It was the most important ceremony of the century. Their wedding was not only the union of two Royal Families, but also the first interaction from a closed country and a traditional kingdom. While Romeodel shut its borders as it was a highly advanced country when it comes to technology, Sanjolia was a traditional country in a sense that they had never sought the help of other countries. Thus, the marriage of its leaders became the talk of the people, and the whole world noticed.
Other countries had even sent congratulatory messages, but Adelia thinks that these were layered with jealousy and veiled interest. Who wouldn't get jealous when a rich and powerful country like Romeodel suddenly agrees to unite with another country, something that they tried to do for years and years?
This is why Adelia was not surprised anymore that the two of them became the headlines in every country's breaking news. From tv stations, magazines, and even on the Internet, their faces were plastered and have been viewed by millions of people. And she had no time to even take a peek as to what journalists all over the world have written about her or her decision to marry the young King of their neighboring country. The changes that she was expecting after getting married to the ruler of a superior country were now happening to her and she feared that she couldn't keep up with them.
"Relax, my Queen. You're safe with me," King Enoch told her as they got inside the limousine that was now heading to the Border City. Saying that she was nervous was an understatement for Adelia because she was nervous as hell. Before this day, she thought that she could easily adjust to what was going to happen as she knew herself to be adaptive, but this is not the case right now.
A huge wave of homesickness started to engulf her even if they weren't even out of the Capital. But Adelia could not care less. To her, it was not the idea of being far away that got her. It was facing uncertainty and living without her father for the first time. It was probably his father's teary goodbye that triggered her emotions, and she felt bad that she had to remain calm despite her leaving the only home that knew.
"I never imagined that you were this cute too," said the King and now, her husband, which prompted her to stop from crying. Adelia quickly wiped her tears from her face and began looking at the front instead of the window where the people of Sanjolia were still waving at them even if they can no longer see them inside. "You really love this place, huh?"
That was not even a question to her. "Of course. I grew up here. It will be weird not seeing the palace and the people. My father might be a little too strict when it comes to me but I will certainly miss him."
"That's okay. Just think of this as you gained another home. It's not like I will not permit you from coming back here. In fact, we might be traveling from Romoedel to here more often than you think."
That gave Adelia hope. "Really?" She could not believe what she heard because when her father and the King talked over the phone, all they talked about was after the wedding, she will be transferring residency to Romeodel, just like any wife of her husband. She will become the Queen of that country too, so it was only natural for her to feel nervous and feel the pressure of it all.
But it was the sweetest surprise when the man beside him who is now her husband assured her that she can come back here in the future. She assumed that because Romeodel is a closed country, she would have a hard time trying to come back here. But now that she heard what King Enoch said, Adelia was more than relieved. So when the car started moving, she was able to hold her tears better.
"Your father might have not told you about it, but I will also be visiting your country from time to time. And of course, I will bring you here with me every time I come here."
"Thank you, King Enoch..."
Her husband smiled at him again. "Just call me Enoch. I am your husband now. You can just call me by my name."
Adelia nodded, but in her head, she was pondering on what he said. To her, calling him by just his name sounded wrong. She repeatedly called him by just his name in his mind until she felt that she could already get used to it, but she still feels shy about it. That's why she felt awkward and she remained silent the whole trip until she dozed off. She only realized that she fell asleep when she woke up,. and that she was surprised when she found that she was being carried around by someone. She was about to move to let them know that she was already awake when she heard them talking.
"You did not have to go this far, Enoch," said a female voice. "I feel pity for the girl."
"You don't have to feel anything, Ester." Adelia almost shifted in the arms of what she now knows as Enoch's. "This is just between me and them."
"But can you trust them to not divulge anything? I, for one, do not trust that girl."
"Is that why you did not attend our wedding?"
"Yes. I did not want to be the villain in what seemed to be a fairy tale. I preferred staying here to watch how all of this unfolds."
Adelia heard Enoch chuckle. She could feel his breath as he was carrying her in bridal style. His face was close to hers, and she even wondered if Enoch now sensed that she was already awake. But maybe he was distracted by the person he was talking with now. "You act like you are not my sister, Ester. I wished you could have gone to the wedding with me. I was alone there."
"Don't make me feel guilty. You chose this, so you must suffer whatever setbacks you are experiencing right now. But please, Enoch. Please be gentle with this girl. She looks very innocent. I feel bad about her as your new victim."
Adelia almost opened her eyes in shock when she heard that. What does Enoch's sister mean by that? Did she just enter a trap?
