Chapter 21: Meeting Clovis Morris

1465 Words
Soon, a few more nobles arrived on the scene. Kira managed to recognize some of the high-ranking officials, thanks to the list given to her by Auntie Herma and also to the books she had been reading every day. She observed the whole place, looking for a certain person that she had wanted to see for a long time. “My dear sister! I’m so glad you managed to come! I thought you were sick but thank goodness you are already fine!” Suddenly a voice rang in her ear. It was unknown when Valerie walked over and sat across her,” What are you doing here alone?… You should come with me and meet some people. It’s rare for you to attend this event!” Valerie looked down at the chessboard. She had noticed that by the time Kira arrived, not once did she go to her. She looked for a place for her alone and played with the board for the whole time. She doesn’t want to talk to her in the first place. Because of her arrival, the attention that was supposed to be hers was transferred to her and she hated that! But she has to maintain her reputation. She had to portray a very loving sister image in front of this crowd. That’s why she came over. And also, she has to know how on earth she got here? Dave hasn’t come back yet and until now, Morgana is nowhere to be found. The examination was about to start and she was sure that Morgana definitely wouldn’t like to miss it!... So where is she right now? “Thank you for your concern, sister! I’m fine here! Besides, I didn’t come here to compete, I just want to have a look at the examination.”…and also to see Clovis Morris! Valerie kept a slight smile before replying, “If that’s the case, how about you watch it from the platform?… You see, although there’s no vacant seat at the moment, you can see the examination better on the platform, even just by standing.” Kira scoffed in her heart. On the platform?… That’s where the royals and high-ranking officials are seated. There were only limited seats placed there and she was sure that no one reserved one for her. So, if she’s going to stand on the platform instead of sitting, she will look like a servant! Only the servants of the nobles are standing on the platform. She would become the biggest joke if that happened. “I’m fine here Valerie. No need! I like the view here better and it makes me feel closer to our people. Remember what mother said to us, serving and connecting with our people is what a princess should do.” This made Valerie shut up. She didn’t know what to reply to! Initially, she wanted to invite Kira to the platform and humiliate her by making her stand together with the servants. But now that Kira stated it this way, this makes her look like she is looking down on ordinary people. If she insisted on making Kira go to the platform, this would gather hate from the ordinary people. Especially now that some people are listening to their conversation! Valerie seethes with hatred. Kira managed to dodge her scheme once again! Why is it so hard to deal with her compared to before?! No one knew how much she wanted to strangle Kira to death! If not for her image, she would have done that a long time ago! Kira smiled sweetly when she noticed how there was a quick change in Valerie’s expression. “So I think I should just stay here, sister!…” she glanced around the place, looking for someone before she asked, “Where is Morgana?… I didn’t see her today.” Valerie was startled. Why is she looking for Morgana? Did she have something to do with Morgana’s absence?... But no matter how much she wanted to ask those, she kept her composure and smiled innocently, “She will be a little late today… There’s something wrong with her dress that’s why she had it fixed first.” Kira also smiled before nodding, “It would be really bad if she wore a damaged outfit for tonight… But I hope that she will be here before the examination starts. It would be a shame if she couldn’t attend this time.” Disdain flashed in Valerie’s eyes momentarily but her smile was sweet as she stood up from her seat, intending to leave, “I hope so as well… I had better go now to prepare for the examination. But don’t hesitate to call me if you need anything, okay?” Kira answered her with a smile. As soon as Valerie left, Kira’s sweet smile turned serious instantly. “Bariston, you have already taken care of Dave, right?” Bariston bent over and whispered, “Yes Lady Kira. I had someone lock him up somewhere. Thanks to what you gave me, capturing him was easier this time.” This is the task she gave him. Since she needed Morgana and Franz to escalate their affair, she couldn’t have Dave lurking around freely. If she doesn’t take care of him first, her plan will be sabotaged. So, she asked Bariston to hire some people who could lock him up so that he couldn’t escape. She also handed them a fragrant tonic that can make a person sleep for a few hours that they can use on Dave. Now that everything is set, all she has to do is to beat Valerie in this examination and wait for the grand reveal. After this, she would be able to leave this castle and increase her power easily. There’s also Lawrence that she has to heal… Just as she was thinking about her plan, she heard someone announcing, “Master Javier, Alpha of Rouguemont Castle has arrived.” Kira didn’t raise her head and looked down at her chess pieces. She doesn’t have any slight interest in showing respect to that despicable father of hers. But then, when she was contemplating what her next move was, she paused when she heard the name she was waiting to hear, “Young Master Clovis Morris, son of Wishborne Castle’s Alpha, has arrived!” She raised her eyes and looked towards the male side of the platform with eyes completely serene. 'Clovis Morris… ' In the past lifetime, she was deeply humiliated when she was sent to their castle. On the day Auntie Herma died, he was the first one who blamed everything on Auntie Herma's head. That’s why she died without having a proper burial. Although what she did was to protect her, she was labeled as a traitor who tried to harm the people of the noble and royal families. She won’t be able to forget that time! If not because of her loyalty and trust in her sister, she had already long gone confronted him and maybe died at his hands. For the years she stayed in Wishborne Castle, she learned the despicable truth about Clovis Morris. Unbeknownst to everyone, the cold and aloof Clovis Morris is not what they think he is. He had a secret room in the castle where there were several women inside. Some were half dead and some were traumatized sexually. Some even died because of his harsh treatment of them in bed. Clovis Morris had this extreme obsession with sadistic and masochistic pleasure. He won’t be satisfied until his bedmate is already crying in pain and her body is already full of scars and bruises. He enjoyed it and it added to his pleasure if the woman was already crying in pain and pleading with him to stop. Bariston accidentally learned about this because, according to him, he saved a woman who was one of Clovis Morris’s women. She didn’t have the details of who that woman was and how she managed to escape. When she tried to say those things to Valerie, she was immediately labeled as a liar who wanted to destroy her good sister’s marriage. If there was one thing she wanted to say to her old self, she shouldn’t have tried to stop Valerie from her marriage. She shouldn’t have warned her about him. In that way, Valerie would have a taste of her own medicine if she becomes one of his toys. Kira’s gaze passed Clovis Morris and landed on Valerie at the platform area designated for females. Sure enough, she saw Valerie’s face brighten instantly. A look of admiration flashed in her eyes. ‘This will be fun!’ Kira held a black chess piece and slowly placed it on the chessboard. “The game begins!”
