"Erica? Are you still there?"
Lidya's voice pulls me out of the trance. I push him away with the little strength that I have left in my body, but he doesn't move an inch, looking at me like he was seeing a ghost.
"So... Erica." His voice is hoarse and he gets so close that I can feel his breath tickling on my neck. And then, he steps back, leaving me and my weak knees to handle the sudden loss of support.
I can't even decide if I have to thank Lidya or if I have to kill her, but for now, I just put my phone on my ear and say in a trembling voice that I cant seem to control anymore:
"Yes, yes, I'll see you at home. I've got to go now." I end the call before she says anything else and look at the asshole stranger.
Well, not a stranger anymore, the asshole Alan Parker.
He gets in the car without a second look at me and orders loud to hurry because he is already late. As I didn't know that from the first ten times he screamed it. If I knew what I was getting myself into I would have chosen to go to the police station... But it's too late for that so I roll my eyes and get in the car before he says something else and I punch him in the face... again.
I drive in silence through the busy streets of the city, passing by familiar buildings and parks, by fancy restaurants that I used to eat at, by cafes that I used to come at with my friends and I can't help but image what my life would look like if I could erase the last year.
We reach our destination just in time because his phone starts to ring. His face says it all
"Yes, I am here, Chloe... No, if he threatens to leave then tell him to leave because he will come back anyway, he can't win the case without me and he knows it."
He doesn't seem pleased.
"You..."
Oh s**t, what have I done now?
"You can go now, I think we are even."
Halleluiah, Erica is a free elf now!
He turns around without giving me another look. I can't understand why is he so rude, but I was raised not to be like that so before he enters the building I put a smile on my face and I wave him as a goodbye.
"Good luck! Have a nice day!"
The look on his face is worth this mess of a day. Yes, I would be surprised too if someone would respond nicely after I've bullied them, but not all people are assholes.
No time to enjoy my small victory because I see my bus coming and I have to run my soul out of my body to catch it. My luck is that the driver sees me and waits so I won't have to stay half an hour for another one to come at 10 degrees.
All my way to Lidya's apartment I can't stop myself thinking about the man: Alan Parker. Damn right, I am going to google his name and find out why he thinks he is so important.
I am still thinking about it when I open the door and I find myself surrounded by thousands and thousands of blue roses: me and my mother's favorites.
"Lidya! What have you done?!" I yell trying to find her in this gorgeous mess.
"Erica! Finally! Do you like them?" yells back at me a very excited Lidya.
"I love them, but they must cost a fortune!"
"No, not really, I called a friend who knows a friend and I got them for a really great deal."
She appears from behind a huge arrangement with the biggest smile on her face. I give her a tight hug. I can't put in words how much I love this girl. She saved me! She lets me stay with her until I get back on my feets, she co-organized (organized) the entire funeral with me (alone since I am a mess lately). She was my only support in this period.
"Don't start crying now!!"
I wipe away the tears that are already falling on my cheeks and smile at her. Her pretty face lights up and she takes my hand dragging me to the sofa where big pepperoni pizza waits for us. I didn't even realize that I am starving until I see the treat and my mouth starts watering.
"Lidya, you are a treasure, did anybody told you that before?"
She laughs giving me that I already know it look of hers and we start to eat. We talk for a while about anything else but the funeral and she is trying hard to distract me going over and over the fact that she saw a bald actress and she will cut her hair too. I roll my eyes. She has the most gorgeous long, blonde hair that goes perfectly with her baby blue eyes and fairy skin. To cut it would be pure madness.
I suddenly remember the man and almost slap myself for forgetting.
"Lidya, you know someone named Alan Parker?"
"And you don't?" She seems offended by my ignorance.
"I met him today and he was an absolute, entitled asshole..." I don't have the chance to finish.
"YOU MET ALAN PARKER??? AND YOU WAITED UNTIL NOW TO TELL ME?"
I say a little prayer of forgiveness in my mind for our poor neighbors because I am sure they've become deaf after her scream.
"So who is he?"
She gives me a killer look then she grabs her laptop and shows me thousands of articles of the new sensation of the city, to quote a title. So he is a lawyer, a good one from what I read and that explains his arrogant attitude, that and the fact that he is a... billionaire. Apparently he inherited his grandfather fortune last year and opened his own law firm. And I punched this man in the nose. I am half proud, half petrified.
At least I won't have to see him ever again.
Just as I thought of that I hear Lidya's confused voice:
"Erica? Why do you have this?"
I turn around and see what she has in her hand: the Porsche's key!
Oh s**t, NOW I'm screwed!
