"She is my mate," Arthur said as he watched his mate from Alpha Christian's office room. Elise was still teaching the pups to fly a kite oblivious to an intense pair of blue eyes watching her every move.
Murray who was standing at the corner of the room perked up at this information. His lips turned upwards, happy that his King finally found his mate.
But, the other man in the room wasn't quite thrilled as him.
Alpha Christian's eyes widened. He swallowed loudly, his eyes flickering towards his beloved daughter before settling on his king again, "King, are you really sure about that?" He asked, a tiny part of him hoped that it was a mistake."Is it even possible for a werewolf to be mated to a fox?" He asked.
Arthur spun around sharply making Alpha Christian instantly regret what he had said."Do you think I would be wrong at this?" Arthur glared down at Alpha Christian, clenching his fists at his sides.
How dare he question him like that? Does he think his King would make mistakes?
Alpha Christian bowed immediately, "I am sorry, your highness" He apologized, "It was unheard of. I never knew if that was possible" He explained quickly, not wanting to be the victim of the King's wrath.
Murray glared at Alpha Christian as well. He didn't like it when someone disrespects his King. He took a threatening step forward but Arthur shook his head at him, freezing him at that very spot.
Arthur exhaled sharply, "I know," He said, his tone has an edge to it. He was still somewhat angry with Alpha Christian but when he remembers that this man is a father figure to his mate, his fury diminished. "I think this would be the first one in the history" He added, walking towards the Alpha to sit on the lounge sofa.
Arthur gestured for Alpha Christian to sit opposite of him. Alpha Christian hesitated for a few seconds before going to sit there, "But she doesn't look like she felt the mate bond..." Alpha Christian trailed towards the end of his sentence, not wanting to upset the King again.
Arthur's eyes flickered towards the window again and a sense of longing washed over him, "That is because she doesn't" He confirmed Alpha Christian's suspicion, "A fox wouldn't be able to recognize their mate until they turn eighteen. She won't be able to use her powers properly until then as well" He said, remembering the chat he had with Amos, his royal advisor and an ancient one before he departed to Ireland.
But still, when she couldn't recognize him, it staggered him. Despite what he said to Murray, a huge part of him wanted her to recognize him and run into his arms at the first glance.
"She told me she was three when we found her but we never knew her birthday," Alpha Christian said, gaining Arthur's attention again.
He pondered for a few seconds, "I am guessing that she is nearing her birthday, given that her powers are slowly emerging" He assumed out loud. At least he was relieved to know that there is still time for her to recognize him.
Alpha Christian nodded his head as well, "She would be able to handle her powers" He said to himself, knowing that Elise is a lot more than what she looks like, "She might look little but she is a skilled warrior. She would be able to handle-"
"You made her a warrior?" Murray spoke for the first time since they arrived in the Red Pride, interrupting Alpha Christian abruptly, "She could have gotten hurt!" He snapped, his urge to protect the kicking in. He glared at Alpha Christian incredulously while Alpha Christian glowered at him.
"She insisted and I couldn't say no" Alpha Christian said, turning his face to meet the King's blue eyes again, "I didn't want her to feel alone. I didn't want her to think that I said no because she wasn't one of us" He explained the reason behind his decision to let her train under him.
Elise hasn't expressed to him how she actually felt but he knows it. He could see it in her eyes and as a father, it shattered him. He wanted her to be as involved as she can. He wanted her to feel like she is one of his kind.
Arthur watched Alpha Christian with an unreadable expression meanwhile Murray kept glaring at him. "She won't be able to handle her powers without some help," Arthur said after a good two minutes of silence. Murray snapped his head to the side to look at his King again, baffled that the King chose to not acknowledge the fact that Alpha Christian had made Elise train with them.
Arthur felt his Beta's sharp eyes on but he ignored him, "Fighting skills and powers are two different things. Elise needs a mentor" Arthur continued, his eyes never leaving Alpha Christian.
In other words, Arthur is telling Alpha Christian that he is going to bring his mate with him to the castle.
Alpha Christian understood what the King was hinting, "You're going to take her away" Alpha Christian stated in an emotionless voice but the hurt in his eyes was evident. He couldn't imagine coming back to a home without Elise.
But he doesn't have a choice. He needs to obey the King's commands and desires. And this is something he should have expected. Foxes have mates too but since she was the last of her kind, he didn't regard it very much.
Arthur gave Alpha Christian a curt nod, "She belongs with me anyway" He muttered under his breath. He waited so long for her. He loved her in her past life only to find her in this life as his mate, "I will give you two days to say goodbyes" He added, knowing it would too painful for Elise and her family if he took her back now.
And he didn't want that. He had waited a hundred years to see her again. Two days are nothing compared to that. Besides, if he takes her away right away, she would probably feel like he had ripped her away from her family and she wouldn't want to talk to him.
Alpha Christian let out a relieved breath, "Thank you, your majesty" He said, bowing his head in front of the King is nothing but gratefulness and respect, "That's thoughtful of you" He added. Two days are not enough but it will have to do.
Arthur shook his head, "No. I am the one who should be thanking you" Arthur said making Alpha Christian look up at him in confusion, "You took her under your wings, protected her, provided her needs, and most importantly, you, your family, and your pack made her feel loved. So thank you, for taking care of my mate" He offered a grateful smile at Alpha Christian.
