CATALEYA’S POV “Who is this man?” My mother asked me when she saw a group of students dragged him towards the dungeon. I showed my mother a file that has that man’s personal information. “He’s one of Gabriella’s lackeys. Perhaps he could be of help. Grandmother mentioned something about the Enigma clan making a ruckus in this city. Maybe, grandmother, Irina wanted to stop them from getting out of hand.” My mother seems to be thinking about something. “What’s wrong?” I asked. “Cataleya, are you sure about your decision to be a true Volin? I am proud that you decided to follow your grandmother’s footsteps, but-,,” I smiled at my mother. “I’ve decided, and I will change my mind. Besides, I love what I’m doing. The benefit is too much to ignore.” My mother nodded before returning my smile. “Alright. It’s never too late to change your mind. Your brothers and sisters made their decision to pursued their dream. As a mother, I only wish for my children to be happy.” I understand, mother. “And what I want is to be like grandmother Irina. I couldn’t forget that summer we spent in one of grandmother’s private island. That moment I saw how cool grandmother Irina looks. Even though I was just a young child at the time, I couldn’t forget the image of grandmother Irina stopped a bullet using her body.” My mother pinched the bridge of her nose. “Alright, then. Just don’t forget to study for your exams.” I smiled before excusing myself and went to my room. “Any news about the Enigma clan, Cataleya?” I was surprised to see my grandmother sitting on the armchair in my room. “Grandma?! Why are you here? Did you went through my secret stash again?! Grandma!” I immediately went to the bookshelves and revealed my secret weapon’s vault. When I noticed a couple of my precious collections were not in their rightful place, I turned around to face my grandmother, who smiled from ear to ear. “I’m just borrowing a few, alright? When you visit me back in Volin, you shall take whatever you want from my vault.” I raised an eyebrow. “Swear to me that you won’t take back what you said!” I forced my grandmother to swear an oath. This older woman was reluctant, but she agreed in the end. “What are you doing here, grandma?” I asked before sitting on the bed. “I’m here to see you and require something. Your mother told me that you broke up with your fiancée. Why?” Ah, it’s about Rodrick. “Well, yes. I did break up with Rodrick. He’s a two-timing bastard. I’m sorry if you’re having trouble with Rodrick’s family, but I just can’t be with him.” My grandmother nodded. “It’s okay. We can just forget about it. Did Rodrick hurt you?” I shrugged my shoulder. “Well, I was hurt. But now I don’t think Rodrick is suitable enough for a member of our family. His words blinded me, and I let my personal feelings be one factor in choosing my life partner. I am now interested in a girl who just started in Volin High.” My grandmother raised an eyebrow. “Oh, do tell me.” My grandmother smiled. “Her name is Dawn Roman. Although Dawn is younger than me, she had her fair share of life because of her mother, who abandoned her children for a man.” My grandmother smiled. “So you wish to help her? Is that it?” I shrugged since I don’t know what should I do just yet. Dawn and I aren’t that close, but I feel a need to protect her and those cute little children- Arthur and Lily. “Well, I am not one to comment on your personal life, but if you think this girl would make you happy, do something about it.” My grandmother looks at the time before standing from her seat. “I have matters to attend. Thank you for letting me borrow your ‘toys.’ As promised, I will let you have anything in my vault. Just don’t tell your mother about it, okay?” I nodded. “Do not change your mind afterward, grandma. Or I will tell grandma Althea all about your trip to South Korea.” I wiggled my eyebrow as I warned my grandmother. “Oh, you’re truly my granddaughter.” My grandmother laughed before leaving my room. Dawn Roman. Why does that name still linger in my mind? Is it because Dawn’s mother used to work for The Enigma Clan? Or is it because of that girl’s ironclad will to keep living for her siblings? I keep thinking to myself if I should find out where is Dawn’s mother ran off to. Should I meddle in her affairs? “Cataleya- are you busy?” My father said while knocking on my door. I stood up from the bed and went to the door to see my father smiling at me. “The Turner family is here. Your grandmother is not at home. It seems the Turner couple wishes to see you. Rodrick is also here at the moment. Should I call for security? Or should I just chase them out with an ax?” I chuckled at my father’s ideas. “Daddy, chill. Did you say Rodrick is also here? Did that boy bring his parents to our home? What are they saying?” I asked as we walked along the hallways to the lounging area where the guests are. “Your mother is trying to tell them the reason we revoke your engagement. But it seems the couple doesn’t understand English. I was this close to shutting their mouth, but I refrain from doing so.” I hold my father’s arm as we walked side by side. “Did mommy glared at you?” My father sighed. “Your mother is one frightening lady.” That is a fact. “Cataleya! There you are. Please tell your parents that you do not wish to end our engagement. You said you love me. And please think about our parents. They will be the ones who suffer greatly if the public knows.” I released my hands from my father’s arm and kept a calm face. “You let these dogs into our home?” Rodrick and his parents were surprised. “Cataleya- mind your words.” My mother said that, but I know deep down she is laughing to her wits. *** “And then Cataleya said, ‘who let these dogs into our home?’ I couldn’t contain my laughter anymore. My baby is all grown up.” My father messed up my hair as he walked up from behind. “Daddy!” My father smiled before he took his seat at the dining table. “It’s been a while since I meet your other children, Serafima. Where are they?” Grandmother Irina asked as we wait for our food. “Louie decided to open his own architectural company together with his partner in South Korea. Not long ago, that boy told me that he decided to apply for full citizenship.” Oh! I didn’t know that Louie decided to live in South Korea. “As we all know, Beaux and Claire love fashion. After graduating from the university, they both venture to Milan, where they started their brand- Volintina.” My grandmother was surprised. “They started their brand? Without our help? The twins did that?” My parents nodded. Even I was surprised. “For our dear Luna, since she loves money and money alone, that girl decided to open up her own business. Although I’m not a fan of her choices, I’m still proud of her. But mother, you need to keep an eye on her. That girl- we all know Luna tends to involve herself in sticky situations.” My grandmother nodded. “I’ll keep that in mind. So, where is Aurora?” Our parents look at each other before sighing hard. “Aurora-,” before my mother could say anything, my older sister, Aurora, staggered into the dining room. “Speak of the devil.” Aurora waved at our grandmother before sitting next to me. “How many shots did you take before coming home?” I asked after grabbing the back of her collar before falling face-first on the plate. “A few bottles- I think.” I wonder how did she come home while being this drunk. “Aurora- how many times do I have to tell you not to overdo it? Don’t you remember what happened last time when you had too much to drink! We almost lost you,” my mother said while my sister is trying to stop herself from projectile vomit all over the dining table. “I- Wait! I’m home already?” My sister laughed. This woman is a lost cause. “Please do not vomit while I’m enjoying my dinner.” My grandmother warned my sister. But it seems Aurora couldn’t control herself when she gags. I quickly covered her mouth and dragged her away from the dining room towards the nearest toilet. “Oh, sister- thank you for dragging me out from the dining room. I couldn’t help to vomit-,” and once again, my sister puke into the toilet bowl. I sighed while rubbing her back. “What happened to you?” I asked. My sister laughed before puking yet again. “This is not healthy, Aurora. I’m worried about you. Please tell me what happened to you.” I begged my sister. “My fiancé is married to my best friend.” Huh? Aurora’s fiancé marrying her best friend? Wait! That doesn’t make sense. “I came back from their reception. I didn’t even know that my fiancé was cheating on me. Cataleya, tell me if I should stay sober after that man treats me like garbage.” That was the reason for her to be in this state?! “You went to their reception?! Why?” I asked while she pukes once again. “Because I want to throw my engagement ring in front of his face. Also, I want to warn him about grandma.” Ah! Well, I understand why she went through that heartache, but why does she have to make herself go through it alone? “You do know that I am always around. If you need me to do something about that man, I’ll gladly do it. Aurora, you’re my sister. Of course, I’ll help you.” Aurora laughed. “I know, sis. But you’re my baby sister. What kind of sister would I be if I let my sister do such a thing to my ex-fiancé?” I heard a soft knock on the door. “I heard everything. So- what should I do to that man? Should I do the same thing that I’ve done to Rodrick’s family?” My grandmother crossed her hands on her chest. “Grandma- I love you.” Aurora laughed. “I’ll do something about this. Your mother will handle his family. How dare that man hurt my granddaughter like that! Cataleya, help your sister. I have something to do- again.” Wait! Where is she going?! “Grandma! Where are you going?” I shouted when that woman seems to be walking towards the stairs. “GRANDMOTHER! Do not go to my vault! It took me a long time to collect them! GRANDMOTHER!” That old woman ignored me! “Mother!” I shouted to my mother. “Just- just let her be, Cataleya.” My mother sighed. “Can you help your sister off the toilet bowl? That girl is sleeping with her head on the toilet. That’s disgusting!” I sighed before dragging my sister away from the toilet. “Oh my- what happened?” I smiled at Luna, who just got home from her trip. “Mommy will tell you everything. Also, welcome home, Luna.” I smiled at Luna as I struggled to drag Aurora up the stairs. “What happened to Aurora?” I heard Luna asked my mother. “Aurora, please wake up. It’s not easy to drag you to your room, you know.” My sister continues to sleep through everything while I struggle alone. “Grandma? What on Earth are you wearing? Please refrain from doing any extreme activities. You’re not as young you were twenty years ago.” My grandmother smiled when she walked out of my room wearing a bulletproof vest while reloading the gun in her hands. “I’m going to teach someone who dares to hurt my granddaughter. If he dares to play with my family, he wouldn’t mind if I play with him. Be a good girl, and keep this from my wife. I’ll explain everything once I’m back in her arms.” My- my ‘toys’! That woman just took one of my prize collection! I- I am appalled.
