Finally, Cindy started her car's engine and drove out to the shopping mall.
She slowed down a bit, as the shopping mall seemed crowded now compared to the morning when she had arrived.
Cindy realized it was already evening and that most people might have closed from their various workplaces, as they crowded the mall and market area again.
She drove her car to a parking lot, parked it, and switched off the engine while she nervously stared around.
"It's my first time asking a guy out. Not even a neat guy! What have I gotten myself into? I think Mom said Jeremy Lukeman is coming over tomorrow to see me. Why can't I just wait to meet Jeremy instead? I hope I can do this."
Cindy pushed her car door open and stepped out, locking her car properly. She adjusted her white suit to fit properly as she strode up to the market area.
Standing aside, she stared at the multitude of people going in and out of the shopping complex. She sighed heavily when she noticed some people staring at her, too.
Her white suit was super expensive, so she knew why their eyes were on her, admiring her, while her heart raced.
After standing still for a few more minutes, Cindy finally walked up to some men who were helping elderly women carry their loads. She realized she hadn’t bought anything and asking about a man whose name she didn’t even know, but only his complexion and height, seemed weird.
"Hi..." Cindy approached a man who was counting the little money given to him by a woman he had just helped carry her load to her car. He shifted his gaze to Cindy and stared at her in shock, as she looked so beautiful like an angel.
"Hi, how may I help you?" the black man in dirty clothing asked, and Cindy tried not to wrinkle her nose in irritation, as he smelled badly, like he hadn’t bathed in days.
"I'm looking for someone. I don’t know his name, but he also carries people's loads around," Cindy said, as she tried hard not to frown or twitch her nose.
"Any problem? Do you have any load that you want to carry?" the black man asked her. Cindy quickly shook her head and replied, "No... No problem. I only came to buy something yesterday, and he helped me, but I just want to see him again to thank him."
"Oh, I’m sorry, madam, but I don't know who you're talking about. Look around; you might see him. I have to go now. I thought you had some load you wanted to carry," the black man said, his eyes raking over Cindy as he quickly walked away from her.
Cindy sighed, finally letting out the breath she had been holding, and frowned, wondering how many more men she would have to approach to ask about the stranger she admired.
"If only I had spoken to him politely. At least I could have gotten to know him better," Cindy said, frowning more. Still not wanting to walk back to the parking lot to drive home, she stood aside and continued staring at the men assisting different people with their loads, watching them sweat as they carried heavy packages.
Just then, her eyes fell on the person she had been hoping to see. Her heart raced and thudded louder in her chest, making her blush.
Cindy quickly looked away as he walked past her, carrying a woman's sack on his shoulder. He placed it in the car trunk of the woman beside where Cindy stood while the woman spoke to him nicely.
"Thank you very much, Mr. Handsome. Do you live around here?" the light-skinned, middle-aged woman asked Peter, staring at him seductively.
"No, madam. I just come here to work," Peter replied casually, while Cindy observed the woman biting her lower lip seductively as she stared at Peter. It was obvious that the woman was attracted to him.
Cindy didn't want to seem rude, so she looked away and suppressed her jealousy, opting instead to listen to their conversation. The middle-aged woman asked, "Really? I really like you, and this isn’t my first time seeing you around here. Can we be friends? Maybe we could hook up, you and I, and have some fun together?"
Cindy coughed subtly, finding the woman's boldness shameless, while the woman's sultry eyes remained fixed on Peter.
"No, madam. I don’t do hookups," Peter calmly replied in his deep, husky voice. Cindy felt relieved that he rejected the woman.
"Really? But why? I understand if you might be afraid of sexually transmitted diseases, but I am clean down there to the core. I will pay you heavily for just one night with me, and I promise you will love it," the woman proposed, taking a few steps closer to Peter.
"No, ma'am, I'm sorry, but I cannot do that," Peter refused. This time, Cindy coughed a bit louder, making both the woman and Peter turn to her direction. Cindy continued to look away, pretending to wait for someone.
The woman glared at Cindy for interrupting her conversation with Peter, the handsome yellow man, then she shifted her gaze back to Peter.
"As I—"
[Cough! Cough!] Cindy coughed loudly, interrupting the woman again.
The woman hissed and smiled at Peter instead while he stood in front of her, waiting for the woman to pay him. They were standing beside her black car.
The woman closed her car trunk and walked up to Peter again, wanting to seduce him publicly. She tried to touch his chest, but Peter avoided her proximity.
"See, I’m a married woman with two kids, but my husband doesn’t satisfy me in bed. I’m not asking you to love me; just one night, and I promise to pay you well for it. Please..."
"No, ma’am, I’m so sorry, but I cannot do that," Peter refused, avoiding the woman’s narrowed gaze, her eyes burning redder at his rejection. She scoffed, "I’m just trying to help your useless life, and you’re being difficult! How much is your fee again? *Tch!*"
Peter was stunned by the woman’s change in attitude, her eyes blazing as she stared at her open palm. She threw the money at him angrily for helping her carry her load, and it fell to the ground.
She then walked away to her car, got in, and drove away angrily while cursing at him.
"Hmph..." Peter sighed as he picked up his money. He knew he had always been bullied since he was younger. It was usually young girls courting him, and now it was married women disturbing him, too.
Peter didn’t like to take advantage of anyone, and because he was focused on his education, he never took relationships seriously while he was in the village.
He had even told his village girlfriend to move on with her life and marry someone else available, as he wasn't yet ready to settle down with her.
Peter dusted the money he had picked up from the sandy road and counted it, confirming it was all there. He sighed and turned to leave. But just then, Cindy turned to face him, and they met gazes. Cindy had been rehearsing what she wanted to say.
"Hi..." Cindy spoke as she came face-to-face with Peter.
Peter gulped, knowing he had just moved from frying pan to fire. He forced out a response, "Hi."
"Sorry to bother you. I'm Cindy Williams, but you can just call me Cindy," she said nervously, blushing hard. Peter stared at her pretty face, gulping again as he took in her white sparkling suit from head to toe in shock.
Cindy looked stunning and breathtakingly sophisticated in her white suit and trousers that matched her black high-heeled shoes. He asked, "Yes... How may I help you?"