Alpha Christian smiled, "She is a special girl, my King," He said, his eyes flickering towards his daughter again, and found her laughing with the pups, "It was hard to not love her," He said in low voice, almost like he was talking to himself.
Arthur wasn't surprised. It was the bond Elise shared with all of the werewolves. They can sense that she means a lot to them. Thus, they naturally love her and they are comfortable being around her, seeking the warmth she is unknowingly spreading.
A true Luna Queen.
Arthur smiled to himself, "I would like to talk to her" He announced at the Alpha of the Red Pride, "And for now, I don't want anyone to know that she is my mate. It would put her in unwanted dangers" He added quickly, not wanting to put her in any danger.
At least not for now.
Arthur knew that danger would come seeking for her but he hoped that they would have some time to be away from that to catch up the last hundred years.
Alpha Christian nodded his head in agreement, "Understood, my King" He said, sitting up straight.
Arthur nodded his head, "Alright" He said, standing up, causing Alpha Christian to stand up as well, "Murray, please make arrangements to get back to the castle in two days, and meanwhile, please ensure that everything in the castle is prepared for her arrival" He said, looking at his Beta.
Murray nodded his head, "Understood, your highness" He said at once.
"Alpha Christian, you may want to break the news to your family as they are the closest to her and start preparing for her departure" Arthur looked at Alpha Christian next, "Make sure she understands how important it is to have her powers to be trained by someone who has vast knowledge about it" With that, the King left the room in a flash, leaving a whoosh of air behind him.
Arthur whizzed through the distance between him and Elise in less than five seconds, "Hi, what are you doing?" He asked Elise, coming to stand right behind her, startling her by doing so.
Elise squeaked and almost lost her balance at the sudden noise. The pups in front of her gasped, surprised as well. All of them turned around to face the person who had startled them.
Arthur regretted startling them like that. Maybe I should have cleared my throat or something.., He scolded himself internally.
Elise's eyes widened when they fell on Arthur, "Your highness" She bowed right away, "I was teaching the pups to fly a kite" She answered his questions."Guys, this is our King" She introduced Arthur to the pups and they immediately copied Elise's movements, bowing.
Arthur didn't like that. She shouldn't bow down to him or anyone."Seems like the kite is flying too low" He said, looking up at the sky to see a purple kite flying way down low for a day as windy as today.
Elise looked up at the sky as well, her eyes zeroing on the kite her father had gifted to her a decade ago, "It's not windy enough, your highness" She said, scratching the back of her neck uncomfortably with her free hand, her other hand was tugging the thread awkwardly.
She isn't as professional as her father in flying kites. She only knew the basics. Elise hoped she doesn't look like a dumb girl who doesn't know how to fly a kite in front of the King.
Arthur couldn't help but smile at the poor excuse given by his mate. He took another step towards her and grabbed her elbow, twisting her body and pulling her to his chest, "Let me..." He whispered in her ear, making the hairs behind her neck stand upright.
She stood with her back against his chest, her eyes were wide and her heart was beating wildly in her ears."You should be able to control your kite precisely if you do this" Arthur continued, grabbing her fingers gently and tugging them to mimic his movements.
When his fingers touched her skin, he felt some electric currents running up in his arms. So these were the currents all the wolves have been talking about, he mused to himself, smiling softly.
He was aware there are innocent pups watching his every move and as a King, he should set a great example so he taught her as professionally as he can.
Once Elise comes back to her senses, she mimicked what he taught her quickly, watching the kite fly higher and higher, "Wow, I didn't know it could go that high" She smiled up at the kite excitedly, "It never did" She shook her head.
The pups cheered for her to go even high up making her chuckle softly, "I am trying, guys" She grinned at them before concentrating on the kite again.
Little did she know, Arthur had used his powers just a little to lift that kite in the sky."You have to will to go up" He smiled, his eyes held mirth and mischief as he let go of her hands, "There, high up in the sky" He said, stepping away from her.
Arthur is blessed with telekinesis and only people who are the closest to him know about it. It was one of his powers. The one he frequently used to be exact.
She grinned, turning her attention to the King, "Thank you, your majesty" She smiled.
Arthur nodded his head at her, "If you don't mind, would you take a walk with me?" He asked her, looking at her expectantly.
The smile on Elise's face faltered just a little. Hesistation flickered in her eyes as she eyed him warily. Her father mentioned to her that the King is coming to the Red Pride to meet her and she wondered where this 'walk' would take her.
She tried not to think about anything negative and nodded her head after a few seconds, "I don't think it will be a problem" She smiled at him but the smile didn't quite reach her eyes like before.
She was anxious.
She looked down at the pups who were watching the duo curiously, "I will come back again, here hold this" She handed the thread carefully to one of the boys, "Don't lose it" She said to him before looking up at the King.
Arthur smiled, "Shall we?" He asked, holding out his hand in front of her and waiting for her to take it.
Elise bit her lip in hesitation before carefully placing her tiny hand on his huge palm. The size difference was baffling. So are their statuses.
He is the King of the werewolves and she is nothing next to him. Or that is what she thought.
Arthur gripped his fingers around her hand and took a deep breath, finally pleased to feel that hand again in his grip. He looked up at her anxious face and smiled at her reassuringly before tugging her with him, towards the woods leaving the pups to fly that kite.
