Chapter Six

Because she's my mate Those four words echoed in my mind as I sat on the edge of my new bed, staring blankly out the window. The night of the dinner had changed everything, dragging me into a world I was not prepared for—a world where I was no longer just Rose, but Alpha Kyle's property. *Flashback* "Because she's my mate." Alpha Kyle said. The shock was evident on everyone's faces. Everyone's eyes widened in disbelief. Raquelle gasped loudly "That can't be possible!" Before anyone could respond or protest, Alpha Kyle's strong hand grabbed mine, his fingers digging into my flesh as he dragged me outside. The force of his grip made me wince, and I struggled to keep up with his pace. I wasn't willing to just go anywhere with him. This place, even with all its faults, had been my home. He had no right to take me away like this—no right to rip me from my life without so much as asking for my consent. He turned to me with a cold and irritated expression. "What?" he snapped "Why are you whining like a child?" Tears blurred my vision "You're scaring me." He scoffed "I scare a lot of people. I certainly won't change for you." His words were like a slap in the face. I barely managed to choke out a question. "Where are you taking me?" "To my house," he snapped. "But... why?" "Because you're mine now," Panic spread within me, and I pulled back against his grip. "B-but I don't wanna go." He stopped abruptly, turning to face me with a look that made my blood run cold. "Listen here," he began "I will not tolerate disobedience from you. You have to behave. If not, I don't care if you're my mate—I will treat you worse than an omega. You will serve me for as long as I live and do as I say. Do you understand?" I stared at him in shock. The cruelty in his words cut me deeper than any blade could. My mind raced, searching for something, anything, to say. But the only thing that escaped my lips was a small, terrified whisper. "Yes, Alpha." His grip on my hand tightened painfully. "Do you understand?" he growled again. "Yes, Alpha," *End of flashback* The memory played over and over in my mind like a repeated nightmare. I stared out the window, watching the sun rise slowly into the sky. I couldn't shake the feeling of unease in my stomach. Alpha Kyle’s words haunted me. He hadn't even given me a chance—hadn't given us a chance. How could he look at me and see nothing but something to own? How could he be so cold? Am I really that unlovable? Was there something so wrong with me that even my own mate couldn't see any worth in me? I always imagined that having a mate would mean love, safety, and happiness. But all I felt was fear and loneliness. The tears I had been holding back finally broke free, trailing down my cheeks. I wiped them away quickly, frustrated at myself for being so weak. Crying wouldn't change anything. What's done is done. The Moon Goddess had sealed my fate and there was nothing I could do about it. I glanced at the clock on the wall. It was 7:10 AM—time to get ready for school. At least that was something I could control. I pushed myself off the bed and made my way to the bathroom. After showering and brushing my teeth, I returned to the closet and pulled out a pink tank top, white jeans, and black sandals. I looked at myself in the mirror, feeling numb as I stared at the girl reflected back at me. Grabbing my backpack, I headed downstairs to the kitchen. And then I saw him—Alpha Kyle, shirtless and leaning against the island with a glass of milk in his hand. My heart rate increased at the sight of him. The morning sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating his body, making him look even more gorgeous than usual. It was almost surreal, the way the light seemed to highlight every contour of his well-defined muscles, making him look like some sort of dark angel. My eyes traced the lines of his chest, and I felt a strange heat rise within me. His eyes met mine, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. There was a spark between us, an electric cackle. My breath caught in my throat. My body became alive at the sight of him. I forced myself to look away, to break the spell. He clearly didn't want me, and I needed to remember that. "Good morning, Alpha," I managed to say, bowing my head. He barely acknowledged me. He nodded as he poured himself another glass of milk. I moved to the fridge, pulling out a bottle of water, but I could feel his eyes on me, burning holes into my back. "What are you wearing?" he demanded. I froze, not knowing what to say. "Uh... clothes, Alpha," I replied. He growled "I'm aware of that. Don’t be rude." My heart sank, and I stared down at the floor, blaming myself for speaking without thinking. "I'm sorry, Alpha," I murmured. "Look at me when I'm talking to you," he demanded. I obeyed, meeting his piercing blue eyes. It felt like he could see right through me. "I do not appreciate you exposing your body," he said coldly. "Go upstairs and change." I looked down at myself in confusion. I wasn't exposed—it's just a tank top. But before I could voice my thoughts, he was in front of me in a flash, his inhuman speed making my head spin. His hand grabbed my chin, squeezing painfully. I whimpered, feeling the fear inside my chest. "What did I tell you about disrespecting me?" He said quietly "You will do as I say. Change your clothes, Rose." I nodded as best as I could with his grip on my chin "Yes, Alpha." He released me with a shove, turning his back and walking away without another word. My heart pounded in my chest as I tried to process what just happened. Tears blurred my vision as I stumbled back up to my room. I wondered where I could possibly survive in this place where I was nothing but a prisoner. I pulled on a black jacket, covering the tank top, and made my way downstairs, hoping to get to school without another confrontation. As I left the house, I felt a feeling of emptiness inside me, as if a part of me had already given up. The sun was shining, the world was alive and bustling with life, but I felt like I was walking through a dream—a nightmare from which I couldn’t wake. And all I could think was - What did I do to deserve this?
