Alpha of the cursed pack

Ch 3

Alastair’s POV

“It is your mom and miss Claire” the moment those words left her mouth, I stood up immediately.

“Where are they?" There was urgency in my tone. I could feel my heartbeat accelerating as the worst possible scenario came to my mind.

“They are at the infirmary" Dr Chloe informs me. A second later, I was sprinting down the hallway followed by Trevon and Sera. I did not stop until I reach the clinic. The door banged at the wall at my push.

There lying on bed is my best friend Claire. Her eyes were closed. She was scratched and bloodied. I walked towards the bed and started at her.

“What happened to her?” my voice barely above whisper.

“She was brought after you left. Your dad Alpha Jeremy was the one who brought her here” she explained to me.

“Alpha Alastair” Dr Sophie greets me. I nod at her. My eyes still did not leave Claire.

“Right now, she is unconscious. We have cleaned her wounds and bandaged them. she will wake up once the shock wears off. We have sedated her so that she can get proper rest” Dr Sophie filled me in about Claire's health. I looked around and found mom nowhere in the room.

“Where is mom?” I inquired with a frown on my face.

“Alpha your mom" she stopped. This was the first time I saw Dr. Sophie hesitating to give information.

“What is it Dr Sophie?” I had a bad feeling about this. When she still remained silent, I snapped “what the hell happened?”

Dr Sophie jumped at my loud voice.

“Where is my mom?” I repeated with barely concealed anger.

“Alpha. she could not make it” I felt as if the floor beneath my feet just vanished. I stumbled a little before sera held me by my shoulder.

“Alastair” she whispers quietly. No words came out of my mouth. A cold and numb feeling settled inside me. I could not wrap my mind around the news.

“No, no. this can’t be happening” I mumbled incoherently.

“Alastair its going to be alright” Sera tried to comfort me. “Sera she…” tears rolled down my cheeks as I was not able to control my emotions. I broke down completely.

“Alastair, hold yourself together” Sera hugged me. After sometime, I calmed down. I looked around and found that only Sera was present in the room.

“I sent them out” she told me.

“Thanks” I mumbled. She lets out a sigh and made me look at her “We need to go. Your mom's body is in the living room” she informed me.

“Where is dad?” I inquired. My voice soft and steady.

“He is there with your mom. Will you be, okay?” she asked.

“Yeah” I gave her a nod.

“Very well, let’s go” I looked at Claire.

Sera saw me looking at Claire and said “I will ask one of the nurses to monitor her”.

“Thanks” I gave her a nod of appreciation. With sera around, I don’t need to voice out my thoughts. She can hear it and understand. She has the ability as the Fae. She is always good at understanding my emotions. She takes one look at my face and will know what I want. I am grateful to have her beside me. Both of us walked out of the infirmary and reached the living room. Many of the pack members were gathered around including my beta, Dr Sophie and her family. Then there were warriors and guards of the pack. Dad was sitting on one of the Chair. He looked aloof. Mom’s body was there right in the middle of the living room. She was still in her bloodied clothes which were torn here and there. There were scratch and bite marks on her face and arms.

My grnadparents were yet to arrive. I am sure Trevon must have informed them.

I walked up to my dad and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. My touch seemed to snap him out of his shock. He looked up at me. His eyes held no tears, they were completely blank. I was never close with my dad. Mom was the only one whom I connected with. Other than mom, there was Sera, Claire and Trevon.

“She is gone son. I am sorry I could not save her.”

“What happened dad?” I asked him.

“When we got out of the basement, some one attacked your mom. Claire jumped in order to save your mom but it was impossible as there were two of them who attacked”

"What about those men?" my voice was dark.

“They were hit by the curse and attacked your mom. I had no choice but to stab them. They are no more” he explained everything to me.

There was no point getting angry at those men knowing it is the curse that led them to attack mom and Claire. Dad’s action is justified knowing he tried to save mom and Claire.

“We will hold a proper funeral service for mom. Tomorrow early morning at eight o clock”

Turning to my beta Trevon, I said “See to it that everything is organized properly and communicate the news to the rest of the pack”

“Roger Alpha” he gave me a nod.

I left the room after that. Sera will take care of everything. I need sometime for myself.

Reaching my room, I entered inside and closed the door behind me. I cannot break down now. Being the Alpha of this cursed pack has not been easy. Every month losing pack members, seeing the suffering. It is getting tougher to hold everything inside. There is no cure. There are times when I just want to give up. But then I see the faces of those little children who does not deserve this. The families, teenagers to old members of the pack, everyone depends on me. They have trust in me to break this curse.

As I stared out of the window, I decided that I won’t give up so easily. I will keep fighting till my last breath. If my mom was alive today, she would have wanted me to fight. There is no way I will be choosing the cowards way out.

