Tyler
I hate that my mate is so resistant to Skylar and me. I know my brother says he doesn't want her. But I know he does. I can sense it. It was hard for him to claim he hated her. He was more frantic to get to her when she barricaded herself in her house.
After she ran, we pursued her. Slamming the door in our faces merely enraged our frantic wolves. We circled the house shouting to her. It took all my strength to keep Castor from bursting out of me. And I know Pollux was just as frantic.
Our father came to get us with the other alpha. Skylar tried to tell him that we just wanted to reject her. But of course, Dad had to lecture my twin about the mate bond.
“Rejecting your fated mate will weaken you,” Dad told us. “Your wolves may even be reluctant to lend their strength or heal you. And I don't want weak alphas leading my pack.”
“Fine, we'll accept her. But she won't be our Luna,” Skylar hissed.
I felt a different way. I want Amber at my side, leading our large pack. I could already tell she is a strong, intelligent woman, everything two strong alphas need in a Luna. Savannah is beautiful but not the brightest. And I felt nothing for her.
Amber walks back into the room with her father. She stays by his side, avoiding looking at Skylar and me. My brother is standing with his arms folded, just glaring at her.
'Look at her. Acting like a child,' He scoffs in my mind. 'Savannah wouldn't act like that.'
Henry approaches Amber with a serious look, "Amber, sweetie, I have reached a deal with Victor." He says. I find it interesting that he calls her sweetie, but I learned that Amber is his niece. Her mother had been the alpha's sister. "You will go to Nightstar tomorrow."
Amber's eyes go wide, "What? No, Uncle Henry, why would you do that to me?" She says through tears.
I hate how devastated she sounds. I want to take her into my arms to comfort her.
"Amber, it's time you grow up," Alpha Henry tells her.
"Why does everyone say that to me? I work my ass off for this pack," She points angrily at us. "They don't even want me, and I don't want them."
"It’s not about want, Amber,” My father chimes in. “You need to be with your mates, and they need to be strong to lead my pack.”
Amber folds her arms and glares at him. I see Dad chew his lip. I know how much he hates disrespect from lower ranked pack members. “I will not roll over like my sister did to become a broodmare.”
“Like we are going to mate with you,” Skylar spats.
“Skylar,” Dad barks at him.
“It’s final, Amber.” Alpha Henry sighs. “In order to keep the peace between the packs, you will go to Nightstar.”
Amber’s nose flares as I can sense her anger. I want to comfort her and tell her that I don’t feel the same way my brother does. “Can I go now?” She hisses.
“Yes,” Alpha Henry responds. “Just be packed and ready to go tomorrow morning.”
“I would like to be on the road by eight am,” Dad adds.
“And don’t forget about the ceremony,” Alpha Henry says as Amber storms out of the office.
“Amber,” I call to her and try to follow, but Skylar grabs me. “Let me go, Sky,” I punch his hand.
“You want that mess?” He scoffs.
I punch him away, but he tries to grab me again.
“Boys!” Dad growls at us.
“I think this meeting is adjourned,” Alpha Henry chuckles.
“Yeah, I can use a drink,” Dad laughs.
“I can use three,” Henry counters. “Your boys are free to roam the pack.”
I take that cue and head for the door.
“Behave,” Dad laughs from behind me.
I leave the office, and Amber’s scent hangs in the air. I follow it to a sitting room and see her talking to several women. Amber glances at me with a sneer.
“Is this one of the twins?” Luna Rachael smiles at me. “Aren’t you handsome? Oh, Amber.”
Amber huffs.
Skylar walks in behind me.
“Be still, my heart,” the Luna laughs. “Amber, these boys are going to keep you busy.”
“Right,” My mate grumbles. “I’m going home now, Aunt Rachael.”
“Amber, I thought we were going to hang out until the ceremony,” the Alpha’s daughter whines.
“I don’t feel like hanging out, Kaylee,” Amber says. “I just need to be alone.” She glares at us as she pushes through us and walks down the hall.
Castor whimpers in my head as I watch her walk away. I admire the way her body moves. Dirty images flash through my mind as I imagine her under me, screaming my name.
“So, it’s Skylar and Tyler,” Luna Rachael’s voice interrupts my thoughts.
