Chapter 6 Even after a year, Etan’s favorite thing about the apartment was the first thing he’d noticed. All the morning light. Not in their bedroom, thank goodness. That was tucked away on the north side of the building. But the kitchen and the living room and the tiny little dining nook were all on the east side, set under lovely tall windows. Neither their apartment in Chicago or the house here had much light at all, and definitely not in the morning. Here the early daylight streamed in from the time the sun cleared the mountains circling Wolf Branch until it set on the other side, gleaming off the aged hardwood floors. The natural light was a lovely change of pace. The high ceilings kept the rooms from overheating even when summer was in full swing. And the winter sun had supplemen
