"Get the f**k out of here!"
Just as Regina entered the front door, a booming baritone voice filled with anger echoed from upstairs, greeting her as soon as she stepped into the mansion. The next thing she saw was the distraught housemaids descending the stairs. They were sweaty and pale, seemingly unsure of what to do.
She looked at Auntie Davie, the head housekeeper who had recommended Regina for her current job as a personal assistant to a blind billionaire who owned this massive mansion.
Two maids approached Auntie Davie, crying and shaking their heads.
"Auntie, we really can't handle Sir anymore. P-please find someone else to take care of him," one of them said tearfully while squeezing Auntie Davie's hand.
The other maid nodded in agreement. "Just assign us to someone else. Just not Sir Fabian," she added.
Regina heard Auntie Davie hesitating. "Alright, go back to the kitchen..."
"Thank you so much, Auntie!" The two maids quickly complied, grateful for Auntie Davie's understanding.
After they left, Auntie Davie turned to face Regina, offering a restrained smile. It seemed that she already knew what she was going to say, as Auntie Davie had informed Regina about the type of person she would be serving even before hiring her for the position.
The young man she would be serving was blind and often grumpy, hot-tempered, and easily irritated.
He had reportedly been in an accident with his parents, and he was the sole survivor. The young man had limited mobility and was visually impaired.
Regina understood his situation, which is why she immediately accepted the job. Besides having worked various jobs before, the salary was also substantial. Although San Mateo was far from her two siblings whom she left in Los Angeles, it was still for their sake.
Regina was an orphan, and her two siblings were the only family she had left. Their parents had passed away several years ago, so she was now the one supporting her two younger siblings. At the age of twenty-five, she had not yet finished her studies as her priority was taking care of her siblings. She planned to focus on herself once she had seen her siblings through their education.
"You heard Sir Fabian shouting from upstairs. I've already told you about what he's been through, and that's why he is the way he is, right?" Auntie Davie whispered to her, her voice was soft.
Regina nodded. "Yes, Auntie Davie. And I understand."
Auntie Davie reached out and squeezed her hand. "I know you can handle this job, Regina. You're the only one I can see lasting with Sir Fabian's temperament. That's why I didn't hesitate to hire you as his personal assistant."
"Thank you, Auntie. You know me well, don't you? I'm a fighter, and I don't back down from challenges. Whatever kind of job it may be, as long as it pays well and is honorable, I'm ready to endure it, for the sake of my siblings," Regina replied with determination.
She was thankful that Auntie Davie offered her this job. They had known each other for a long time, since Auntie Davie was a friend of her late mother, and she had often asked if Auntie Davie knew of any job opportunities. However, the answer had always been no, until yesterday when Auntie Davie called and informed her about this job offer.
Coincidentally, she had recently finished her contract as a cashier at a grocery store, so she readily accepted the offer. From Los Angeles, she immediately traveled to San Mateo to start working, leaving her two siblings behind in Los Angeles. She wasn't worried about leaving them behind, since they were already grown-ups and capable of making mature decisions. Edward, who was twenty years old, and Rick, the eighteen-year-old youngest sibling, were already responsible individuals.
"Thank you so much, Regina. If you stay here for a few months, your salary will increase..."
Regina smiled upon hearing Auntie Davie's words. The offer was already high, but she didn't expect it to go even higher. She would make sure to cherish this job now and not waste the opportunity.
"Thank you, Auntie. You can count on me."
"All right, let's go upstairs and introduce you to Sir Fabian."
Regina nodded. She quickly complied and followed the elderly woman up the stairs. As they walked, she couldn't help but marvel at the appearance of the mansion. The windows were all made of glass, and there were large chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.
Compared to their small house, the living room she had seen earlier was three times its size. It made her acutely aware of her own poverty.
From the second floor, they entered a room. She thought it would be the room of the young man she would be serving, but she was surprised to find it empty, with the bed unoccupied. There weren't many belongings there except for a cabinet she noticed.
"Leave your belongings here, Regina..."
"H-Huh? Why, Auntie?" she asked in surprise.
"This will be your room while you're here in the mansion," Auntie Davie explained.
She furrowed her brow in confusion. "But why, Auntie Davie? It seems like the room is quite large for me. It almost looks like a guest room. Don't they have separate rooms here for the helpers?" she questioned.
The size of the room was also dizzying. It resembled a hotel room with its vastness and furnishings. There was a large bed in the middle, and she even spotted a balcony.
"Of course, aside from the helper's quarters, there is a separate room for the personal assistant. And this will be your room so that you'll be closer to Sir Fabian. In case he needs you, you can reach him quickly," Auntie Davie explained.
Regina nodded, albeit still unconvinced. It seemed too luxurious for her. It felt more like a vacation rather than a place of work, with the size of her room.
"Alright, Auntie. But are you sure it won't affect my salary if I stay in such a room?" she hesitantly asked. She felt like she would be at a disadvantage if that were the case. It would be a waste of her time and effort if that were to happen.
