Nicole’s POV
I ran to the window and called after the woman I was a hundred percent certain was Alisha. “Alisha!”
She turned around and met my eyes briefly. I thought she would stop, but she hastened up and walked even faster.
I made to run out the door to chase after her, but Jake’s strong arm gripped me. “I don’t think you want to run out there chasing a strange woman. Things work differently on this side of the world,” he lowered his voice as though he did not want the rest of the men in the shop to hear him, “you could disappear and never be found again.”
I yanked my arm free. “It is not a strange woman, it is Alisha. She is… was my friend.”
“If she did not stop when you called, then maybe she did not want to talk, at least not here,” he suggested.
