Alice's POV
The moment I saw Violet's lifeless body, I had to leave. It was a coward move, but it hurt too much. Landon held my hand and walked me pack to the Blood Moon packhouse. As soon as we entered, I went to the nursery and picked up my baby nephew, Benjamin. As I sat on the rocking chair, I finally let the tears free. Landon also had tears in his eyes, but he was trying to hold them back. "Your mommy loved you so much." I speak softly to the baby.
"Alice. I have contacted our men and sent some of the best warriors to track any other threats in the woods. I doubt the hunter was working alone." I simply nod at him as a thank you.
Why would anyone want to kill my sister? If a hunter saw two wolves, he would want to take out the larger one first. I have a bad feeling that Violet was intentionally the target. "Landon, can you get someone to look into the identification of that hunter?" He nods as his eyes glaze over. Being the king and queen, we have the ability to link with anyone we want to.
"One of the men from this pack is going to look into it and get back to us shortly." My mate informs me. It doesn't take long before someone enters the nursery. I was expecting it to be one of the men with information, but it's Megg. She looks like a mess, just as I am.
"Sorry, I'll come back. I just wanted to check on Benny." She starts to turn around, but I speak up. "Megg. Please, stay." She looks back at me and nods. Grabbing a chair and sitting beside me, she strokes Benny's cheek. "I am so sorry for yours and your family's loss." She says quietly, but I hear her.
"It's not fair. She didn't deserve this." I agree with her, but I don't say anything. My chest aches. I want my sister back.
We remain silent and just sit here for awhile. I honestly have no idea how much time passes before I hear an urgent voice in my mind. "Please report to room 307 immediately!" It's the pack doctor and my heart begins to race. What could possibly be so urgent to disturb a grieving family? Apparently, Megg and Landon received the same link. I carry Benny and we all rush to the pack hospital room.
As we get there, I see that Chris, his parents, my parents, Alex, and Noah have all rushed to get here as well. What the hell is going on? Chris's eyes widen as he looks at all of us. "Do you smell that?!" He exclaims, and I take a sniff in the air. It's Violet's scent. With that, I grab the door handle and swing it open.
Holy s**t. I must be dreaming.
Violet is sitting in the bed, with a huge smile on her face.
What? How?
"May I have some privacy with my family for a bit?" She sweetly asks the medical staff that's currently in the room. Of course, they agree, and exit the room. The tell her to hit the call button if she needs them.
My heart is racing. I can't believe what I'm seeing. It can't be real. I saw her. I saw her dead body in the woods. There's no way anyone, wolf or not, can survive a bullet straight through the heart. Especially a silver one.
I feel Landon squeeze my hand and I feel a bit calmer from his touch. I look at my family and friends, waiting for someone to speak first.
"Please, take a seat everyone." Violet continues to smile at us as she instructs us to get comfortable. We all do as she asks, shock written on everyone's face.
Chris is the last one standing in the door frame still.
"Violet." He sobs out her name and rushes to her side. He sits on the bed next to her and gently kisses her, not caring that anyone else is in the room. It really is a sweet moment. I look around the room and notice I'm not the only one with tears streaming down my face.
"Okay, I have to ask. Violet, what happened? How are you here with us right now? Not that I'm complaining." I'm not surprised that it's Megg to ask her the question that we are all wondering.
"I did, indeed, die. I didn't know where I was at first, but then I met Selene." I let out a gasp, along with others in the room.
"The moon goddess herself?" My dad asks for reassurance.
"Yes. She is just as beautiful and kind as we read about. I- I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but I want to tell you all the truth. She told me that I'm the one she chooses to carry the future moon goddess." Leave it to Violet to be worried about our feelings because of something she is worthy of.
I hold my laugh back as I see the look on Chris's face. He turns pale with a look of shock. However, laughter does indeed fill the room from Jackson and Kevin.
"Son, this is a good thing!" Jackson exclaims to Chris. "Yes, I can't believe we are going to be the grandfathers of the freaking moon goddess!"
Violet becomes serious all of a sudden. "I am thrilled you all are taking the news well, but I don't want this information leaving this room. If anyone finds out about it, Chris and I, along with Benny, would have a huge target on our backs."
"You have our word. Nobody is to speak of this." Landon stands and states, looking at everyone in the room to make sure they understand his order. He's the king, so they must obey. Every room in the hospital is sound proof, so I know nobody can hear us, even with wolf hearing. So, if this information were to leak out, it would be from one of us.
"Thank you." Violet smiles sincerely.
