Arthur glanced down at his expensive watch impatiently before fixing his hair a little. He is hours away from meeting Eliza again and he wanted to make a good first impression. He remembered how she disliked his formal apparels in her past life and had chosen a simple t-shirt for the first meeting this time.
"I didn't mean to offend you but isn't it a bit hot wearing that all the time?" Eliza scowled at Arthur in disapproval, eyeing the heavy royal embroidered coat that he was wearing, "It's summer for God's sake!" She made a face, shaking her head.
Arthur smiled at that memory before stepping out from the hotel room but not before taking one last look at his appearance in the mirror. His blue eyes held excitement in them for the first time in a hundred years.
Murray waited for his King patiently outside his King's room, eyeing the hotel hallways warily. He hated to stay at places like this, to be honest, he hated to stay anywhere else besides the castle but he would endure this discomfort for his King.
They had taken a flight from the United Kingdom to Ireland on their private jet and landed in Dublin a few hours ago. Now they were supposed to be on their way to the Red Pride pack which is located at Kinvara, a small village at the Southwest of County Galway, Ireland.
Arthur stepped out of the room, his eyes meeting with his Beta, "Murray, is the ride ready?" He asked, walking past him with confidence and a posture that every man out there is dying to master.
Murray straightened his back as he followed behind his King, "Yes, my king" Murray answered Arthur's question. They made their way towards the lobby and eventually out of the seven-star hotel.
Arthur stepped into the car, pleased to know that this ride would end in meeting Eliza again. Murray sat next to him, eyeing his king curiously, taking in what his king had picked out to wear.
Arthur noticed that Murray was eyeing his apparel, "I think it would be best to dress in a laid back manner for this vacation" Arthur said, keeping his eyes straight ahead.
Murray couldn't help but smile at his King's choice of words, "It's just I never saw you dressed like this" Murray said, "You look good in this" He complimented his King genuinely.
Arthur's eyes gleamed in mirth when he turned his face to look at Murray, "Really?" He asked, raising his perfect eyebrow, "You think so?" Arthur glanced down at the plain grey t-shirt that he was wearing, unsurely.
Murray nodded his head again, "Yes, my king" He smiled, "I believe people nowadays use the word dashing to describe a handsome man these days and that word will be fitting for you" He continued, earning a hum from Arthur.
"Why didn't you bring Deja with us?" Murray asked him curiously after a few seconds of silence, "If anything Deja would be able to recognize her in a split second!" He added, glancing at Arthur again.
Arthur's eyes hardened as he stared at Murray making his Beta gulp in fear, "Why?" Arthur asked, not hiding the irritation that he felt, "Do you think I won't be able to recognize her?" He arched an eyebrow at Murray challengingly.
If anything, Arthur would be able to recognize Eliza in a heartbeat. How can he not recognize the person that he loved for more than a hundred years now? It might be a long time since he last held her in his arms but he still remembers how it felt like to feel the heat rolling off from her body when he did.
Murray's eyes widened and he knew it right then and there he had touched a very dangerous subject, "Forgive me, it wasn't my intention to offend you, my king" He bowed his head in front of Arthur in shame and humility, "I was just worried if she wouldn't recognize you" He continued still looking down, not daring enough to look into his King's eyes.
Arthur exhaled sharply, his mood turned sour in a matter of seconds, "It doesn't matter, Murray" He shook his head. No one can understand the bond he had once shared with Eliza, "I would be just as glad to see her even if she doesn't remember me" He said, frowning just a little, "You may raise" He added when he noticed that his Beta was still bowing his head.
Murray let out a relieved sigh, glad to know that he escaped from his King's wrath narrowly, "I have been curious about something for a while now" He said, raising his head, "What if you find your mate after meeting her? What she would become in your life after that?" He asked, he knew it was over the line for him to ask that but he couldn't help it.
He is concerned about the fate of his Luna Queen. He was supposed to protect her and he doesn't know how things will turn out in the future if his Alpha still chose his love over his fated one.
An emotion swirled in Arthur's eyes for a split second and it was gone before Murray could decipher it, "How old are you, Murray?" The King asked his Beta, tilting his head to the side.
Murray's eyebrows knitted together in confusion. Why is his King is suddenly interested in his age? "I stopped counting after a thousand years" Murray answered warily.
The King nodded his head at Murray thoughtfully, "Where is your mate?" He asked, looking at Murray pointedly.
Muray exhaled sharply when the King touched his sore subject. He couldn't hide the hurt he felt at the vacant place in his heart even after a thousand years, "I haven't met her yet" Murray shook his head at Arthur in disappointment.
Arthur nodded his head at his Beta, "I think we both are at a very safe zone to declare ourselves as mateless werewolves after waiting a thousand years" He muttered under his breath, turning his face to the side to look out from the window as the trees whizzed by.
Goodness, gracious, Ireland is a beautiful country.
"But you can't possibly ignore-"
Arthur interrupted Murray without tearing his eyes away from the window, "She would be just as significant to me, if she likes me the way she did in her past life that is" Arthur said, muttering towards the end of his speech, "I felt the happiest when she was by my side hence the reason I had stopped looking for a mate after meeting her" He let out a deep breath, turning his face to look at Murray again.
"If I am to experience that kind of happiness again, do you think I wouldn't jump at that opportunity of it?" Arthur asked Murray, eyeing him pointedly again.
Murray felt a pang of despair in his heart. "Forgive me, King" He apologized again, time, understanding why the King is so profoundly attached to that elemental, "I didn't know the real reason why you were so attached to that elemental" He continued.
