Chapter 21

603 Words
Jacob’s P.O.V After Bella left, I headed to Sam’s. Arriving at Sam’s, I spotted him in the kitchen with the boys. Sam turned around, surprised by my presence. “Jacob, why are you here? I thought you had to leave,” he inquired. “Yeah, but something came up.” “What is it?” I walked outside, and Sam followed me. “Well, I went to Charlie’s to find my dad, and I ran into Bella. She said the Volturi are coming a little early,” I responded. Sam sighed. “Jacob, we help the Cullens only for a reason,” Sam clarified. “What kind of reason would that be?” “If you imprinted on their child or something, we would help protect your imprintee.” “But I have a different reason, and you promised to help.” “We did. However, there must be a logic to it. It’s my rule in my pack.” “Well, Bella wants me to protect her kid.” “Why?” “Because she trusts me, and she doesn’t want me to fight.” “Oh.” “So, are you going to help?” “Sure,” “Thank you.” “You’re welcome.” As Sam headed inside, I had another thing to discuss with him. “I have something to tell you, not sure if it’s true,” I mentioned. Sam gazed at me, curious. “What is it? I might know,” he offered. “Okay, well, this morning, I was holding their child and there was a connection between us when she looked at me. I don’t know if it is imprinting on her or something else.” “Oh, that’s weird. It may be a sign that the baby is the one you imprinted on.” “You think so?” “Yep, well, I must go now, Jacob. See you.” “See, ya.” I must inform Seth and Leah. I ran into the woods and transformed into a wolf to find them. Bella’s P.O.V When I arrived home, laughter from the upper floor filled the air. Hurrying up the stairs, I entered the living room, where everyone stared at the floor. When I looked down, I saw Renesmee crawling on the floor. Her accomplishment surprised me. I felt an overwhelming sense of pride. I joined Edward, asking, “How did this happen?” “I’m not sure. I put Renesmee down, and she began crawling,” Edward explained. “Wow, that’s amazing.” Edward wrapped his arm around me, and I nestled close. “She’ll be walking soon,” he whispered. “I know,” I said. I heard howling outside. I detached myself from Edward’s chest, lifting his arm to free myself. Edward gazed at me, worried. “What’s the matter?” he inquired. “I heard something,” I responded. Hearing it again, the urgency in the noise drove me from my seat towards the door. When I stepped outside, my eyes locked on the majestic sight of a wolf in the distance. Jacob stood out because of his thick, furry coat. I couldn’t talk to him because he was a wolf, but his intense gaze suggested he had something to say. “Hey Jake, I assume you need to talk to me,” I said. Jacob nodded, his werewolf’s head tilting in acknowledgment. “Well, shift back, and I’ll see you inside,” I said. I headed back inside. As I walked away, I could hear Jacob’s footsteps fading into the distance. He ran into the woods to shift.
