Chapter 13

Gabi’s P.O.V

  I knew I would get to Carla’s earlier if I just compelled someone into giving me a lift and I was right, I thought as I turned and faced the driver. He was an unwilling participant, but thankfully he wouldn’t remember a single thing about our meeting and could continue on with his journey afterwards. We had been driving for a total of three days and I was getting more and more anxious to see Carla and how she was doing. Right before we got to the border of the territory I asked the driver to pull over, then made him face me.

  “Forget all about meeting me, you have never seen me, you have never been here and you will continue on your way to wherever it was you were driving to. You will have no memory of this at all.” I said, watching as his pupils dilated and let me know that the compulsion was working. I got out of the car and he shook his head before driving off. I hurried over to the iron gates and one of the guards that was standing there immediately opened the gate when he saw me.

  “Luna Carla is waiting for you.” The guard said and I quickly nodded before hurrying through the gates. The guard closed them behind me and pointed the way for me to get to the pack house. I thanked him before running off in the direction he had shown me. I ran as fast as I could, not once stopping until the pack house came into view and that's when I saw her. Carla was standing out front looking in my direction and it only spurred me to go faster, to get to her quicker. I ran right over to her, throwing my arms around her and hugging her tightly.

  “I’m so glad you're alright and actually here.” I said, letting go of her and smiling.

  “Gabi, I am so, so sorry, really I am. If I had known he was changing you instead of killing you I would have tried harder to get you, to save you. I am truly sorry.” Carla said, taking my hands in hers.

  “Oh hush woman, I don’t blame you at all, I never did. It’s not your fault and I will kill anyone who says otherwise. The only reason I am able to be here now is because I ran from my old mate and then he was killed, but with the new Alpha coming I really didn’t want to stick around to see what he was going to do.” I replied, smiling. I had never once blamed Carla for what happened to me, actually it meant a lot to me that even though she herself was in trouble too, she still thought about me and tried to help me.

  “Come on, let's get to the office. My mate and the Alpha of this pack, Brandon, is waiting for us.” Carla said and I nodded. Just looking at Carla I could see that she was loved and well taken care of, she looked healthy and had a glow of happiness around her, which in turn made me happy. We walked into the pack house and straight to an office where there were so many books on the shelves it would take me forever to read them. There was a huge beautiful marble desk with a huge flat screen computer, but there was nothing scattered about, in fact the desk was neatly organised, which surprised me. I looked up from the desk to see the handsome man sitting behind it and assumed that with the way he was looking at Carla it had to be her mate, Brandon.

  “Hello Gabi, it's nice to finally meet you. I have heard many things about you from my wife, mainly over the last few days. Right, I know you have only just arrived, but before you get settled in I would like to go over the rules with you. Number one, I know you are a vampire and need to feed, but there will be no feeding on my family or pack members at any time. Number two, everyone who lives on the territory has chores, even us, so you must help out too. Number three, if we are ever at war we all fight and although you don’t have to join us, I would hope that you would help out. Number four, we have a range of different species on this territory, but all mated wolves, vampires, werebears and werecats are off limits, we do not tolerate being unfaithful here. Well, I think that's it, do you agree with those rules?” Alpha Brandon asked and I nodded. Maybe if they had those rules at my old clan my relationship with my mate and the others would have been different.

  “Gabi, I’m sorry about Eric, I knew him and he was a right asshole, but I’m sorry you had to live with him and have him as a mate. Come on, we’ll show you to your cottage.” Alpha Brandon said and I nodded as he stood from behind his desk. We were just walking to the office door when suddenly a young woman walked in with a young man. She looked so much like Carla when she was that age, so it must have been her daughter and the young man must have been her mate with how he was holding her hand.

  “Mom, dad, we’re heading out to Kodi’s house, that way I can meet the pack and get to know everyone.” The young woman said and both Carla and Brandon nodded before hugging her.

  “Why is there a vampire in your office, dad?” The young woman asked, looking over at me, but all Carla did was chuckle.

  “Honey, it's okay. Leah, this is Gabi and she is my friend from a long time ago, Gabi, this is my daughter, Leah. she came here to visit, but she means no harm, honey.” Carla said, introducing us and the young woman I now knew as Leah nodded.

  “It's nice to meet you Gabi, maybe when I get back home we can get to know each other.” Leah said, shaking my hand and I nodded, smiling brightly at her. We walked Leah and the young man I knew as her mate, Kodi, out to the front of the pack house and watched them leave. After a few minutes we left to go to my cottage. We walked through a grassy trail where there were huge oak trees and fruit trees planted, making the whole area look even more beautiful. We walked a little more and then stopped outside a beautiful white cottage. I couldn’t believe it, it was just...just perfect. I had never been shown this amount of kindness and it caused me to get choked up a little.

  “Hey, what's wrong? Are you alright?” Carla asked, wrapping her arm around my shoulder and gently squeezing my arm.

  “Yes, I’m okay, it's just so beautiful and not at all what I expected. Thank you.” I replied, looking at the most beautiful cottage I had ever seen. There was a swinging seat on the porch, hanging plants coming from the roof and it was like it was right out of a book. We walked inside and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had furnished it for me. In the living room there was a nice camouflage couch and matching armchair, a flat screen TV was mounted on the wall and a rug was on the floor in front of the small fireplace, giving the room a warm feeling. We walked into the kitchen and it was perfect. The walls and countertops were a nice clean white, with a stove and marble sink to match and a refrigerator.  I opened the doors and looked inside to see that they had already stocked it with blood bags for me to drink. I shut the door and looked over at Brandon and Carla, who were standing in the doorway.

  “Alpha Brandon, Luna Carla, thank you, thank you so much for everything you have done and are doing for me.” I said and Carla walked over to me, hugging me.

  “Firstly, it's just Carla, never Luna, not to you. Secondly, we need to talk about the new Alpha of your clan. I think you should sit down with him and at least discuss things, let him know why you have left. You never know, he might surprise you.” Carla said, making me sigh. 

  “Alright, I’ll sit down and talk with Alpha Alec, but I’m not promising anything and that includes leaving with him to go back there, but I will talk to him and explain that.” I replied and she nodded, but then Brandon cleared his throat. 

  “Come here and sit with us, Gabi. You can tell us a little about your life and what you have been through since you last saw Carla, if you feel comfortable to do it that is.” Brandon said and I nodded.

  “Yes, I can do this, just give me a minute and I’ll tell you.” I replied, walking back into the living room and taking a seat. Why were they so focused on me speaking to the new Alpha? Why did they want to know about Eric? I asked myself, but my thoughts immediately went to Eric and the time we had together.
