Chapter 29

1302 Words
Zinnia's POV First thing in the morning, I am saying goodbye to the people who brought my dress and shoes for me to wear to today's party. The second thing I do is unfold some boxes so I can continue packing. Today, there is going to be a celebration for my mate. I hadn't realized how close he and the King were, but Kaipo had an entire festival set up to celebrate Lorenzo. Lorenzo said that they had trained together during an important time in his life. "I can't believe you're leaving us." Leilani hugs Carlani close as she stands by my open door. I take the baby from her, put my nose to his chunky little neck and take a big whiff. "You better send me plenty of pictures. He won't remember me, but I'll never forget him." "Yes Luna," she jokes, "and I'll be sure to talk to him about the woman who brought him into this world." "Don't call me that. I'm not your Luna. Hopefully the Queen Luna shows up soon so I can come visit again for the mating ceremony." "So why are you and your mate sleeping apart? Are you guys not getting along?" "No, we're getting along. I like him a lot. We're just taking things slow." "You like me a lot, huh?" Lorenzo says loudly, standing at my door smiling. "Um, I wasn't even talking about you, nosey." I say, rolling my eyes, caught off guard that he heard me. "Sure you weren't." "She was, she was talking about you." Leilani rats me out immediately and I glare at her. "Are you ready to go?" Lorenzo smiles. I slip on my shoes and we walk out the door with Leilani following behind us. We go outside and there is cheer and applause for my mate. I speak to everyone around us as this is also a chance for me to say goodbye to everyone that I have been living around for the months that I've been here. I stop when I begin to hear voices in my head. 'He has found his mate.' 'The Queen Luna is here.' 'Who is she?' "What's going on?" Lorenzo asks me, sensing the stir. "The King found his mate." I smile at him. 'Stop staring at us. As you were!' the King growls to the pack and everybody goes back to what they were doing. "Oh, we have to go say hello." Lorenzo says, rubbing his hands together mischievously. "Actually, he wants to be left alone." "I know he does. That's why we're gonna go bother him." Lorenzo grabs my hand and we walk over to where the King is strolling with a gorgeous, tawny goddess in cornrows. Her legs are long and they glisten in the sunlight. "Oh, she's beautiful." As we get closer to her, I notice a piece of jewelry that I know I have to ask her about. When she sees us coming up to her, she looks relieved. I put my hand out to shake hers. 'She doesn't know that she is my mate. Don't let her know that I'm King or that she is my mate. I'm just a regular guy.' Kaipo growls in my head right before I speak, breaking my thought process. "Oh, hi, hello. My name is Zinnia and this is my mate, Lorenzo. When we saw our friend here, who's just a regular guy, talking to you, we just knew we had to say hello." I quickly look at Lorenzo wishing I could communicate with him and hoping he doesn't accidentally give the King up. "We just had to." Lorenzo chimes in, shaking her hand and glaring at Kaipo. "My name is Topaz. I'm just visiting from the Lunaria Kingdom. Its nice to meet you." "You as well. I just wanted to say how much I love your necklace. It reminds me of my mother. She had one just like it." The girl's expression changes immediately. "Aretha or Brenda?" she asks, solemnly. I look at Lorenzo and Kaipo and they look just as confused as I must look. "A-Aretha." Before I know just what is going on, she grabs me in a tight hug, squeezing me and rocking back and forth. "How do you know my mother's name?" "Girl, we have to talk. Like now." She grabs my hand and rushes me back into the castle. I have no idea what's happening, but our mates pursue us closely. The girl takes me to what I believe is her room and pulls out a bunch of paperwork. The guys and I stand back as she looks through it. "My mother's name was Sandra. She grew up in the Lunaria Kingdom. She, your mother and Brenda were the only three black girls in their pack their age, so they got really close. My mother died a few years ago, but she left me this necklace. Tell me about your mother." "Oh. My mother died during an attack by humans on my pack years ago. Her necklace was blue. I actually haven't seen it since she died now that I think about it. I would have loved to have it, but I never saw it again. What is this all about?" "Okay, so we are gonna have to go to where she lived and look for it because we need it. By the way, sorry about your mother." She places a picture in my hand of three young girls. The young girl in the middle is definitely my mom. "I was planning to make this presentation to the King first, but I have to let you know what is going on. I am the Archivist for the Lunaria Kingdom and so was my mother. When our moms were kids, a large obelisk fell from the sky and broke into three pieces. Our moms each took a piece and made a necklace for themselves. Now the obelisk that broke opened a tear and that is how the Ihowtons are crossing over to where we live." Wow, this is a lot of information. "My mom told me she made it as a kid, but she never told me any of this. When I asked her about the necklace, she would just say it reminded her of home." "Hold on, how do we know who you are? Where are your credentials?" Lorenzo says and Kai growls at him. "What? I just want to make sure that this young lady is ready to meet with our glorious King." "Oh, I met with Beta Everett a few hours ago. He said he would speak with the King. Here are my credentials." she says, handing him some papers. "Now I just have to find Brenda or whoever has her yellow necklace." she says, sitting on her bed. "Oh shit." "What?" "I've seen it." "You have? Where?" she says, standing up quickly. I squeeze my eyes closed to think back to where I saw it. "In my old pack, the West Moontrail Pack. It belongs to the girl who is probably the Luna by now." Topaz rushes over to me excited. "I'm so glad I came here and met you, girl." she says, hugging me again. "I've been wanting to meet you for so long, it's like a dream come true and you've made my life so much easier. You're just the best!" My heart jumps in my chest at her sweet words and I look over at Kaipo who looks hurt. I feel so bad for him. I know he wanted her to be saying those words to him and not me. 'Just give her some time, my King. She has had a big day today.' I mindlink him. He looks at me and I see his expression fall further before he turns to leave the room.
