Chapter 5 Although she was just a lowly farm girl, she had seen handsome men before but this Lycan king was like none she had ever seen. The altar was brightly lit with flame torches so she could see the king. The moon also shined gallantly in the sky. He had strong long legs that were as taunt as his upper body; his arms muscles were strong and defined, giving him an intimidating presence that was impossible to ignore. And his skin was pale gold that shimmered from the flame torch light. His abs were nearly arranged above each other, looking like small square stone tablets. His face looked like it had been carved out of stone, smooth and flawless with a flinty jawline. He had a hawkish nose sitting above thin ruddy lips. His hair was black as night, reaching his towering neck. They were partially wavy and wet with a few strands falling down his eyebrows to his chin. His long lashes batted sluggishly as he stared at the frozen Aurora. His eyes were as dark as his hair but the outer layer of his eyes was spotlessly white making his black eye more bright. The only flaw on his face was an almost invisible claw scar on his right eye. Aurora was shoved forward, breaking her out of the trance the king's looks put her in. She stumbled but the lycan caught her in time, and then he let her fall on her knees after giving her one serious look. "Begin the ritual, Sarina," he grumbled then changed his face from a frown. The witch obeyed, steeling herself against the Lycan's cold gaze. Aurora sniffled as she wiped her tears. She knew she was not the most aesthetically pleasing girl in the world but now she felt even more unattractive. Her siblings always made her feel like less of a human because of her smallish nature. However, her sisters were jealous of her petite face. In one word, she was a damsel. No one even pulled Aurora up as the witch began chanting some incomprehensible things that she couldn't understand. The whole chanting ritual lasted for a couple of minutes before the Lycan king pulled Aurora up by her hair. She screamed and tried to break free from his grip but was slapped by one of the female lycan maids that escorted her to the altar. Her head spun to the side from the aggressive force of the slap. Little did she know that the lycan female didn't exact her normal strength on her. "Stay still in the presence of the king," the maid spat remorselessly. Struggling to comprehend the sudden violence, Aurora could only obey. She could already imagine the beast king's temper. She felt so lightheaded that she didn't even notice when the lycan king's fingers slipped out of her hair. Her hand was roughly pulled away from her body and entangled with another twice the size of her small fingers. A sharp razor tore through the flesh of her palm, making her shriek. She tried to separate her hand from the lycan king's, but he wouldn't let her. His palm was also cut and his blood mixed with Aurora's own. It flowed into a golden cup that Sarina held in her hands. "Take your vows, my king," she said softly with a bow. "I, King Saint Moran, hereby accept and take ..." The lycan king Saint glanced at Aurora and asked what he should have asked ages ago, "What is your name?" Aurora, whose head was smudged in confusion, did not respond immediately, which forced the king to squeeze her hand harshly. "I... I am Lucia Men—" Before Aurora could finish introducing herself, the king continued, "I King Saint Moran, sovereign ruler of lycans hereby accept you, Aurora as my mate and Luna as my kingdom." The crowd around them cheered loudly after Saint finished speaking. They became quiet again as they waited for Aurora to say her part. She could feel their eyes on her which only made her skin crawl. She didn't know she was expected to return the vow, so she moped at the witch. "Say the vows!" Saint yelled at her making her jerk in shock. Aurora tried to swallow, her throat thick with tears, and nervously began to speak. "I—I Lucia," she started with a stutter, "I Lucia Mendez, hereby take you, King Saint, as my mate and Luna—" she didn't finish her sentence before the brutal crowd around her erupted in laughter but the lycan king wasn't laughing. She refused to use her first name because reality, she never consented to this arrangement. He lifted a fist into the air and the crowd instantly fell silent. He looked coldly at Aurora and said between his teeth, "I am your king, not your Luna." Aurora gulped as she felt urine slip out of her. She rephrased her sentence and finished the vows then the witch chanted another spell. Sarina gave the golden cup to Saint who drank from it. He tried to feed Aurora but she recoiled her head making him glare at her. "Drink," he ordered. Aurora glanced uncertainly at the cup, her brow furrowed as she looked up at Saint. She was aware that the liquid in the cup was their blood so she felt irritated and threw her head to the side. The lycan king was not patient. He freed his hand from Aurora's hand and held her head in place, forcing her to drink the rest of the blood. After she drank the blood, a ring of golden light burned around her forefinger which signified the sealing of their marriage contract. The crowd cheered excitedly then out of the blue, the moon turned blue. The Lycans could only assume that the goddess had lifted their curse. They cheered and partied till dawn. Meanwhile, their King had an eruptive night with his newlywed bride. Aurora's parents were sent off the next day and warned never to return because they weren't welcomed in the Lycan territory. Life didn't get any better for Aurora in this upscale place. Her husband and king never cared about the abuse she received from his lovers. The lycan females in his court attacked Aurora multiple times without reason because she had taken the place they all wanted. Saint only cared about having s*x with her every night until she couldn't move her bones. It was a life Aurora found even worse than the one she had before. On a special night after witnessing the Lycan king's brutality, she made a decision that she had been too scared of making. "I must leave this place no matter the cost," she said. She was determined to take the risk and start anew; it was a decision she had to make for a better future.
