Regina spent the whole afternoon watching over Fabian while studying his schedules on the iPad given to her by Auntie Davie. The schedules included the timing for Fabian's medication, therapy appointments, and more. She memorized some of the details to avoid making any mistakes.
Throughout the day, as she kept an eye on Fabian, it seemed like he was exhausted from constantly snapping at her. When he wasn't lying on the bed, he sat in his wheelchair with a blank stare. He would sigh and groan from time to time.
There was one instance when Regina noticed a tear rolling down his cheek. But before she could even try to wipe it away, Fabian quickly wiped it himself.
She silently observed him. Perhaps he didn't even realize she was there because he hadn't said a single word to chase her away.
As evening fell, it was time for Fabian's dinner. He was still asleep, so Regina quietly left the room and went to the kitchen to get his food.
He still needed to take his medication. She made sure not to make any mistakes this time, unlike earlier in the day.
"Don't forget Sir Fabian's medication, Regina," Auntie Davie reminded her.
She nodded. "Yes, Auntie. Thank you so much..." she replied with a smile before heading back upstairs.
Since she had a tray of food with her, she preferred to use the elevator to go up to the third floor. She was worried that she might accidentally spill something, especially since she could be a bit clumsy at times. She didn't want to make a mistake for the second time on her first day of work.
Upon reaching the third floor, she knocked on the door before entering, knowing that Fabian was still asleep. She placed the tray on the table and slowly approached him to wake him up. But before doing so, she couldn't help but gaze at Fabian.
"You're so handsome," she whispered, making sure only she could hear it. His sleeping face was captivating, and his long lashes were attention-grabbing. His slightly parted lips added to his appeal.
It was just unfortunate that his pleasant appearance contradicted his behavior. According to Bettina, ever since the accident and the loss of his parents, Fabian had become like this. The cheerful Sir Fabian had disappeared, replaced by someone who constantly snapped at the mansion's staff. That's not how Fabian used to be.
Regina understood why Fabian had become this way. She, too, had lost her parents, and she knew how difficult it was. It was painful and felt like something was missing from your soul.
It wasn't easy to go through such an accident, especially when his parents didn't survive.
For Regina, it was like a nightmare.
She sighed. She wouldn't give up on her job now. She knew where Fabian's current behavior was coming from.
"M-Mom, D-Dad..."
From looking at Fabian, Regina furrowed her brow and stood up straight when she noticed him tossing and turning with a sweaty forehead.
"Mom, Dad, take me with you. I'm sorry. Please. I'm sorry. Take me with you. I don't want to live anymore," Fabian murmured in his sleep, his eyes still shut.
"Sir Fabian?" Regina exclaimed in confusion and gently tapped both of his cheeks. "Sir, wake up! You're having a nightmare! Sir!" she said to him urgently.
Fabian finally opened his eyes, gasping for breath as he sat up from the bed.
"Sir, are you okay?" she asked with a concerned voice and quickly handed him a glass of water. "Sir, please drink this--"
"Get out! Don't you understand? I don't want anyone else coming in here!" he snapped forcefully and knocked the glass away, causing it to spill on his pajamas and the bed cover.
Regina was taken aback and blinked her eyes rapidly. She felt fear in her heart, but she forced herself to ignore it.
"I-I'm sorry, Sir. I'll quickly get you a change of clothes and replace the bed cover," she said, hastily placing the water glass on the bedside table.
She was about to go to the cabinet when Fabian suddenly shouted again, throwing the pillow onto the carpeted floor.
"I said get the f**k out! I don't want anyone here! Leave!" he yelled in anger.
Regina flinched in fear once again. Fabian was completely different from earlier. His eyes were filled with tears, tainted with anger.
"B-But, Sir. I can't leave you here..." she softly pleaded despite the fear she felt.
"Leave! Get out!" But it seemed like Fabian didn't hear anything. He got off the bed and walked towards the bedside table, knocking the glass over in the process.
"Sir, please. Calm down," she said as she approached him. She tried to hold his arm, but he pushed her away.
It was too strong, causing Regina to stumble and fall onto the carpeted floor. Just then, the door opened and Auntie Davie walked in.
"What's happening here? Regina?" Auntie Davie rushed over, trying to help her stand up.
"Auntie, Sir Fabian suddenly had a breakdown. I think he dreamt about his parents," she whispered to Auntie Davie.
"Alright. I'll take care of this. Go to your room for now," she said before approaching Fabian, who was now sitting at the foot of the bed, gripping his hair and crying.
But instead of following Auntie Davie's instructions, she didn't do as she was told. Instead, she observed how Auntie Davie tried to calm Fabian down.
"Sir Fabian..." she heard Auntie Davie say in a gentle voice.
"Why are you here? Leave me! After all, my parents already left me!" Fabian exclaimed, his voice still filled with anger.
"Fabian, how many times do I have to tell you that it's not your fault that your parents are gone? It was an accident, Son..."
Regina watched Fabian closely. "We wouldn't be in an accident if I didn't insist on driving while drunk! It's all my fault!" Fabian shouted in anger, his voice still loud. He sobbed as he continued to grip his hair.
"Fabian, it's not your fault. No one is to blame. That's enough," Auntie Davie said, trying to calm him down. She allowed him to shout and scream. Until he finally stopped, perhaps from exhaustion.
"I just want to die now, Auntie. I want to die too. I don't want to be miserable anymore," Fabian whispered.
Regina couldn't help but avert her gaze. She understood Fabian because she felt the same way when she lost her parents. She also wanted to die in those moments, but she thought of her siblings. So she mustered the strength to get up and keep going.
That's why Regina felt a sense of wanting to help Fabian in what he was going through. She made a mental note that no matter how difficult her job was, she wouldn't give up on him.
Eventually, Fabian calmed down after a few minutes. He stood up on his own from the carpeted floor and slowly made his way to the bed.
Regina was about to approach Fabian, but Auntie Davie motioned for her to stay back.
So she remained in her spot, watching as Fabian lay down on the bed, covering himself with the blanket and closing his eyes. She observed his movements, making sure to give him some space.
"Let's leave him for now, Regina," Auntie Davie said to her.
But Regina shook her head. "I'll stay here, Auntie. I'll keep an eye on Sir Fabian..." Besides, he still hadn't eaten, and she was worried that something might happen to him again.
She decided to sit in a corner where she wouldn't be noticed, but she could still observe Fabian. She would calm him down before feeding him and giving him his medication.
Auntie Davie nodded at her. "Thank you, Regina," she said with a restrained smile before leaving the room. Her eyes showing a tinge of sadness. Regina knew that Auntie Davie treated Fabian like her own child. That's why she might be saddened by what was happening.
Meanwhile, Regina remained standing, watching Fabian's back. She sighed and slowly approached him.
"I know you're not okay, Sir. You've reached a point in your life where you just want it to end. But I hope that you'll eventually reach a point where you'll be okay. And I know you can," she whispered and then made her way to the sofa, where she sat down.
