Chapter 19

Lorenzo's POV

Kai appears from behind his closed office room door, making my disappointment complete.

"She's not ready to talk to you."

Damn, I f****d up bad. "She doesn't want to see me. I should have guessed. Can you ask if she'll be my date to your inauguration?"

"Hmm."

He goes into mindlink and comes back with a positive response from her. "I can't believe I'm about to be a mateless King in a few days and my men and I are busy negotiating your love life."

"Yea, I'm an i***t. I owe you, man."

"Don't beat yourself up too bad. She said she'd go with you to my inauguration and she's a great girl. She will be an asset to your pack. We love her around here and you definitely don't deserve her." he laughs.

"Yea."

"You know I'm just messing with you, bro. You do deserve for something good to happen to you after all you've been through. She'll come around."

I get up to leave the room.

"She doesn't want to see you. That means leave her alone until your date. I don't want to hear that she's freaking out because you just popped up on her."

Goddammit.

"Yes, your highness." I say sarcastically, bowing and backing out of the room.

'Riel, I need your help. I've got a few things I need to do.'

I can't stop kicking myself for the mess I've caused. I assumed the worst about her, about her character, and she didn't deserve that. Now, all I can do is attempt to fix it.

I do everything I can think of to hopefully get this girl to like and forgive me. I just hope that it works. I finally try to let myself feel happy over the reality of actually finding my mate.

My other half. Zinnia. My Zinnia. Luna Zinnia.

I have been waiting so long for her. I feel a sense of relief knowing who she is and where she is. I can't wait to see her again. I actually begin to feel excited about bringing her home. My pack needs a lot of work. She probably won't love moving from a fully functioning castle to my partially baked, not-even-completely-built pack, but I hope she will at least be understanding.

'Alonzo, guess what.'

'Ummm, I give up.'

'I found my mate.'

'Oh s**t, bro. Congratulations. That's great. I'm happy for you, man.'

'She hates me.'

'Why? What did you do?'

Ugh.

'It doesn't matter. Listen. I'm probably going to be here longer then I was expecting so don't wait for me to come back before you start building the new packhouse on the date we already set. Also, I need you to set up a room for her in the old packhouse. Can you do that for me?'

'So you're telling me that whatever you did, you know she is not gonna want to be in the same room as you. Damn. You f****d up, huh? I got you.'

Like I don't feel bad enough already, here comes my Beta to kick me when I'm down.

'Mate will forgive us. Mate has to.'

'Yea, how do you know?'

Nathaniel has been wagging his tail in my head since we found out that she said she would be our date to the inauguration.

'Her wolf is very happy to meet us.'

Well, that's good to know.

Being barred by Kaipo from going to see her is driving me out of my mind. I hope my plans work and by the time she sees me, she doesn't hate me anymore. I decide to go to the gym to burn off some of this stress. I can't help but stop by her floor on my way there. Maybe I can just catch her scent. I tell myself I won't let her see me. I pass by her room, but I can scent that she is not in there. I figure I'll just go straight to the gym as I walk through the corridor. A door opens and I see the people I sent to help her coming out of the room. I'm glad they found her. I hope she chose something she likes.

Then, I hear her voice, her beautiful voice, say something that makes my heart sink.

"I don't want to have his stupid babies. I wanna stay here with Carlani."

As I get ready for my friend's inauguration, it feels like I am getting ready for my own execution. I don't even want to go anymore.

I always told myself that I wouldn't be cruel to my mate after witnessing how my mother suffered, but for a few moments I misunderstood my mate and she had turned her cruelty on to me.

I leave my room and go down to the ground level hall where the ceremony is to be held. I chat up some of the Alphas who are there, some I haven't seen in years. A few congratulate me on meeting my mate and ask when they will get to meet her. I do my best not to let on that anything is wrong.

"Is she here yet, Enzo?"

Dariel has found me in the crowd. He has been asking to meet my mate since he heard that she existed. I was excited to introduce them before, but now, I don't know.

"Not yet, but make sure she sees you. She will probably be your Luna, after all."

"Probably?"

I know when she gets here before she steps into the space. I can't stop myself from turning around to see her. She wears a long, light colored floral printed dress with a sexy slit on the side that shows some of her ample thigh. Her hair is down neat and she wears light makeup on her perfectly clear complected skin.

I had a feeling that she would look good in that dress and I'm glad she picked it. She looks better than I imagined she would. She is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. Beautiful and cruel.

Seeing her makes me think of what I overheard her say yesterday. Is that how she is going to talk about me when I'm not around? Does she hate me that much? Is she planning on rejecting me?

Fuck, I wasn't even supposed to hear her say that but since I have, I don't know what to think about her. I want us to have a good relationship, but I believe I have swallowed my pride so many times in the last few days that I have none left. I'm tired and I'm just gonna leave it up to her to make the next move.
