Lucas spent the rest of the evening staring at the ceiling and listening to Lina’s steady breathing. He couldn't fathom how manipulative his mother was. He knew she was a strong woman, raising him alone in difficult times, but he never expected her to plot to break up his marriage so that she could have control of his life again. Disappointment and anger fueled his negative sentiments towards his mother as he thought about his conversation with Lina’s grandmother. The first rays of the sun signalled the beginning of the day.
