Chapter 24: Examination Had Started

Valerie could not help but say, “Kira…”

“Valerie, are you not going to think about what to draw next?” Kira’s voice was flat, as though there was no emotion. “As for me, it’s not needed at all.”

Seeing that Kira had no intention of helping her out of the situation, as Valerie looked around, she saw their gazes full of ridicule.

For the first time, Valerie could almost not control herself and wanted to slap Kira hard on the face.

She reluctantly suppressed her emotions. No one knows how hard it was for her to control herself at that moment. With her teeth clenched, she spoke, “It seems that Kira has already thought everything thoroughly. Since that’s the case, I’ll be waiting for your outstanding performance later. I know it will be awesome!”

After she finished her words, she brushed her sleeves away and turned around to leave angrily. Celina and Leslie followed her but did not forget to glare at Kira before leaving.

Katelyn looked at Kira and asked, “It was funny… Looking at how Lady Valerie almost lost her composure, it was a sight to behold… But will you be okay after this? I don’t think Lady Valerie will let you get away with it.”

“Even if I did nothing, she still wouldn’t let me get away.” Kira looked at the chess pieces on the board before continuing, " Enduring is not a solution. It will not solve anything… So, it’s best to attack first so that your enemies will be caught off guard.”

The examination will now begin. There are a total of 30 participants who will be participating in the scholarly arts. It mostly comprises female participants. On the other hand, in the military arts, there are only 20 participants, mostly male nobles.

The scholarly arts will be held first. In this examination, the 30 participants will be divided into 4 groups. That’s according to the paper they drew out in the wooden barrel a while ago. In the dance and music groups, there will be 8 people each. And in the painting and poem group, there will be 7 groups each.

For the painting group where Kira was part, there was Celina Flynn, Dave Maximo’s sister, Morgana’s half-sister, Marcel Thorin’s daughter, and the other two were daughters of some of the low-ranking officials.

Among Kira’s opponents, there are two formidable opponents. Celina Flynn is a loyal follower of Valerie and also the daughter of the head of the Castle’s Treasury, and also Morgana’s half-sister, Cinder Roswell.

Cinder Roswell was the illegitimate daughter of Allen Roswell. She was born a year before Morgana was born. This became a thorn in Allen Roswell’s wife, Morgana’s mother.

So, Cinder and Morgana did not get along very well. To be exact, Cinder was the same as Lawrence but she was quite fortunate because she had been living with the Roswell family ever since she was born.

Although there was a big difference in treatment between the two sisters, she was still considered lucky. She was still being treated as a noble family daughter. From clothes, education, and wealth, she had them all…

It was really heartbreaking. The once elegant and beautiful Cinder Roswell was given unfair treatment even after her death. Her situation isn’t that different from hers.

Cinder was very beautiful, smart, and elegant in every way. She could even contend with Valerie in terms of talent. That’s also the reason why Valerie hated Cinder. If not because of her status as an illegitimate child, she could compete with Valerie in every aspect.

Kira’s eyes landed on Cinder. Today, she was wearing a black strapless dress. With diamonds inlaid on her chest that once the moonlight hits the stones, made her dress shine. She was glamorous and, unlike Valerie’s soft beauty, Cinder’s presence was like a pure lotus flower.

Seeming aware of Kira’s sight, Cinder looked over and was somewhat surprised. Maybe it’s because of her polite nature, she smiled at her before turning her gaze away.

Kira did not bother returning her gesture and just focused on the game she was playing. She was still contemplating whether to use Cinder Roswell in her plans. She would be a great addition, but quite risky as well.

Knowing her smartness and intelligence, it would be hard to convince someone like her… It must be planned thoroughly before being put into action. There’s also Allen Roswell, who might become a hindrance.

Everyone knew how Cinder valued her father so much. So, convincing her to go against her father would be a difficult deal…

When the examiners on the stage beat the drum, the examinations had officially started. The first group who will be competing will be dance. It was time for Katelyn to show her skills on the stage.

Kira didn’t know whether Katelyn was just lucky or she was just highly skilled and the other people on the stage looked like decorations for her. Their dancing looked mediocre compared to Katelyn, who danced with a combination of power and gentleness…

“Ms. Katelyn Saige is really a dancing fairy…” a man in a blue robe commented on the side.

Kira can’t help but agree. Katelyn indeed looked like a fairy when she danced. The way her blue dress swayed together with the music, it was like they had a mind of their own.

The dance category was almost finished and the judges, together with some of the participants, were already discussing and betting on who would win this round. In each group, there will be 3 winners that will be able to move on to the next round.

As the song ended, sounds of applause erupted. The participants bowed elegantly and slowly walked down the stage. Katelyn went back to Kira’s table with a smile, “How was it?”

“Not bad..” Kira said nonchalantly… Katelyn just chuckled at her non-responsive remark and drank a cup of tea.

It was time for the next group, the poem. The same with dance, the participants are given a limited time to create a poem that is related to the theme given to them. Each participant will have a different theme, so it’s not possible for them to have the same concept.

After the poem, there was music. This time, it was the group that Valerie was part of. They can choose which musical instrument they will be playing for this round. And as for Valerie, she chose piano.

It’s not a surprise anymore. Among all the other instruments, the piano can highlight her elegance and beauty very well. And adding to the fact that the melody of the piano is very gentle, it will make her look like a goddess on the stage.

And what Kira thought wasn’t wrong…. After Valerie’s performance, songs of praise instantly sounded. Even her father looked proudly at Valerie. She could hear the officials congratulating her father for having such a talented daughter.

However, no matter how much praise Valerie gets, she’s still not the winner. They still need to finish all four groups before announcing the participants who would move to the next round.

Now, it’s time for the painting group. The rules are quite simple. Everyone will have the same theme and it will be judged according to the relatedness and beauty of the painting.

Kira stood up from her seat and walked toward the stage. She saw Valerie waiting for her just below it, most likely she was waiting for her to humiliate her, “Good luck my dear sister. You don’t have to worry about my painting last year! As long as you can win, I won’t feel bad if you were able to defeat my painting.”

These words were heard by Celina at the right moment and she could not help but laugh, “Lady Valerie, what are you talking about? Defeat Ethereal Moon?!… Even if you give Lady Kira a thousand years’ worth of practice, she won’t be able to defeat your painting.”

Kira did not answer and just looked at her indifferently. Under those extremely cold eyes, Celina’s smile froze and Valerie also felt that Kira’s expression was not good.

Valerie was about to speak when Cinder arrived and spoke, “There’s no use in fighting below the stage. If you want to fight, then do it on the stage and let everyone be the witness. Am I right, Lady Valerie?”