Auntie Davie chuckled softly. "Trust me, Regina. That won't happen."
"O-okay, Auntie."
"All right, leave your belongings here for now. You can organize them in the cabinet later. Let's go to Sir Fabian's room, and I'll introduce you," Auntie Davie instructed.
Regina nodded, leaving her belongings in the room. They headed out to Sir Fabian's room once she had placed her items inside the room.
Afterward, they ascended the stairs and reached the third floor, where only a single door greeted them.
They approached the door, and Auntie Davie turned to face her. "This entire floor is solely Sir Fabian's room. No one else is allowed to come up here except for me and his personal assistant."
Regina couldn't help but gulp at what she heard. She couldn't help but marvel at the enormity of her room in the mansion. What could it possibly look like when it covered an entire floor? It must be incredibly vast.
Aside from that, Regina also noticed an elevator on the side. It meant that there were several more floors to the mansion.
"Are you ready to meet Sir Fabian?" Auntie Davie asked her.
Regina nodded, her anticipation building for her new job. She was the type of person who thrived on challenges. With the many jobs she had taken on, she felt even more motivated when the work was challenging. She pushed herself harder and proved to herself that she could handle anything.
After responding to Auntie Davie, the latter knocked on the door. Before they could hear any response from inside, the elderly woman turned the doorknob, opening the door.
"Sir--"
"I said get the f**k out of here!"
Regina nearly jumped in shock at the words that greeted them. She looked at Auntie Davie, and contrary to the reaction of the two helpers earlier, she couldn't detect any fear on Auntie Davie's face. She just had a serious expression as she walked in, so despite the darkness inside, Regina followed her.
Moments later, Regina felt Auntie Davie press something, and she noticed that it was a switch as the room suddenly lit up.
The first thing Regina noticed was the dark curtain hanging in front of the window. It was closed. The bed was also in disarray, with pillows scattered on the carpeted floor.
"Sir Fabian, I have someone with me now. This is Regina, your new personal assistant," Auntie Davie said.
"I don't give a damn! Get everyone out of here because I don't need help from anyone!" Fabian shouted in anger. His voice carried intense force. It was evident that he was furious.
Regina searched for the source of the voice and saw that it came from the corner of the room, near another window. She also noticed that the man was seated in a wheelchair. She knew it was wrong, but she couldn't help but be amazed by the appearance of her future boss.
His blue eyes stared into nothingness, and there was a scar on his forehead that traveled downward to his eyebrow, likely a result of the accident three weeks ago. However, it didn't diminish his inherent strength.
The blind billionaire in front of her was incredibly handsome!
Aside from his piercing blue eyes that seemed devoid of emotion, he had a sharp nose, thin red lips, and a strong jawline.
Regina's gaze trailed down his body, noticing that he was shirtless, revealing the muscles in his arms and abdominal area.
She swallowed. Yes, she knew she came here for work, but she wasn't a saint to not feel a sense of admiration for someone like Fabian Iglesias.
Regina, being a woman, also knew how to appreciate the beauty in front of her. And she admitted, she couldn't help but feel a flutter of excitement as she looked at the man.
Yes, Regina had liked people before. She had crushes back when she was still in school. But they paled in comparison to the man sitting in the wheelchair before her.
Shit! Regina! Control yourself! You're here to work, not to flirt.
She shook her head, trying to dismiss the thoughts running through her mind.
"But you need someone to take care of you, Sir..." she heard Auntie firmly say to Fabian.
She saw his jaw tighten and frustration running through his hair. "Just leave! I don't need help from anyone!" he said in a cold voice before closing his eyes.
Regina and Auntie Davie exchanged glances. Auntie Davie gave her a subtle nod.
"I'll go back downstairs, Regina. But you stay here. Take care of Sir Fabian. And someone will call you when his meal is ready..." Auntie whispered softly to her.
She nodded in response. "Okay, Auntie."
"I trust you to handle this." With that, Auntie Davie left the room.
Meanwhile, Regina was left alone in the room, staring at the man. He still had his eyes closed, with two fingers resting on his temple.
She couldn't help but worry.
"Is something bothering you, Sir?" she asked, about to step closer to him. However, she froze when Fabian abruptly opened his blue eyes.
And for some inexplicable reason, it felt like their gazes met. But Regina knew it was impossible, since Fabian was blind.
"What the f**k! I said I don't need help from anyone! Get the f**k out of here! Leave my room or I'll make your life miserable!" he shouted at her, making Regina jump in surprise.
His voice was so much louder compared to when Auntie was there earlier, as if he had been holding back. Now, it reverberated throughout the entire room.
Regina knew that Fabian was blind, and he couldn't do anything if she stayed in his room. She also knew he couldn't make her life miserable as he had threatened, considering his blindness.
But when she saw the anger etched in his eyes, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of apprehension.
It was her first day on the job as a personal assistant, but she wouldn't give up no matter what. Even if he threatened her with all sorts of things.
Because she needed this job for the sake of her siblings.
