Chapter 9: Not a Charming Prince

Zoe's POV

I groaned when I felt my back throbbing. I slowly opened my eyes after I smelled the scent of alcohol. A white ceiling greeted me, so I quickly closed my eyes when I felt my eyes throb after I saw the lights.

“Hey, Zoe!” I moaned in pain when I heard a man's voice. His voice was like music in my ears, thumping my heart too fast.

“Alpha Axel, call the doctor! She needs to get rechecked.” I heard a woman's voice; my wolf began to whimper when she listened to a feminine tone. A wolf who has Alpha blood is more possessive than another wolf.

“Shut up, Savannah. Will you stop panicking? You're not helping me!”

“Oh, I'm sorry. I felt excited that your mate was awake. It would help if you didn't get worried about her again. It's my first time how worried you are.” My wolf stopped the jealousy when she heard that Alpha Axel mentioned Savannah. So it's Savannah; I can't believe how my wolf reacted toward another woman around our mate.

“You don't need to blame yourself. She decides to get the arrow for you.” Savannah added. What does she mean? Does Alpha Axel blame himself that I was here in the pack hospital? He doesn't need to because even though he wasn't the one who would get due, I would save someone freely.

“Savannah, stop teasing our Alpha. He might choke you!” I wanted to laugh when I heard Jake's words. He might still be mad at Alpha Axel after he strangled him.

“Jake, are you still mad at me? I thought–”

“Oh, did you believe that I am still angry with you? I'm such a great actor.” I moaned again when I had a headache. I hoped they would stop making noise because it was not helping me. I want to sleep, but they are all here.

“Shut up, Jake! Zoe might be awake because of you.” Savannah did something to Jake, which made Jake groan in pain.

“It's not my fault. Why are you blaming me? You're the one who's talkative here. You should leave! Zoe might be awake because of you!” Jake didn't want to be lost. Savannah gasped, and I felt her beside me.

“We don't need your presence here, Jake. Aside from that, Zoe might need me. That's why I'm here."

“She won't need you, Savannah. Have you forgotten that she won over you? I wished that I saw you losing to someone else.” Jake screamed when Savannah did something nasty to him again.

“Would you two please leave us alone here? You kept acting like a child, damn it!” Alpha Axel frustratedly screamed. I slowly opened my eyes, and his reddened face greeted me. He was glaring at his siblings, and when I checked what Savannah and Jake were doing, I almost laughed, but I winced in pain.

“Zoe! Are you alright?” Jake immediately rushed towards me. Alpha Axel groaned and tried to push him away from me.

“I-I'm alright, Jake. But my back keeps throbbing. I wanted to sleep, but it was too noisy.” I couldn't stop myself from complaining. They're in the hospital, and they're too loud.

Jake and Savannah stared at each other. Savannah pointed her finger at him.

“It's his fault. It was Jake who kept talking here. He's too loud!”

“Hey! I can't believe that you blamed me. You're such a liar, Savannah! You're the one who couldn't control your mouth!”

“What did you say? Did you not like to live?” Savannah's eyes glowed red.

“Will you all please stop? I want to have a rest!” I shouted in irritation. I'm the patient here, and they kept disturbing my peace. “Please, Jake, call the doctor. I want to talk to the doctor immediately!”

“It's a man! What do you want to talk about? I can talk to him if you wish.” Alpha Axel moved closer to her. My eyes widened in surprise when he patted my forehead. “You don't have a fever; you don't need to talk to the doctor.” He stubbornly stated. I smacked his hand, and he frowned.

“I want to talk to the doctor! Please don't make me repeat my words, Alpha Axel.” I gritted my teeth when I felt that my back was throbbing. I moaned in pain, so I pushed his hand.

“I need to go to the doctor. She's bleeding.” Jake worriedly informed his dumb brother. Yeah, it's bleeding, and I can't believe an Alpha didn't notice it.

“W-What? I thought she was alright. Why does your wound keep bleeding?” I whimpered when he turned me and checked my back. Ah- I want to kick his balls.

Jake shook his head in disappointment at how Alpha Axel acted. He went to the room, and when he returned, he was with the doctor.

“Luna, you're awake. You have the best healing ability. Thanks to your wolf and your mate.” The doctor went to me, and I rolled my eyes when Alpha Axel moved closer to the doctor, too.

“Please, kick them out of my room. I want to sleep, but they're too noisy.” The doctor stopped. He took a gauze and seriously put it on my wound.

“Oh, does it mean you woke up because of them? Luna, I don't want to do that; he's the Alpha of this pack.” Alpha Axel smirked. He touched the half mask on his face.

“As a pack doctor, you must ensure that I rest well here in the hospital. It's a great disappointment that a pack doctor was too scared of their Alpha. He may be the Alpha of this pack, but you're the doctor here in this hospital.”