"No one did" Arthur shook his head, "Except for her," He said looking away again.
Only Eliza knew how important she was to him and despite that, she had sacrificed herself for him. For the sake of his kingdom.
Arthur balled his fists as a few dark memories flashed in his mind and exhaled sharply, shaking his head. This wasn't the time to think about that. He needed to be in his best mood to meet her again.
Neither Murray nor Arthur spoke after that. The ride suddenly fell into painful silence. Arthur was thinking about Eliza and meanwhile, Murray was thinking about his fated one, wondering when he will meet her.
"We're here, King," Murray said after about an hour.
"Finally," Arthur said, stepping out from the car. They were now at the front of some huge building and it impressed Arthur at how the Red Pride pack had managed to achieve this even though it was a relatively smaller pack compared to the other packs around the world except, Black Alder was the smallest pack in the world and it was residing in North America.
He scanned around the area for a few seconds, his eyes landing on the Alpha of the Red Pride.
Alpha Christian kneeled before his King,"It is a pleasure to have you at Red Pride, your majesty" He said, following the protocols. It is highly important to show the King the respect he deserves and an Alpha should know that more than anyone else.
"Alpha Christian, raise" Arthur smiled at the Alpha and looked behind, "All of you can raise as well" He added when he found a few other wolves kneeling behind the Alpha as well.
The werewolves raised at the King's command, "I heard how you defeated some rogues a couple of months ago, I must say, I am impressed" The King said, offering them a warm smile.
Alpha Christian's eyes held pride as the King praised them, "Thank you, your majesty" He bowed slightly,"Please, allow me to take you to our packhouse" He added, gesturing his hand towards the building behind him.
But Arthur was too impatient for that, "Where is the fox?" He asked. He wanted to see her right away.
Alpha Christian swallowed the lump in his throat uncomfortably, worried for his beloved daughter. His eyes flickered towards where his daughter was helping a pup to fly a kite, "There" He pointed his finger to his daughter.
Arthur followed Alpha's Christian's finger and his breath caught in his throat when his eyes landed on the red-haired beauty.
It is her.
"Elise!" Alpha Christian called out to her, gaining her attention. Elise whipped her head up to look at her father from far, "That's enough, come here!" Her father commanded and she nodded her head at him right away.
She looked down at the pups who were staring up at her with adorable eyes, "I will be back in a while" She reassured them before sprinting towards her father.
"Elise?" Arthur asked, testing her name on his tongue. Even their names sounded almost the same.
Elise...Eliza...
"Yeah" Alpha Christian nodded his head, snapping Arthur away from the train of his thoughts, "We found her necklace with that name so we decided to call her that" He explained quickly when the King stared at him blankly.
Alpha Christian was truly elated back then when he knew her name started with E, just like his children.
Arthur was still watching Elise as she sprinted towards them, "I see" He said thoughtfully.
Elise noticed two powerful men standing beside her father and her steps faltered just a little, noticing how enchanting they looked. Especially the man with blue eyes.
There was something about him that pulled her towards him. Perhaps his handsome face or perhaps the powerful aura that he was exerting.
She took a few more steps towards them, her eyes were on the tall, blue-eyed man as she studied his face.
Sleek black hair was brushed neatly away from his strong, menacing yet devastatingly handsome face. Charming blue eyes were set lightly within their sockets. With a straight nose and luscious lips, he looked like an angel. Too beautiful to be real.
"Elise, this is our King" Alpha Christian announced to her while gesturing towards the blue-eyed man when she came close enough.
Elise's eyes widened and she froze in her steps and gasped, mortified that she didn't bow in front of the King and not to forget she was blatantly staring at him shamelessly, "Oh forgive me, your grace, I didn't know" She said, kneeling in front of Arthur, bowing her head.
Arthur felt his wolf wagging his tail as he watched Elise. It felt like something moved inside of him, he recognized her right away. Not only as his Eliza but something more.
Far more valuable to him.
"Raise," Arthur said, his eyes never her frame even once, "Look up at me" He commanded, impatiently.
Red, straight hair slightly covered her beautiful face. Captivating amber eyes, set gracefully within their sockets as she looked up at him in wonder and curiosity. Her fair skin complimented her eyes. Her nose was cute and her lips were plump.
She looked like Eliza but at the same time, she didn't. There was one prominent difference between the two of them. Eliza had curly hair but Elise's tresses were straight, sleek, and soft.
Standing in front of him was his mate. The one who is destined to rule the kingdom next to him. No wonder why he had such a connection with Eliza. She was destined to be within her next life.
What disappointed him was, Elise doesn't look excited to find her mate."You don't recognize me" Arthur said, his lips turned down into a frown.
Elise didn't recognize him as her lover from her previous life. Not only that, she doesn't recognize him as his mate as well.
How is that possible? Is it because she is a fox?
Elise's eyebrows knitted together and she stole a glance at her father who was watching her worriedly, "I am sorry have we met before your majesty?" She asked him politely, wondering why he would say that to her unless he met her before.
She watched his blue eyes harden just a little but he didn't answer her question. He continued to stare at her for a few more minutes making her squirm uncomfortably under his scrutinizing gaze.
Murray stiffened behind his King, watching the both of them in interest. In fact, everyone who was present at the scene was watching the King and the fox staring at each other in interest and curiosity.
Arthur was the first one to look away while Elise blinked as if she was only coming back to her senses now. She gasped and looked up at him again only to find him staring at her father.
"I have to talk with you, alone"
