Chapter One
Pack Black Briar stood to the south of the Northern Territory and was under the control of Alpha Brennen Thorne and his Luna, Rosalyn. They had a pair of twin sons that were due to take the reins of the pack and command it jointly, the second they reached their twenty first birthday.
It was no secret that every wolf dreamed of claiming their own fated mate, having a mate selected by the Moon Goddess herself, was the ultimate dream. Sure, there were some that had given up on the idea of a fated mate and took a chosen one instead, and while some found some relative comfort in that, others found themselves miserable, especially if one of them discovered a fated mate later on.
Alpha Brennen had run his pack along side his best friend, Jordon. Beta Jordon only had one daughter with his fated mate, Layla. Their daughter, Addison had been raised without her mother for most of her life. When Addison had only been about ten, they were invaded by a rival pack, and Layla had given her life to save their child. Jordon shouldered the agony of losing his mate to survive for their daughter.
Addison was soon to be eighteen, and the Alpha family was mostly excited to see the wolf their beloved Beta’s daughter, would be granted. The irony of the Alpha family Twins being named Kaine and Abel, had been part of an ongoing joke for sometime. It was a well known fact that identical twins were almost guaranteed to share a single mate. There were only a few outcomes for when they met their mate. They would either share them, otherwise, many joked that Kaine would hand to kill Abel for ownership rights. The twins were wary about taking a mate, for fear that one of them would be rejected. The idea of being shared did not appeal to everyone.
The Twins had been actively looking for their true mate for three years. The only conclusion that they could draw, was that she had to be younger than them, and had yet to have the scent affiliated with her beastly counterpart.
“In a way, having your birthday the day after Christmas, is funny. Because it’s like, a present from the Goddess the night you get your wolf.” Abel joked towards Addison as she was getting ready to head out. She and her father, had both resided in the Packhouse full time, since the death of her mother. Addison was the spitting image of her mother, hazel eyes, light skin, a curvy yet athletic figure. Her hair was originally blonde but she had taken to dying in blue streaks for fun. She always kept her long hair braided down her back.
She was dressed in a plain T-shirt and a pair of skinny jeans and was in the process of tying her shoes, when Abel began talking to her. “So one could look at it like a joint gift from the goddess and Santa? Wow, aren’t I lucky?” She joked.
“That being said, I know you aren’t going to school. It’s winter break for you, so what’s got you out in such a hurry?”
“Well, it’s Christmas Eve, and I have some last minute shopping to do.”
Abel slicked back his sandy hair and stared at her with those mischievous green eyes of his. He was captivating, but she would not give in to whatever he was aiming at.
“Shopping for me and Kaine? Care to give me a hint?” He was worse than a child! Addison thought to herself. The twins couldn’t stand surprises, which was why she always waited until the last possible moment to buy for them.
“Don’t you both have a girlfriend or two to buy for you?”
“Don’t worry about them, you know you’ll always be my favorite girl in the whole pack!” Abel whispered closer to her and Addison laughed and planted her hand over his face to push him back. “Stop it. I really have to go. You have a date with Ronda tonight anyway. I think she’s a b***h, but she’s in love with you, so go be a good boyfriend.”
“You’re so mean!” It was the last thing she heard, as she walked out of the door. Addison made her way to the mall and finished up her shopping. She noticed that the Twins really liked the imported chocolates she got them last year. She picked up some more of those and each some gift cards for the restaurants they liked. She had already made their true gifts. The winter months got cold, especially when their town was hit with snow. She had made them each a knitted hat in their favorite color to wear.
Ronda and Roxie were the girlfriends of the Twins and had hated her from the very beginning. Addison lived in the pack house, and saw them every day. She had a close relationship with the celebrity pair. Everyone wanted a piece of the Thorne twins, and Addison existing near them was a crime in itself. She had been tormented in school relentlessly for the crime of being so casually friendly to them. Especially where Ronda and Roxie were involved. She was very lucky that it was now her senior year, and those girls had graduated the year before. Unfortunately, they weren’t the only ones.
Kaine and Abel had been secretly digging through Addison’s room. Abel had been sent out to distract her, in case she was going to return to her bedroom before she left. “Have you noticed that her scent has changed a little lately? It has become slightly sweeter. Not important. Check her sizes, and whatever clues you can find. We have to outdo her old man and those friends of hers. We have to get her the best stuff and you know how she hates the idea of birthmas. We’re going all out!”
“Christmas is settled. Gamma Jackson is bringing the car first thing in the morning.” Kaine said, responding to his brother.
“Ronda will be pissed if she finds out you bought Addie anything. She’s so jealous. She doesn’t get that Addie is like our little sister.” Abel said dejectedly.
“Car for Christmas and let’s head out and get her a new coat and boots for her birthday. This one is not gonna cut it, and those boots of hers have holes.”
“Agreed.” They both said in unison.