“Fighting it is” I mumbled to myself.

My mom and dad never had a good relation. I have always seen them fighting. Even though mom loved dad dearly, dad never loved mom whole heartedly. Because of the curse, werewolf’s are not able to find mates. So, all of us find love or marry someone who is compatible. All these years, this is what has been happening. The only reason for mom to stay with dad was that he was loyal to her. There are others who are cheating on their partners.

Dad has always been cold and strict. He only cared about his status and position. Now that the Alpha position is taken over by me, we always clash while making decisions. There are times when he opposes them, but knowing that I am the one holding the position of the Alpha. he lets me do my work my way.

When it was time for the meeting, I went downstairs. Everything was cleaned and back to how it was like before. I entered my office and sat down on the chair. Dialing Trevon’s number, I wait for him to pick up. As we have lost the power of mind link, we now use cellphone like the humans do.

So far over the years, werewolves have got used to the living arrangements.

“Yes Alpha?” he spoke on the other side.

“It is time for the meeting. Where are everybody?” I snapped at him.

There was silence on the other side before he spoke. “We are on our way, Alpha” he informed me. I ended the call right after.

“Getting so much angry is not good for you” Sera appeared in the room. I let out a sigh and looked at her "I can’t help it” I replied leaning back on my chair.

She came and stood beside my chair. Leaning on the table, she looked at me. “You, okay?” her voice held softness. A tone she only uses for me. Sera is known for her shrewdness and sarcastic tone.

“What do you think Sera?” I asked her.

“I am frustrated and angry. All these years, I tried to keep mom safe. Now that she is gone, I feel that I have lost huge part of my life"

“Life is not easy. Somewhere on the line, you will lose your closed ones. It won’t be easy at the start, slowly but steadily you will learn to adjust and live life without them” she said to me as she wiped the corner of my eyes.

I chocked back a sob and held my fist tightly to my mouth. Sera placed her hand on me.

“There will be times when you will get emotional. Let them out, keeping them battled inside will do no good” she whispered. I hugged, her my face pressed on to her stomach.

"Without mom nothing feels the same anymore" my voice came out muffled.

“It’s going to be okay. I am here” she whispered.

“So am I” I moved back to look at Trevon who just walked in the office. I smiled at him.

“Thanks, I appreciate it” he gave me a nod.

“I suggest you to get yourself together. the packs members will be here any time now.”

I wiped my eyes and ran my fingers through my hairs. Sera moved back and went to sit on one of the chairs.

“That’s better” Trevon gave me the nod. Few minutes later, our third in command and the gamma of this pack walked in.

“Alpha” he greeted me.

“Hello Nash” I nod at him.

“Where are the others?” I inquired as I leaned back on my chair.

“The guardians were back just now. They have their reports. The salutary is still busy in healing the injured. The scouts and omegas have taken a stroll around. They might be here any moment now” he informed me.

“Very well. We shall wait for them” I said.

A minute or so passed, the elders walked in. It was none other than mine and Trevon’s Grand Parents.

“Grandma, grandpa” I greet them and got up to hug them.

“How are you fairing son?” It was grandma who looked concerned as she stared at me.

I smiled at her “I am fine” I assured her.

“He is after all our grandson” grandpa pasts me on the back. I turned to see that Trevon had already greeted his grandparents.

“Charles, Amelia” I greet them.

“We are glad to see you handling the situation Alpha” Amelia spoke to me. I nod at her. She then turned to my grandparents.

“I must say Catherine and Dylan, your grandson is strong and fit to be our Alpha" I smile as my grandpa looked proud.

"Thanks, Amelia" grandma beamed at her.

“Please have a seat” Trevon showed them the seats, as we wait for the scouts and guardians to come with their reports. The scouts are mainly entitled to check the neighboring packs along with omegas to see if there are no members left in the woods who needs to be rescued. They also need to make sure that the damages should be look after.

As for the guardians, they visit the nearby packs and check for the number of the members that were attacked, those who died and the extent of their injuries. Alongside that, they also need to check and see if there are some kinds of changes and how the healing process is going on. It has been a whole day. So it will be easy to get access on the records.

“Alpha” Liam, the omega of this pack walks in along with the head of the scout, James.

“Liam, James” I nod at them. They took their seats.

Soon after The guardians of the pack walked in.

“Melissa, Tyler, we have been waiting for you” I said the moment they walked in.

“We apologies for the delay, Alpha” It was Tyler who spoke. I waved my hand at them to take the seats.

“That’s okay. What information have you got for us?” I inquired. Melissa passed me the file which had the whole report. I flipped through the pages as Tyler gave me the whole number.

