Jamie Nance, that's the name everyone knows. That's also the name I go by. I'm 18-years-old and a senior in high school. I'm 100% gay and always has been. I make it pretty obvious with my designer clothing and choice of friends, which are mostly girls.
I'm also a werewolf in the White Water Pack. But the thing that sucks is that I never get to go to meetings and see the hot boys who are my alphas. I'm always working because I work from right after school to eight. I work at Pacsun. It's not a designer clothes store, but it'll do.
I've never even seen the beta because of all the meetings I miss. I'm kinda disappointed because I've heard that he can be pretty gorgeous.
"Jamie!" My mom called. I walked downstairs in my Lacoste shoes, black skinny jeans, and white button up shirt with a navy blue bow tie.
"Yes, Mom?" I asked, walking into the kitchen. My mom was stirring something in a metal pot and it smelled amazing. My mom was a chef at a restaurant and I love it when she cooks at home.
"How was school?" She asked, looking over at me.
"Amazing, I had English today."
"Jamie, it's really weird that you're obsessed with your English teacher."
"He's hot!" I said.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, sure."
"I gotta leave for work in an hour." I told her.
Okay, so you're probably wondering why I work so much. Well, about a year ago, my dad got killed by a drunk driver. I got a job a few months after to help my mom pay for the bills. I give her half of my paycheck and use the rest for clothes.
"Okay, go get dressed for work and dinner will be ready."
"Ugh, okay." I groaned. I went upstairs and changed into my bright pink tank top with the Pacsun logo on it. I changed from my Lacoste shoes to my Birkenstocks.
I hated having to change my style for my work. They said that I need to "fit in" in order to work there. They said that I can't talk back to customers, which is so hard for me.
I walked into work and went to the back room. My coworker, Katie, was checking inventory on shoes.
"Hey, Jamie, how are you?" She asked.
"I'm fine, I guess. I just want to go home already." I said, chuckling.
"You really hate working here, don't you?" She asked, chuckling.
"I can't even flirt with guys. It ruins the moment when they flirt with me and I have to say, 'come back at eight and I can flirt back'."
She laughed. "I'm sorry."
"I gotta get to the register, see you later, babe." I said and walked out.
I opened the register with my card and counted all the money. The door opened to the store and I didn't even look up at who walked in.
"Welcome to Pacsun, do you need help looking for anything?" I said in a dull voice.
"I think I'm good." A male voice said. I looked up at the body of the precious and raspy voice, but he was already turned around. I was drawn to him, but I wasn't allowed to leave the register.
I waited for him to turn around, but I got distracted by the door opening again. "Welcome to Pacsun, do you need help looking for anything?"
The teenage girl looked up at me with a smile. "Yeah, where are your shoes located?"
I gave her a confused look and pointed towards the back wall, which showed the shoes. It was very obvious to see right as you walk in, so she had to be flirting with me.
"Back there."
Once she started walking towards the back, I looked around for the guy again, but he was already gone. I sighed and started typing on the computer.
"Jamie!" Someone yelled. I turned to look at the door and my best friend, Caelin, was walking in.
"Hey, babe, how are you?" I asked, leaning over the counter to kiss her cheek.
"I'm great. I thought I would come and keep you company. Saturday nights usually get busy, right?"
"Yeah, but because it's so cold now, our sales have gone down."
"Oh, well, then I'll keep you company from the lack of customers."
I chuckled and sat down on the stool while she hopped up on the counter. "Any luck with finding your mate?"
Every day since I turned 18, she's asked me about my mate. It's been two months and it's already annoying as hell. I sighed and glared at her. "I told you that if I found him, you would be the first to know."
"Do you think he's a wolf?" She asked. Caelin was very new to the whole wolf thing. She's human and the only reason she knows about supernatural is because I told her last year. It's taken forever to explain stuff to her.
"I told you this; I don't know anything until I meet him. I don't get letters in the mail that say stuff like 'your mate is human' or 'your mate's name is Eli'."
"Eli, really?" She asked, scrunching up her nose.
"I don't know. I like that name."
"I can see you finding a mate named Alex."
"That's pretty cute, but, anyways, I don't want to get my hopes up. I might find him in two hours or two years. We don't know."
"Don't these elder people know who it is?" She asked, rolling her eyes.
"Babe, listen to me, the elders can't just go around and tell people who and where their mates are. That would take forever. It's a natural occurrence, finding your mate. It's an amazing thing."
"How would you know? You haven't found him." She said with a joking tone.
"Can we just change the subject, b***h?" I said and she dramatically gasped and placed her hand over her chest where her heart is.
"Well, I have never, sir!" She said in a fake british accent.
"Stop trying to be british."
"But british guys are hot, man." She said, fanning herself with a catalog that was on the counter.
"I'm more into Australians." I said, typing up a text on my phone.
"You gotta work tomorrow?"
"Nope, my boss gave me Sundays off this month."
"Sundays and Wednesdays?" She questioned.
"Yep."
"He gave you the most boring days. There's no good parties on Sundays and Wednesdays."
"Gay clubs have parties every night." I said, matter-of-factly.
"I'm not going to a gay club to be your 'wingwoman' and pretend to flirt with girls."
"Then don't pretend to flirt with the girls, actually do it."
"They don't have d***s, Jamie. I don't like them like that then."
"You're such a bitch." I sighed.
"I'm gonna go to the food court and get a pretzel. You want anything?" She asked, hopping down from the counter.
"No, I'm good." I said and watched as she walked out.
I sighed and rested my chin in my palm. I noticed a new shirt hanging up, which I would probably steal one of these days. No one would notice if I write it off on the inventory sheet.
I looked back at my phone, which I'm really not supposed to be doing when I'm working.
"Hey!" Someone suddenly yelled and I screamed, jumping up from my seat.
I looked up at the girl who had been flirting with me earlier. She hadn't left yet?
"Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to scare you." She said, placing a box on the counter. I started to ring her up.
"That will be 65 dollars and 50 cents." I said.
She handed me a 100 dollar bill. "So was that your girlfriend?"
I sighed. "I'm gay, sweetheart."
She sighed and looked down. "Dammit, always the cute ones." She muttered.
"I know, but you'll find a cute, cute man in the future. I can tell."
She gave me a soft smile before leaving with her bag and her changes. I made sure no one else was in the store before checking my phone again. I had gotten a text from my friend Gavin.
Not gonna say I was eavesdropping but the beta and alpha were talking in the courtyard and the beta said that some guy that worked at Pacsun was kinda cute!!!! babe, was it you???
I sighed. Maybe it was the guy that came in earlier, but I never saw his face and I've never once seen the beta. Don't know, Gav. Maybe, didn't get to see some guys face that came in earlier. See you later, bby
I sighed and put my phone in my pocket. If only I had seen that guys' face...
