I can see the blood coming down of his nose while he gives me a killer look. I already regret my decision but I can't take it back now so I might as well try keeping my composure especially since the man starts to approach me looking like a predator ready to hunt. But as he approach, something makes him freeze on his spot. A look of realisation flush on his face for a split of second before he regains his composure.
What was that about?
"To the hospital and then to the Parker Tower", he says putting the keys in my hand and turning around.
"To what?" Here comes my jaw on the floor all over again... Today I should leave it there.
"Do you expect me to drive in this condition or do you want me to call the police, which I would but I don't have the time right now since, like already told you, I AM LATE!"
And with that he disappears in the car, leaving me three seconds to decide if I want to spend the day before my mother's funeral with a stranger/asshole or at the police station. Easy choice, isn't it? And still I think I managed to pick the wrong option.
I climb in the luxurious car and feel the soft embrace of the leather chair. Damn, it feels good, but don't have the time to enjoy it since I can feel him looking impatiently at me. I start the engineering and I almost let out a small purr at the sound. I lose myself in the calmness of driving trough the known streets when I hear his deep voice in my ears.
"I didn't expect from you to be capable of driving such a car." He sounds almost fascinated if that can even be possible.
"I had one exactly the same before."
"Before what?" He asks a question, but his tone sounds like he already knows the answer to it. Or is it just my imagination again?
"Just before." Anyway, there is no way I am going to discuss my problems with a man that showed no sign that he is able to empathize.
I drive in silence until we reach the first ordered destination: the hospital. I stop in front of the gates and I wait for him to say something, but he continues to write messages on his phone.
"Now what?" No answer.
In a few minutes, a man comes to us and guides us through the gates to a V.I.P. parking spot. I wish a wouldn't be so impressed...
The man that guided us opens the doors and invite us out.
"Mister Alan Parker, Doctor Triani sent me to accompany you to his office where he is ready to see you"
And with that, they both enter in the hospital building, leaving me to wonder what in the seven hells am I supposed to do next. Since I don't get any signs from Heaven I decide to call my best friend Lidya to ask her the biggest question for today: Who is the handsome asshole?
"WHERE ARE YOU?" yells a panicked Lidya after the first tone.
"Some unexpected things happened, but I am fine."
"I was worried to death, girl! When are you coming home?"
"Later, I am stuck in something and I know you already did so much for me lately, but..."
"Damn right I did. I even called an old friend and got you that stupid paper that you were stressing about since yesterday."
"What? Lidya, you are an angel!"
So all this mess for nothing...Great!
I don't get to ask her what I wanted to know because he is back, looking hot, looking rich, looking very very pissed. And I can see why: a huge bandage covers his entire nose, making him look like a duck.
"I hope you are pleased, I have a meeting with a client in ten minutes and this is how I will present myself."
I can't help but let out a small giggle. He even sounds like a duck. The more I look the less I can control my laughter. My amusement doesn't please him apparently so he approaches, trapping me between his muscular arms and the car, while he towers me threateningly. He is so close that I can smell the freshness of his breath. He smells like mint and expensive cigarettes. He catches my eyes into his and I get lost in the depth of their blackness. I am breathless for a second and then I notice his smile: arrogant and malicious, and a hint of something more, while he lowers himself dangerously close my lips.
My mind goes black.
OH, God...
