Chapter 32

1312 Words
Kaipo's POV "It could be worse." Lorenzo can be such an asshole sometimes. He is always so calm and he never takes anything seriously. Meanwhile, I have the weight of the world on my shoulders and an uninterested mate. It must be nice to be a regular Alpha. "How could it f*****g be worse, Lorenzo? My mate doesn't even recognize me, but I just got to hear her express her love for your mate. She doesn't even know who I am or what kind of pressure she will be under as Queen yet. Its like she's not even attracted to me. She's gonna reject me." She was happier meeting Zinnia than her gift from the Moon Goddess. She is definitely gonna reject me. "Now don't go jumping to conclusions. You don't know anything about her and this project could be the perfect opportunity for you to get to know her and find out why she doesn't recognize you. You don't know what she's been through. It seems like for now she just might need a friend." She might just need a friend. Okay, okay, I can do that. I can be a friend. I can take things slow, right? I walk up to my office to catch up on some work. All of the Alphas who were here during the attack except for Lorenzo have left by now and I asked a few of them to check up on the state of the packs that attacked us and report back. I have El locked up in my dungeons, but we haven't gotten anything out of him yet. I need to know if I should be worried about retaliation by his son, the new Alpha of the West Moontrail Pack. If my mate needs to speak with the Luna of that pack, that might give us an in. I just have to figure out some details. "Kai, are you gonna go back down to the party? They want to welcome your mate to the pack." Everett, my Beta, enters my office and takes a seat. "Yea, we won't be doing anything like that today. She doesn't recognize me as her mate and I can't have her knowing that I am King either." "But you are sure that she is your mate?" "Yep, and she is completely indifferent toward me. Her wolf is so weakened, she can't sense anything. I need something from you. Let everyone who lives and works here know that she is not to be informed of who I am and report back to me about anything you think I need to know about what she is doing." "Well, she is knowledgeable, she seems nice." "Right, she said she had met with you this morning." "Yea. I suppose I won't have to schedule her to meet with you and discuss her missing obelisk theory, but I do have to lock you down for a meeting with the Lunaria palace guard." "Who? What about?" "I don't know exactly. After my meeting with your mate, he came to me with a letter directly from their ruler that is meant for your eyes only. I took a look at it. It's legit." "Dammit, its getting late. Send him in first thing in the morning." "I'll send him in along with one of our guards just in case." "Very well." A personal letter from Lunaria's ruler is something I need to have read yesterday. Our correspondence was cut off long ago and I have been waiting to hear from him about the plan to deal with the Ihowtons. One of my guards, Maurice, enters along with an unfamiliar man early the next morning. The man bows and holds out a letter in his hand. Maurice takes it from him and hands it to me. I open it up and take the time to examine the seals to make sure it was from where I was being told it was from. Your Royal Highness Kaipo, As I am unsure if you are still Prince or if you have been anointed King, I have simply referred to you as the above. It is most likely that you are handling such matters as are expressed in this letter. No matter your lofty position, I hope all is well in your kingdom. For years, we have been working at coming up with a solution to our mutual problem, the invaders in the Dark Forest which separates our kingdoms. This problem seems to be getting worse as time passes. I would advise that you meet with Miss Topaz, but keep in mind that all of her claims regarding the missing obelisk are unfounded. She has been unable to prove that what she holds in her possession has anything to do with the appearance of Ihowtons or the existence of other pieces of the obelisk. Although she is diligent and well-meaning, her credibility is shallow. We have been stockpiling explosives and it has been decided that two weeks after the day the members of my kingdom bring you this letter, we will be bombing the forest. As I am now able to get in contact with you, I am able to let you know and ask you to make sure that all members of your kingdom are clear of the forest at that appointed time. We are confident that this solution will yield the best results. All the best, King Raymond, Alpha of the Winter Trail Pack of the Lunaria Kingdom. That is obviously batshit. They are going to bomb the forest? That is not a solution, that's barbaric. That is a catalyst to a possible disaster. It cannot be allowed. I keep a straight face as I look up to the young man before me. "Are you aware of the contents of this letter?" "I am. I was part of the board who came up with this solution. My name is Warren Ryner, sir." "And why, tell me please, is it a great idea to bomb the forest." "Well, the Ihowtons are a big problem for us and we cannot get close enough to find out why there is a tear that lets them in, so the bombing will lower their population and we will be sending individuals into the forest to find that out." "And why, enlighten me, is this better than following through with the missing obelisk theory?" The man sighs and shakes his head. "I take it you already spoke to Topaz. Yes, well she is only here so she would stop pestering King Raymond to let her come over. If I am being honest with you sir, you should just ignore everything that comes out of her mouth. That's what we do." "Last I heard, other obelisks had fallen and were being held in a safe place by your king. Was she not able to use those to corroborate her theory?" "Those actually went missing before she could see them. They are still missing, sir." "So, she has no credibility and she is only here because she persistently asked your king for help exploring her nonsense theory?" I query. "Yes. There is no evidence that her other pieces of jewelry or whatever even exist or that they are what she says they are. She isn't anybody that you should take seriously. We all know she is nuts." he laughs, slouching in his seat. "You are dismissed." "Yes, sir." he says, straightening up again. Motherfucker got a little too comfortable, but it did give me some insight into how my lady was treated in her pack. No, she isn't looking for a mate, but she does need an ally. I soon find my way back downstairs and knock on her door, taking a deep breath. She sheepishly opens the door with a shy smile and lets me in. "Tell me what I can do to help you."