“Alpha there was total of Three twenty five deaths including the children, adults and elders of the pack” He informed me.

“Go ahead” I nod at him a I passed the file to beta Trevon so that he could take a look.

“The most injured and suffering members are in the Dark Wood Pack” he informs me.

“What about the Alpha?” I asked him as I leaned back on my chair.

“Alpha Jasper as usual left the pack to fend for themselves. He is not fit to be the Leader” Melissa fumed angrily. I can understand why she is so angry. Alpha Jasper is our enemy.

His pack members came to attack our members when the curse hit everyone. It was their plan to attack our pack so that their pack members will be saved. I found out later on. When I went to confront him, he had said it straight to my face that he did not feel any guilt or regret. His reason being that as the curse was on us because of my ancestors, he said it is only fair our pack members die rather then his. He said that it was his strategy.

I had left from there knowing I could not put any sense into him. The worst happened when her tried to convince the other packs to do the same. Due to which we lost many pack members. After the attack, I challenged the Alpha's for a fight. In that fight, it was decided that if I win, they won’t attack my pack. Hence the result was cleared as I won and got the safety of my pack.

But the relation between me and the Dark Wood Pack was never same. I treated them as our enemy. Now we only keep alliance for the namesake and so do they. In that fight, I showed them without the powers of werewolf, I was still the strongest Alpha.

“What do you think , Alpha?” I come out of my thoughts when I felt a tap on my shoulder.

"Alpha, Tyler is saying that we should juts leave the pck to fend for themselves" Trevn filled me on the things i missed.

“Send our salutary to the pack. We cannot their Alpha is not on good terms with me” I said to Tyler.

“Okay Alpha, I will tell salutary Mia to visit there” he said to me. I gave a nod to him as he sat down with his wife melissa. Yes, they are married. Then I turned to Liam and James.

“What have you got Liam?” I asked him.

Liam passed me the file “Alpha, we had a total number of forty-one members injured on the pack lands. These members belong to the Dark Wood Pack and Moonlight pack,” he said to me.

“What did you find, James?” I looked at the head of the scout group. He is responsible for the rogues and to know any new things happening in the neighboring packs.

“Alpha, a total of fifteen rogues were injured. Out of which four members succumed to their injuries.” he informed me. I listened as he continues.

“The rogues are being attended and looked after at our hospital wing as we speak right now.”

“Good. Make sure they don’t leave the pack grounds until I have a word with them” I instructed him.

“Alright Alpha. I will see to it right away” he said to me.

“Any news on the packs?” I inquired as he passed me the whole report. Trevon took it for me.

“I heard that Alpha Jasper is going to invite other packs so that they can find partners to get married with. They are trying to build an alliance. They are also forcing the other to get married even if they are already married..” James informed a ridiculous news. Something which we can only expect from Alpha Jasper.

“That’s Absurd. He cannot force anyone” It was grandma who fumed angrily at the news. I watched as no one was happy with the news. Even though we cannot find our mates, we are not entitled to force them to get married just for the sake of an alliance.

“I believe Jasper is finding another female partner to get married with” I stated.

“You got that right, Alpha” James gave me a nod.

“But he is already married” Grandpa pointed out.

“That is not stopping him, grandpa” I muttered.

“This is ridiculous” Sera muttered. We always believed in being loyal to our partners no matter what.

That is also one of the reasons why I never married. Even though I like Claire, I can never commit to her. I want to break the curse and find my real mate. I never really committed to Claire. The pack members assumed us as a couple and we did not deny it.

“I know” I muttered as everyone sat down quietly.

“Alpha, I heard that Alpha Jasper is going to invite the pack Alpha's next week” Liam informed me. I was silent. I did not like it one bit.

“Are you going to accept the invitation, Alpha?” It was melissa who asked me with a curious look on her face. I shrugged my shoulder in response.

“I believe you should go and check what he is up to” I heard Trevon's grandma, Amelia suggesting.

“We need to know what he is upto. Because Alpha Jasper is our immediate enemy. As the saying goes, keep your friends closer, but enemies close” she said to me

“I agree with Amelia, son" grandpa said to me.

“As your elders, it is our mutual decision that you should go and attend it. If need be, make sure he does not succeed" she said with a devious look on her face. I smirked at her.

“Alright then its decided. I will accept the invitation" I agreed with the elders decision.

“I will tag along as well" Sera joined in on the conversation.

"Okay then I, Sera and Trevon will visit the pack" I muttered.

“Is Dr Sophie and salutary Mia joining us?" I inquired to Liam.

“Alpha they are still attending the injured members. Dr Sophie said that she will give the report in the evening" he informed me.

“Alright" I nod at him.

“The meeting is over. You guys may leave" I dismiss the meeting and excused myself.
