The Continuation of Battle Part III

Dreign took a sip of his water as he watched the screen of his phone. The radar sweep is about to begin and if his intuition is right, there will be players nearby his location. They’ve been playing like tags ever since the first blood. It looks as though the players become wary about their enemy players as they probably learned that the player who was killed by an elite assassin and the one who killed him is also an elite. In ten seconds, the scan will start. Dreign counted numbers in descending order from ten and waited. For every tick, tensed crept slowly throughout his body. One second. The radar scanned the region of Metro Manila and showed the players’ exact location. His eyebrows lifted as he saw five players in Bonifacio Global City. One of them being two meters away from him. Seeing that, a bead of sweat trickled as he abruptly turned his head to face the player— “Shh.” The player is closer than he expected. He wasn’t able to make a turn as he felt a whisper in his right ear. The warm air kissed his face while feeling something prodding in his back. Even though he can’t see it, he can tell that it was a gun. Any movement that could deem hostile to her will be the signal of her pulling the trigger. So, Dreign didn’t take any action, instead, he asked. “Are you a player also?” “Precisely! 100 points for you.” The woman replied in a flirtatious manner, which made Dreign a little bit confused. Like can’t she read the situation they are in? They are supposed to kill each other to win huge rewards and yet here she is, acting playful. The woman then moved over to his side and sat in the chair across Dreign. It was another girl playing with an oriental face. She is a pale-skinned well-endowed woman with an hourglass figure who has a breast larger than he expected. She has long blonde hair clad in a dress consisting of a long-sleeved summer cardigan, a black bra, a pair of hot pants, and boots. Instead of having an impression of an elite or trained individual, what Dreign saw is a regular foreigner traveling around the city. “Fwah…I’m so hungry, hey you, do you have money?” Dreign noticed the tone of her words, although it was spoken fluidly, he can tell that she is having a hard time controlling her pitch. Like English is not her first language. “I do not have one,” Dreign said in a neutral tone and continued sipping his coffee as a feint to get his Glock 17. He can’t be too careful these days, especially in this game. Who knows how long will she keep this charade of being flirtatious to him. “I wouldn't do that if I were you.” She warned in a neutral tone as Dreign sensed a gun pointing on his lower part. The gun she was holding was under the table, covering it perfectly from people’s sight. Dreign stopped reaching for his gun and placed his hand above the table. She may have a cherubic expression on her face but Dreign could tell this is not a woman he could mess with. So as a show of courtesy and as well easing the tension, he placed his hands above the table. Seeing him do that, she smiled and signaled the waitress attending the customers nearby. “Uhm…We’re ready to order!” she said as she opened the menu. “Good evening ma’am, please state your order.’ “I want two orders of Chick’s n Chips and a mug of beer. That’ll be all.” The waitress repeated her order to which the girl nodded in response. “Okay I will have your order prepared by our chefs,” the waitress said and left. “You ordered huh? Do you even have the money to pay for it?” “I don’t as I have another method of paying.” Her eyes shifted below, telling Dreign that she’ll pay by using a gun. Dreign shook his head, telling her to not resort to it. But she just smiled at him while shaking her head. “Hmm, so what do you want to miss? Coming straight at one of the players is bold of you.” “I just wanted to talk to someone, especially those who are experiencing the same situation I am,” she said. “But first, let me introduce myself. I’m Kayo Sawaya, just from the name you can tell that I’m from Japan. And judging by your Moreno look, are you from this country?” “Yes, I’m Dreign Saludo. Judging by your body movement for the past few minutes, I can tell that you’re no ordinary woman. Tactical and observant with her surroundings though I can’t tell the reason why you decided to meet me.” “As I said, I just wanted to talk. You know since one of the players died, I realized the game’s seriousness.” “What do you want to talk about?” “I want to know what you will do with the money you’ll earn if you win this game,” Sawaya said. “I will spend it for my family to bring them a better life than I could’ve had days ago,” Dreign answered. “So you have a family huh? Doesn’t it occur to your mind that the last day you see them will be your last meeting?” “Of course I considered that when I participated in this game. And I will do everything it takes to get back to them.” Dreign said resolutely. “Hmm…such determination and motivation. Well if you ask me, I will be using the money to start a business so that I won’t have to do some dirty jobs as I had days ago.” “So both of us have a goal and want to win, and we know that only one gets to win the prize. Why don’t you just kill me now so there’ll be only four left?” Dreign asked with a straight face. “Hmm, If I wanted to kill, I would’ve done it minutes ago. But Dreign, besides me there’s also a player lurking around this very place. I’ll expect a fight later. It’s been two minutes since we talked to each other so probably the players are already making their way here.” Dreign looked around his surroundings. Watching the people walking on the side of the street, looking for suspicious behavior hidden among it. “Ow, speak of the devil. There’s one.” Sawaya signaled Dreign to look to his right. A gentleman in a blue suit was looking at them. “It was the guy I first encountered,” Dreign said. “Me too,” Sawaya said. “So what will it be, Dreign, are you open to making a deal?” “A deal?” “Yes, to get rid of that guy.” She said, “I don’t like creepy stalkers.” “Why should I trust you?” “Because you owe me your life. I could’ve killed you, remember?” Dreign sighed, “Okay, I will help you get rid of that guy in exchange for something.” “What is it?” “After we finish killing him off, I want us to go our separate ways and consider me an enemy.” “I agree, it’s not that this temporary alliance will last until the end of the game,” she said. “So, I’ll be the first,” Dreign said and pulled the CQB under his cloth resting atop the chair next to him and aimed at the gentleman.
