Chapter 6Nash couldn’t see anyone outside the kitchen window. Despite the daylight, his first thought had been Gilbert, but his brain was slowly catching up with him, telling him it couldn’t be Gilbert. He scanned the garden one more time—there was nothing out there, and there was nothing inside. He would have heard or smelled it if there was. How could he defend Arlo if he couldn’t see the threat?
