Chapter 10

Cindy sighed and replied, "Lora, can we just forget about him? He didn’t accept me, and I don’t want to keep talking about him. I’m still hurting right now, so let’s talk later. Good night and bye." Cindy ended the call, not wanting to speak about Peter. She knew Lora would be sad about her reaction to ending the call. Cindy placed the vibrator given to her back into the packaged nylon and returned it to her drawer. She lay on her bed, thinking about Peter again. "Gosh! He's so handsome. Why did he reject me? Or does he want me to beg him again? Hmm..." Cindy rolled from side to side on her bed, unable to sleep. She sat up and stared around her room. The light in her room was still on, so she stood up and went to switch it off, but sleep was still far from her eyes. Cindy couldn't stop sobbing, knowing Jeremy would be visiting her the following Sunday. She decided to search for Jeremy Lukeman online to see what he looked like. Sitting on her bed, Cindy grabbed her laptop and switched it on, searching for Jeremy online. Jeremy looked masculine and dark in complexion, but he only had a few photos of himself online. "He looks older; how old could he be?" Cindy wondered as she continued scrolling through Jeremy's social media timeline, checking for more information about him. After a few more minutes of searching, Cindy grew tired. She reluctantly stood up and half-closed her laptop, too tired to turn it off entirely. Cindy dragged herself to the bathroom and relieved herself before stepping out to lie back on her bed, still thinking about Peter. After a while, Cindy's eyes shut, and she drifted off to sleep, snoring softly as she wrapped herself up on her bed. ****** The following Sunday morning, Mrs. Bola was more than excited knowing they would have a special visitor coming to their home. Her husband had already called her early in the morning to inform her that Jeremy Lukeman was still coming to visit them. "Good morning, Aunt," Esther greeted Mrs. Bola as she stepped into the kitchen and saw Mrs. Bola contemplating what to cook. "Welcome, Esther! How was your night?" Mrs. Bola asked, her face still lit up in a cheerful smile. "Fine, ma," Esther replied. "Okay. What do you think we should prepare? We’re having a special visitor today, and I’m so excited about him coming," Mrs. Bola said. Esther paused for a moment. "Rice would be okay, ma." "Rice? Okay, set the gas cooker and start preparing it while I make the chicken sauce," Mrs. Bola instructed. "Okay, ma," Esther replied. Esther and Mrs. Bola got busy in the kitchen, having woken up early, while Cindy finally woke up late, around 10 AM. “Yawn…” Cindy sat up in her bed and looked at her room clock, realizing she was just waking up at 10 AM. Remembering that Jeremy would be visiting her soon, Cindy immediately slid out of bed and rushed to her bathroom. Cindy knew Jeremy was a business guy, and it would be disrespectful for her to still be in her nightgown when he arrived. Cindy walked quickly to her bathroom, bathed, and brushed her teeth. She stepped out, wrapped in a clean white towel, when she heard a knock on her room door that startled her. "Oh, Mom is already here!" Cindy rushed to her room door, pulled it open, and saw her mother standing there with a deep frown. "Cindy! Don’t tell me you’re just waking up? Jeremy is on his way here!" Mrs. Bola questioned, stepping into Cindy's room. "Mom, I’ve told you I’m not interested in Jeremy," Cindy frowned as she walked to her wardrobe. Mrs. Bola sighed. "I know you don’t want to marry Jeremy, but I’ve told you to get to know him first. He’s a good man from what your father explained to me, and he’s very serious about his business," Mrs. Bola added. "Mom..." Cindy complained, not wanting to hear about any other man besides Peter. Cindy wanted to tell her mother that she already had someone she loved, but she knew she couldn’t do that. "Not to worry. You will meet Jeremy soon. Come dress quickly. Esther and I have already prepared breakfast, and here you are still taking time to get ready," Mrs. Bola gently scolded. Cindy took out her favorite white dress, but Mrs. Bola frowned. "No! Wear something different today. You usually wear white. Something different will make you look cute and sweet," Mrs. Bola said. Cindy sighed and stared at her collection of clothes. "Mom, I mostly have white gowns and suits. So, what am I going to wear now?" Mrs. Bola frowned as she looked through Cindy's wardrobe. "Fine, hurry up. Let me also go freshen up to welcome him." Mrs. Bola finally left Cindy's bedroom, and Cindy cursed as she pulled out a simple white dress to wear. "Is it by force to marry? Hmm." Cindy thought about looking unattractive to displease Jeremy, as she wasn't ready to impress him. "Hmm... Let me wear this white dress and skip the makeup. Why should I look nice for him? If I irritate him, he won’t want me, and my father will let me rest too." Cindy smirked and walked to her mirror to stare at her beautiful reflection. Her hair was woven with a long extension, so she thought there was no need to brush the front. Cindy gazed at her reflection one last time before walking out of her bedroom, not applying any makeup to enhance her beauty since she had only used lotion on her body after stepping out of the bathroom. When Cindy arrived downstairs, she heard the entrance gate open, and Jeremy's car drove in and parked. Cindy furrowed her brows, realizing he hadn't come alone and seemed eager to show off his influence and authority. Cindy stood in their living room, contemplating whether to walk out and greet him as Jeremy stepped out of his car, surveying their beautiful mansion. Jeremy wore a wine-colored suit and exuded an air of authority and power as he exited his car. Jeremy finally strode up to the entrance door and rang the doorbell. Cindy frowned and walked up to the door to pull it open. Opening the door, Jeremy smiled at Cindy as their gazes met. He assumed she was the one his father had spoken to about an arranged marriage. Cindy looked cute without makeup, however as her eyes met Jeremy's, they narrowed at him, as though he were an unexpected visitor. Jeremy was actually expecting Cindy to greet him first, but seeing her just standing there, staring at him with furrowed brows, he smiled as his bodyguard waited by his car. He spoke up, "Hi, miss." "Cindy! What are you standing there doing? Jeremy has arrived!" Mrs. Bola questioned as she quickly descended the stairs and stepped into the living room. Cindy finally shifted aside from the entrance door, still not saying 'Hi' or 'Good morning' to Jeremy. Ignoring Cindy's rudeness, Jeremy stepped into their luxurious living room, even though Cindy hadn’t welcomed him into her father’s mansion. "Oh, you're here already?" Mrs. Bola approached Jeremy, smiling beautifully as she was dressed in an elegant long red gown that accentuated her beauty and made her look younger. "Good morning, ma. How's your family and day going?" Jeremy asked, as Mrs. Bola approached him and continued smiling. She replied, "All's fine. And yours? Don’t mind Cindy; she’s just been stubborn about the arranged marriage, you know." "I know, ma. I understand," Jeremy replied, his eyes scanning Cindy as he took in how pretty and charming she looked.
