Chapter 20

Gabi’s P.O.V

  It has been a few weeks since I arrived here and I have never been happier or prouder. I watched as Carla destroyed that b***h that tried to harm her family and although I admit I was worried at first when they were fighting because it seemed like that b***h was getting all the hits in, but then Carla winked at me and I knew it was going to be fine. I had no idea how ruthless Carla had become or could be when she was fighting, but when her family was threatened she was a whole different person. She wasn’t just a warrior, she was a mother, a mate and a Luna fighter. Everyone cheered when that woman’s lifeless body hit the ground, but I could see it had taken a toll on Carla. I watched as Brandon took her inside the pack house and then returned to my own home, taking a few blood bags from the fridge, warming them up and then drinking from them. I had learned to live and feed off animals, even though they weren’t my favourite, but I wanted to go by the rules here and be accepted by their pack. I was currently sitting on my couch, watching some kind of weird movie that I couldn’t even remember the name of, but the guy in it was running and trying not to get killed. He had found out that he was a trained killer, which was just weird if you ask me, I mean how can you forget something like that? I was about to turn the movie off when there was a knock on my front door, which in itself was weird as no one ever came here. I wasn’t expecting anyone, so I got up to see who it was, when I suddenly smelled the most intoxicating smell of rosebuds and sunflowers.

  “No, he can't be here, but wait he didn’t smell like that, so it can't be him, can it? What the hell is going on?” I said out loud to myself, but I couldn’t control my steps as I walked to the front door. My hand was on the door knob, just inches away from turning it, but my fear was also coming to the surface. What happens when I open the door? Will he beat me for running away from the clan? Is he going to yell at me and call me names or put me down? My heart was racing a million miles an hour, terrified of how he was going to react when I opened the door.

  “Well, better get this over and done with.” I muttered to myself, taking a few more deep breaths. I turned the handle of the door, opened it and there he was. Alec, the new Alpha. I had to raise my head to look at him because of how tall he was, but wow, let me tell you, he was gorgeous. I moved out of the way so he could come inside and he walked in. I smelled his scent as he walked past me and was surprised that the smell was coming from him, but he was the new Alpha, not my mate. My mate was the old Alpha, Eric and he not only smelled different, he was also dead. I closed my eyes and shook my head as he walked into the living room, but I was still scared and didn’t want to look him in the eyes.

  “Would you like something to eat? I have either human food or a blood bag?” I asked, trying to be hospitable.

  “Gabi, please come and sit beside me. You don’t have to serve me, just come sit and chat for a bit.” Alpha Alec said and it was the first time I had heard his voice. Although his voice was like music to my ears, I was also a little shocked by what he said, but quickly recovered and slowly walked over to the couch to sit down. Alpha Alec came over and sat next to me on the couch, but then he shocked me again by gently taking my hand in his.

  “Gabi, firstly my name is Alec and I am the new Alpha of the clan. I am sorry for the physical pain I called you when I killed your mate, Eric, but I couldn’t stand by and watch what he was doing to the clan and the clan members. After I killed him I came to the Alpha’s house to speak to you and offer my apologies and as soon as I walked in your scent hit me, but by then you were already gone. I knew right away that you were my mate and I know exactly what Eric did to you. I am so sorry for everything he put you through, but I promise I am nothing like that douchebag and I never will be.” Alpha Alec said, shocking me into silence. I pulled my hand out of his, unsure of what was going on or what to say to everything he had just told me. I was right, he is my mate, but how can I be so sure that he won’t turn out just like Eric did? After all Eric started off sweet, kind and gentle, but in the end turned into a nasty piece of work.

  “Alpha Alec, I would like to thank you for coming, but the fact is you have no idea what that man did to me, Brandon and Carla only know some of it, but I also know that you would never believe me if I tell you what he did, so I will show you….” I said and stood up. Alpha Alec gave me a confused look as I took my shirt off and showed him what I was talking about.

  “Now do you see? Look at what he did. Do you want me to turn around so that you can see some more?” I asked, but instead of waiting for an answer I turned around and showed him my back.

  Alpha Alec’s P.O.V

  I was in absolute shock as I looked at her. She was right, I wouldn’t have believed someone would or could be so cruel to their mate and yet here she was showing me proof that Eric had been the cruelest mate to ever walk the earth. Her chest and back were covered in thick scars, where it looked like he had taken a silver knife dipped in vervain to slice her skin open. Gabi put her shirt back on and turned to face me, but she didn’t look me in the eye and she didn’t sit down next to me.

  “Not only did he cheat on me, he put me down every chance he got, he blamed me for things that didn’t go right, but he also tortured me. Now you tell me, do you still want to be with someone like me, scarred, abused and broken?” Gabi asked and I didn’t need to think twice about it or waste any time to even answer.

  “Yes Gabi, I still want to be with you. I knew he had beat you, but I had no idea of the extent it was to. I’m sorry I couldn’t end his life sooner for you.” I said, standing up so that I was in front of her and wrapped my arms around her. I felt her stiffen in my hold, but I never wanted her to leave me again.

  “You are safe now, Gabi. I’m here now and nothing like this will ever happen to you ever again. I promise.” I whispered into her ear and felt as she relaxed a little, but then she sighed, laying her head on my chest. 

  Gabi’s P.O.V

  I did feel safe, but is he really telling me the truth? Will I actually be safe with him? Eric said that and it was great until it wasn’t and after that my life was a living hell, that's what I am scared of, history repeating itself. I looked up from his chest and into his silver eyes, but all I could see was love and care in his eyes. Maybe I could give him a chance, give us a chance and see what happens. I wrapped my arms around his waist and held him closer, but the whole time my heart was racing again. I was scared and I knew that he felt it, but then he picked me up in his arms and carried me out of the living room and into my bedroom. He laid me down on the bed and then laid down next to me.

  “I promise I am not going to make you do anything you don’t want to do, Gabi. I have been on the road for a fair bit, so let's just get some rest and in the morning we can talk more, okay?” Alpha Alec said and I nodded. I laid my head on my pillow and felt as he moved closer to me, wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me closer.

  “By the way, please don’t call me Alpha, it's just Alec to you and it always will be.” Alec said, making me smile as I closed my eyes and we both drifted off to sleep.

  Unknown’s P.O.V

  So the fight is at their house in a few days, great, just perfect, that's when I will make my move. When she goes back to change into her regular clothes after the fight, that's when I’ll get her and she will fight for me. She will fight for me or I will kill her, I will have her daughter killed. My son has already been watching her very closely and it's now just a matter of time.
