I scrambled to my feet as the sound of scuffling and low groans replaced the chirping crickets. Beth shrieked. The high pitch shrill reverberated around me. She yelled again but deeper and angrier. I stood motionless by the unexpected attack. Frozen to the earth, my eyes followed the dark shapes struggling on the ground. While I could not see Beth"s assailant my imagination drew several pictures, from maniacal villains to blood thirsty beasts. ”Help!” Beth gasped. Her voice snapped me out from fear and in to action. A big piece of wood that lay beside me became my focus. The dying glow of the campfire guided my urgent hands. Seconds later they bumped into the rough object, the log solid and heavy in my grasp. I raised the large piece of wood above my head and hesitated. Which one is Beth