“Yes, ma’am,” Skylar answers her. “I’m Skylar, and that’s Tyler.”
“I pray that you both take good care of our Amber,” Luna Rachael touches Skylar’s arm.
“They are going to be the ones that need taking care of,” Kaylee snorts.
“Kaylee,” Her mother gives her a look. The luna turns to us, “Amber can be a handful.”
An elder woman steps towards us, “She has wanted to be a member of Henry’s Elite Squad ever since her mother died,” The elder looks down. “Her mother, Catherine, was my daughter.”
“And you are-“ I question.
“Phyllis Martin, my mate Norman is the former alpha. He is Henry and Catherine’s father. So, Amber is our granddaughter. Her father, Flynt, comes from a strong gamma line. Amber, however, inherited an alpha wolf,” Phyllis explains. “She takes after me. I have an alpha wolf too.”
I hear Skylar sigh heavily, ‘I don’t want some b***h thinking she can tell us what to do,’ he mind links me. “Thank you, Phyllis,” Skylar puts on a mask as he speaks. “Tyler and I will take good care of Amber.”
I nod in agreement.
‘She’ll be locked in the damn dungeon,’ He grumbles.
I shake my head, “Thank you, ladies. I am going to take a walk around your lovely territory.”
“Oh, that is fine,” Luna Rachael smiles at me.
“What pack do you hail from, Phyllis?” Skylar asks as I start out of the room.
“Thunder Rock,” Phyllis responds. “My great-nephew David just became alpha.”
“That is a powerful pack, too,” Skylar says.
Amber comes from several strong bloodlines. Her grandmother is a Hunt. And the Hunt alpha line is one of the strongest.
‘Imagine how strong our pups will be,’ Castor whispers.
‘I wish Skylar could see it. Savannah is merely a beta and not a strong one,’ I tell my wolf.
My feet carry me out of the packhouse, and I walk toward Amber’s house. I remember how to get there. It’s only a block or two away from the packhouse. Before long, I am standing in front of the modest house. I think it’s cute with the little white picket fence surrounding a small flower garden. A few gnomes and other lawn ornaments adorn the outside. I step onto the porch. I want to talk to Amber alone without my brother.
I hear children screaming and laughing inside. I knock on the door and wait. I hear two female voices inside approaching the door. Neither of them is Amber. The door swings open to two females.
“Hello,” One of them greets me. “Can I help you?”
“That’s one of the Brooks twins, Nina,” Another female who appears pregnant says.
“Oh, Amber’s mate,” Nina grins.
“Yes, I’m Tyler Brooks,” I say as she opens the door to let me in. Five young pups all gather around us. “And who are these guys?”
“Oh, those are our pups,” The pregnant one states. “I’m Regina, by the way, Amber’s older sister.”
A male walks up to Regina and puts his arm around her, “Gabriel Carson,” He holds a hand out to me. “I’m the Gamma of Moonlit Springs and her mate,” He indicates Regina.
“Nice to meet you, Tyler-“
“Brooks, yeah,” Gabriel snorts.
“I’m Nina,” The other one smiles. “I am Dylan’s mate.”
“Are you here to see Amber?” Regina asks.
I nod, “I would just like to talk to her.”
Regina snorts, “I’ll see if I can get her out of her room.” She pats Gabriel’s shoulder and walks away. Two of the pups run after her.
“How many do you have?” I ask Gabriel.
He grins, “Four with two more on the way.”
“Wow,” I breathe out.
“I am not coming out!” I hear Amber shout from upstairs. I don’t hear Regina’s response, but Amber only gets louder. “Leave me alone, Regina!”
Regina comes back down the stairs with her two pups following behind, “I tried, Tyler.”
I take a deep breath, “I understand.” I force out as Castor whines.
‘Lilith is trying to get her to come down, but she is stubborn,’ He tells me.
“Perhaps, I’ll try again at the ceremony,” I look at the stairs. Amber’s scent is hanging in the air, and it’s taking a lot of strength not to run up the stairs.
“Amber is stubborn,” Regina laughs.
“She thinks having a mate is a bad thing,” Gabriel scoffs. “She hasn’t liked me since the day I met Regina. Amber thinks I forced Regina to give up medical school to have my pups.”
