to enter outside and the perfect evacuation place of the near villages. Yong Jie felt glad to finally see live people walking in the streets full of lights but not all the candlewax lights were lighted afraid that they would attract the attention of zombies. But if Yong Jie were there before the zombies started running havoc in the country, Deng Huo City's streets were filled thousands of lights in every pathway like fireflies lighting the dark night.
People in that city had strong beliefs that the lights would drive away evil spirits during the night and it became a tradition then became a habit of the people to light their paths every night attracting people from different countries.
They first looked for an inn to stay and most inns or taverns were already full. Fortunately, the last inn they checked had three free rooms left. They were fifteen overall so five men were assigned in each room.
After dinner, everyone was exhausted that they went to sleep early while Yong Jie couldn't sleep. He wasn't used to sleeping in a cramped space.
He stood up, grabbing Qing with him and climbed the roof, looking at the shinning full moon. Sitting on the filed roof, he placed Qing down and leaned his back on the roof, closing his eyes. He felt his body relaxed and was ready to fall asleep when he felt all the hairs of his body stood up like a reflex when feeling someone else's strong presence.
Yong Jie immediately grabbed Qing and sat straight, observing the quiet surroundings and saw a black figure standing at a taller roof above where he was sitting. The man was wearing black robes, standing under the moonlight.
Upon seeing Yong Jie, the man turned and leaped away, hoping roofs after roofs soundlessly. Of course, Yong Jie just didn't watch the suspicious man run away.
He chased the man. Watching how he hopped on the roofs like a weightless wind in the night. His robes fluttering with the wind revealing that he was just wearing the black robes covering his long white robes.
