From his office overlooking the gym’s Olympic-sized swimming pool, Matt could hear the rain and wind lashing the building outside. The rain sounded like a steady rush, similar to the quiet sound of the air conditioning unit when it was on, a monotonous droning that drowned out all else. By contrast, the wind howled around the building’s eaves, thrashing the limbs of the trees alongside the gym’s exterior, adding ominous creaks and moans to the downpour.