“And he didn’t force me,” Regina smiles at Gabriel. “The truth is, I was failing anyways,” She laughs. “I wanted to drop out to be with Gabriel. We,” She points to Gabriel, “Wanted this many pups.”
“Regina is free to return to school or whatever she wants,” Gabriel beams. “I love her, and she loves me.”
I look at the stairs again, “Thank you,” I say and head for the door.
It opens, and Gamma Flynt and his son Dylan walk in. “Hello, Skylar or Tyler,” Flynt grins at me.
“I’m Tyler,” I respond to Flynt.
“He came to try and talk to Amber, Daddy,” Regina informs her father.
Flynt snorts, “And?”
“I’ll see her later at the ceremony,” I say sadly.
“I’m sorry about my daughter,” Flynt touches my shoulder.
“It’s alright,” I smile and leave the house. My heart hurts as I turn to see Amber looking out of a window. Her eyes are narrowed, but I sense something else as I wave like an i***t.
Amber stares for a moment before closing the blinds.
I sigh and walk back to the packhouse. Skylar is out front smoking a joint. “You know Mom hates it when you smoke,” I say to my twin.
Skylar blows smoke out of his nostrils, “Mom isn’t here, Ty,” He tries to pass me the joint. “Here, take a hit. It will calm you down.”
“I’m calm,” I lie.
“No, you aren’t. You tried to go talk to her,” Skylar points out.
“How-“
Skylar lifts an eyebrow, “Like Pollux wasn’t trying to get me to go to her house too. So?”
“She wouldn’t come out of her room,” I mumbled sadly.
“Oh well,” He laughs. “Tomorrow, she’ll be in Nightstar.”
“I wish it was because she wanted to be there and not because our dad is strong-arming Henry into making her go,” I state.
“Whatever,” Skylar shrugs. “I can’t wait to f**k Savannah’s brains out to forget about-“ He pauses, “What’s her name.” He laughs.
“Savannah doesn’t have that many brains to f**k out,” I grumble.
Skylar drops his joint and slams me against the wall, “Don’t talk about our mate like that,” Skylar growls.
“Savannah is not our mate, Skylar,” I push him back.
He growls and punches me. “Neither is Amber.”
I punch him back, and he stumbles backward. He growls again and lunges at me.
“Boys!” Dad barks. “What are you doing?” He walks over. He bends down and picks up Skylar’s joint. “I thought we talked about this, Skylar.”
“It’s just weed, Dad,” Skylar shrugs and wipes blood from his nose. “Tyler and I were just talking.”
“Hmm,” Dad shakes his head. “Don’t let your mother catch you-“
“Mom isn’t here,” Skylar snarls and grabs the joint.
“I’m going to my room,” I state and walk away.
“Don’t be late for the ceremony, Tyler,” Dad shouts.
I nod as I go up the stairs to the guest rooms. I fall onto the bed face first and close my eyes. Amber’s beautiful face runs through my mind. I imagine an entire life with her. If Skylar wants Savannah, then he can have her. I’ll stay with Amber.
“Tyler,” Skylar wakes me up. “It’s time to get ready for the damn ceremony.”
I groan and sit up. My twin is already dressed in his suit.
“Hurry up,” He mutters.
I shower and get dressed. Dad is waiting for us in the hall with Beta Richard and Ethan. I smile at Ethan.
“Hey, Ty,” Ethan greets me as we descend the stairs. “How is it going?”
I shrug, “My head hurts,” I mumble.
“I bet,” He elbows me. “I saw your mate, and she is hot.”
I growl and glare at him, “Don’t be checking out my mate,” I hiss at him.
“She isn’t your mate,” Skylar grumbles.
We get outside, and a large meadow is set up for the ceremony. It looks nice with flowers and banners everywhere. Dad leads us to where we’ll be sitting. A few other visiting alphas, including David Hunt of Thunder Rock, have arrived. Dad greets them while we sit.
The scent of wild raspberries makes me turn, and I see Amber standing with her family, and my jaw drops. My mate is wearing a light blue dress while her reddish hair cascades down her strong shoulders. Her brown eyes sparkle as they catch my staring at her. Castor howls in my head. Amber turns away from us and begins talking to her sister.
“God dammit, why must she be so damn beautiful?” I hear Skylar whisper beside me.
