She watched as her father was taken away by the assigned guards out of the gate with the leadership of Jerrick and when she remembered that her mother’s corpse was still there, she ran to the place where she left them and found no one there anymore.
“Where are they? Why did they carry her to?” she asked the maid who was working around the area after looking around
“She has been taken to the maids’ burial site, she would have been buried by now, hurry there” the maid replied before going out with other maids
She ran to the servants’ burial site and saw that they were almost done with the burial, she shouted for them to stop as she raced up the hill
“Stop! Please stop! How can you bury her without me saying goodbye to her? Who does that?” she asked with her chest heaving up and down, the tears she had poured out earlier were now dried on her face leaving behind traces and line
“The king has ordered for the burial as soon as possible, we have no choice than to carry it out immediately” one of them informed her
“Why is everyone just mean towards us? What did we do wrong? What is our offense? Why are you people treating us this way? We don’t deserve this” she cried out and started fresh tears but all her rants were ignored and the man motioned for the men burying the queen to continue
She watched as every bit of her was covered with nothing to do or say and as soon as they were true with it, she fainted immediately, the stress and shock was too much for her. Convel was assigned to work on the farm outside the palace thanks to Jerrick so he could not witness all that was happening to her or even comfort her.
She was taken to her room by the men and was treated by the doctor before being left to rest, she was still sleeping when Convel came back in the evening and was informed about all that had happened by the people in the palace. He rushed to her room but her roommate told him that she was still sleeping so he said he would come back and also tell her he was there when she wakes up.
She became really sick for days and Jerrick secretly instructed that she should be given the best medical service, she was running temperature for days and couldn’t eat unless she was forced too, she was close to lifeless. She finally got to walk on her feet the fourth day and decided to visit her favorite spot in the garden while she was still a princess.
She sat down on the grass under the big tree at the far end of the garden and was staring into the space, her lips were chapped and lifeless, she herself was so weak that she had to rest her back on the tree for support as she gazed into the sky and all the memories she had with her father and mother were being replayed in front of her, she was missing them seriously and wished everything didn’t turn out as it was now
“How did we come to this?” she muttered to herself
She was so lost in thought and didn’t even notice that someone was coming behind her in the garden until she suddenly saw someone sat beside her and she looked to see who it was with shock evident on her face only to see Jerrick there also staring down the field
“I knew you will be here” he said but she just flew up from his side and started walking towards the entrance of the garden before he stood up and ran after her, he held her to stop her and she turned before yelling at him
“What do you think you are doing? Why are you holding me?” she screamed at him
“Calm down Shirley, I am here as a friend not as a master, you can gaze all you want, I will not disturb you or the view” he said with a calm voice but she just laughed like a possessed being for a while before flinging his hand away
“Friends you say? Did you just say we are friends? I don’t remember being friends with someone as evil and cruel like you. You, when did you allow the evil in you to consume you this much? You are nothing but a power driven and drunken devil so don’t ever call me your friend because I cannot be one with someone this vile” she spat at her
“No matter what might have happened, it doesn’t change the fact that we have been friends who grew up and we were betrothed to each other but we couldn’t get together, if only that lowly something didn’t come between us” he growled and before he could finish the statement, she delivered a lightening slap on his face making him stagger in shock as he held his face and looked into her eyes with surprise
“That lowly something is ten times, no, hundred folds and even thousand folds better than someone who is as cocky and nasty as you. I have never loved you or wanted to live with you and he made that dream come true so he is nothing but my saving angel” she said firmly and he chuckled
“Your saving angel but he was the one that pulled you into all these mess, your father is now banished, your mother is dead and now you are nothing but a slave, don’t you think you should be groveling and thinking about how to grab my hand so you can easily climb up to that top where you belong” he replied with mockery in his voice
“Till you die, don’t ever mention my father or my mother with that filthy rag you called mouth and as for me, do not worry about me because I will make sure to climb that ladder back to meet you up there and any day I end up climbing it successfully, death will be too good for you” she said to him and resumed her walk until she heard him say another thing that made her pause
“Do you want to be my wife? I can make that happen easily” he said to her and she stopped to look at him
“What did you just say?” she asked walking back to close up the distance between them
“Since I am someone whose authority has increased over time, I can easily make you my wife and your lost glory will be returned, you will be able to live the life of royalty you once lived and not put your hope on someone who will do nothing but be a slave for the rest of his life” he said to her and she scoffed
“If the person whom you are talking about is the father of my kid then don’t worry, he can never be a slave for the rest of his life because divinity will stand up to speak and act on the unfairness we are all passing through right now thanks to you and your notorious father” she remarked and he grabbed her in the throat
“How dare you disrespect my father? Do you even realize he is the king now and not your father?” he bellowed at her but she was not moved whatsoever
“What? Does it hurt? Your father said worse to my father but I guess it is normal since he is the king while I have to bottle my feeling inside because I am a slave? I thought he was the one advocating for one kingdom regardless of class, you are both nothing but a fool who will go astray no matter what because he is a fool” she said to him
“You will regret this, I will make sure of that” he gritted back at her
“You can suit yourself because I am not afraid of even death at this point, and also don’t be relaxed because I already told you that I will be ready to push you off that top whenever I get there” she added before storming out of the garden in anger
As soon as she stomped out of the garden, Convel who was already waiting for her ran to meet her at the entrance, she smiled as soon as she saw him and he slowly held her hand in return
“How are you feeling now?” he asked looking into her eyes as he rubbed her hand gently
“I am better now, I heard you kept coming by when I was asleep, I am sorry for making you worry” she said with a faint smile
“You don’t have to be sorry, you being healthy once again is enough for me” he replied with a smile before Jerrick stormed out of the garden
He turned to look at him who also paused to glare at him but he just bowed in respect before holding her hand tightly, Jerrick glanced at their hands as he saw them holding unto each other tightly, he stormed off in anger but Convel was not intimidated, he already understood what happened