“I don't want to repeat my words, but if you didn't let me have my peace, I would complain to Harvey, and I'm sure he could handle his children,” I added. I moved and glared at the doctor. He gulped.

“As my doctor, my safety and healing improvement was the ones you need to think about. Alpha Axel isn't an Alpha if he's here in the hospital.” I gently laid down on the bed when the doctor sighed in defeat at me.

“Hey, don't tell me that you will obey her. We're just worried about her!” Savannah reasoned, but I closed my eyes. When I opened my eyes, I almost gasped as I saw Alpha Axel was watching me like a hawk.

“I'm sorry, Savannah. But my patient is correct. She's the main priority here, and I want you all to leave her room.” The doctor severely told them. Jake's mouth hung open when the doctor decided to obey me.

“What? I can't believe that you choose to obey her. What will happen if she escapes from our pack? Are you willing to sacrifice your life once she successfully escapes?” Savannah asked. She glared at the doctor, who was slowly getting pale at her threat.

“I won't escape. I want to rest; please give me that.”

“And, why would I believe you? You have powers, and I know you can heal yourself too fast. Did you think we would believe you after you did that stunt?”

“I tried to run away because your brother wanted to cage me here in this pack. Savannah, you're a woman, and I thought that you were the one who would understand me. I'm not a prisoner! He didn't need to cage me.”

Savannah stopped. She glanced at Alpha Axel before she sighed. She didn't even say another word when she moved to the door and left.

“W-What? Alpha Axel, she's a great woman for you. Don't waste her! I can't believe that spoiled Savannah immediately obeyed her.” Jake walked to the door. He followed Savannah, and I felt guilty all of a sudden. I understand Savannah; she was thinking about her brother, but I don't have plans to run away from this pack.

“Alpha Axel, you can stay here. Your mate needs you, but please don't create noise.” The pack doctor left me with Alpha Axel.

“Okay, you should take a rest. Do you want me to embrace you? I found out that hugging your mate will help you to heal fast.” My lips trembled when he moved closer to me. He lay on the bed and grabbed me too fast.

“Sleep, my little wolf.” He whispered. I wanted to push him, but my wolf enjoyed our physical interactions. He caressed my hair, which made me feel more nervous. I wasn't used to cuddling with anyone except my father.

“I can't breathe,” I muttered. I tapped my chest when it was clenching. It feels like I was in the cloud when Alpha Axel tried to help me sleep.

“W-Wait, I will call the doctor. You should inform him when he's with us before he leaves.” Alpha Axel was about to sit, but I stopped him. He scowled, and he was confused.

“I don't need the doctor. I need a rest to sleep.”

“That's what I am doing.” Alpha Axel lay on the bed again. I closed my eyes when I smelled his minty breath.

“I can't breathe whenever you are with me. It felt like someone was clenching my chest.” I decided to be more honest with him. He's my mate, and I don't understand why I felt he was a good man even though he was known as ruthless in other packs.

“Do you want me to leave you, too? I'm sorry to inform you, but I couldn't do that. The doctor said that I'm a big help for you to get healed.”

“I know. I want to be honest with you. I don't understand why I couldn't breathe when I was with you.”

“I'm sorry if that happened to you. I will ask my father about this.” Alpha Axel caressed my brow, and it helped me slowly fall asleep.

“Why do you need to ask your father about this? Didn't you understand the meaning of what I told you?”

“I-I don't understand. I think it's the witch's fault. She doesn't want me to be free from her curse.”

“What are you talking about, Alpha Axel? Why are you blaming someone? Okay, we're mates, so, naturally, I'm so affected whenever you're with me.”

“Are you sure that is because of the mate bond? It would help if you didn't get hurt anymore. I'm sorry if I tried to prison you here in my pack. I'm scared that you might reject me b-because–” Alpha Axel sighed deeply. I could almost hear his heartbeat and knew he was too nervous to tell me everything.

“Because of what? I don't understand you, Alpha Axel.” He closed his eyes and aggressively calmed himself down. I knew he was trying to tell me, but he was too uneasy.

“I can't tell you everything. I don't want you to leave me; you're my last chance, Zoe.” He whispered.

“Alpha Axel, please tell me everything,” I mumbled as I felt my eyes wanting to rest.

“I want to tell everything to you, but I'm scared because, in the end, you'll reject me. I'm not a charming prince, Zoe. Someone cursed me. Though I know that you have a pure heart, I want to ensure that you're willing to accept me.” I didn't understand Alpha Axel's words when I fell asleep because I felt that he was lullabying me through his voice.

“You're my last mate, and I don't want you to be gone. I need you to be free from this curse.” He whispered as I began to snore.
