Chapter 1: The Kiss
Matthew's POV
I walked down to the kitchen, shaking my wet hair to help it dry.
"Matthew Laine-Brooks! That's what a towel is for!" My dad, Kade, said with an annoyed expression.
I saw my other dad, Joey, with a amused expression. I call Kade, Dad and Joey, Father. That's how they raised me and I loved it.
"Eh, whatever. It'll dry."
"What're you doing today?" Father asked, typing something up on his phone.
"I'm hanging out with my friends."
"Any in specific?" Dad asked, looking up at me.
"Not that you would know," I said, picking up my bookbag and heading towards the door. "see you-"
"Matthew, come back here." Father said in his alpha voice. My dads were the alphas of the White Water Pack. I'm 17, which means that I will find a mate in two months. My dads adopted me a few years after getting married.
The woman they adopted me from actually had s*x with an alpha, so I actually am an alpha, just not for the White Water Pack. It's super rare, told to me by the elders, but yeah. It's amazing that when I take the alpha position from my dads, I'll be strong enough to fight with my pack.
Since I am the known next alpha, people don't give me problems at school for being gay(yep, I'm gay. Ironic, right?). If any of the humans say anything bad about me, the pack members have to stick up for me. It's like a pack rule because when I came out, I was bullied a lot.
I turned around and faced my parents. "What?"
"Who are you hanging out with?" Dad asked again.
"Just the guys. No one bad."
"The same guys that got you into weed?" Father asked.
"It was one time!"
"Can you look me in the eyes and promise me that it was only one time?" Father asked, crossing his arms.
I looked him in his eyes and immediately had to loom away. I couldn't look him in the eyes and lied. "It's only weed. You guys used to do it."
"Not through a drug deal, Matthew."
"It was only a little bit of money. It was out of my paycheck anyways!"
"I don't care. You are not screwing up your education with some f****d up kids that-"
"They're my friends!" I screamed, feeling my body starting to change with anger.
"I don't f*****g care, Matthew! It's-"
"Shut up!" Dad yelled, getting into the conversation. We both turned towards him. "Both of you need to calm down. Matthew, go with your friends, but we will by a drug test if it comes to that. Go."
I stormed out of the house after grabbing my car keys. I drove to the park where we always met. I saw Parker, Forest, and Jack on the swings talking about something. I put my keys in my pocket and sat on the ground in front of the swings.
"What's up, man?"
"My f*****g parents." I whispered, anger still coursing through me.
"What'd the alphas do?" Parker asked. They were all wolves too and knew exactly who my dads were.
"They were saying some bullshit about me doing weed."
"Man, you are turning into a druggie." Forest joked.
"Shut the f**k up. No, I'm not."
"That was a joke, but you do it way more than us."
"It relieves my stress. When you're about to be alpha of a 600 member pack, you have a lot of things on your mind."
"We understand that, but it doesn't mean that you have to get high every night." Jack said, slowing his swing down.
"I'm controlling it."
"You're spiraling out of control." Parker said.
"I am not!" I screamed, shooting off the ground. My eyes glowing their bright purple/blue color.
"Calm down, Matthew. We're not judging. We're just saying." Jack said.
"It's not your f*****g place. It's no one's! It's my life, I choose what I do with it."
"Actually, the elders do."
"Shut up." I grumbled.
I gripped my hair in my hands, trying to control my wolf down. "Calm down, man." Parker said to me.
"Are we just gonna play like a bunch of kindergarteners or are we gonna go play soccer?"
"Yeah, let's go." I followed them down to the field and Parker passed the soccer ball to me. I've always been super athletic, being alpha and all. I was on the soccer team and I was on the football team last year. Since it's my senior year, I'm taking advantages of sports now.
I watched as Jack tried to trip me by wrapping his leg around mine, but I easily kicked him off. I watched as the guys ran after me, trying to get the ball.
I kicked the ball into the goal, easily making it in without a goalie. Forest chuckled and Jack sighed in annoyance. "Stop being so good."
"Alpha, remember?"
They chuckled. "We could never forget."
"So you excited for your birthday?" Jack asked as we sat in the middle of the field after playing a little more soccer.
"I guess. I finally get to feel the pull of my mate. I'm just hoping I'm not like Isaac and Oliver with the whole two mates thing."
"Hey, don't talk about my dads like that." Jack said with a smirk. My dads' best friends, Isaac and Oliver, were mates. They had a rare special mate situation where they each had two mates.
Jack was adopted a year after his parents were married, so we're a year apart. But Jack is insanely smart, so he got to skip a year of school.
We've grown up together and I honestly couldn't imagine a better best friend than him. I annoy him a lot, but so does he, so it's even. Our parents both hate that we do weed, but they rather us be doing it together than apart.
"Look, I gotta get going. My dad needs the car back and I got a paper to write. Ready to go, Parker?" Forest asked. Parker and Forest were fraternal twins, even though they looked really similar.
Parker had blonde hair, while Forest had brown. They had the same baby blue eye color. Their face shape was different. Forest had dimples, which was why he got so many girls. They were the same height and even the same weight. No wonder they were brothers.
"Yeah, let's go." Parker said, waving to us. I watched as they walked away from the field with the soccer ball. I looked over at Jack.
"How's Isaac?" I asked. Isaac has depression and had to take anti-depressants for it. He learned to manage his anxiety with Oliver's help, so that was good. Isaac's medicine had stopped working, so he was super depressed and had lots of nightmares. It scared all of us.
"He's good. The new medicine is affecting him a little bit differently than last time, but he's good."
"That's great." I said, laying back on the ground.
"Wouldn't it be great if we actually were mates though?"
Ever since I came out as gay, Jack quickly doing the same(super ironic, right?), our parents wanted us to be mates really badly. I always knew I liked Jack, even though I had no idea if he liked me.
I had a slight suspicion that we were mates, but you could never be sure until you felt the true bond on your 18th birthday, which is only two months away for me. A year away for Jack.
"Yeah, that would be awesome."
We hung out for a couple more hours until it got dark. I parked in my driveway and I watched as Jack looked over at his house, which was right next to mine. He sighed.
"I don't wanna go home."
"Why do you have to?" I asked.
"My dads said I couldn't spend the night with you, Parker, or Forest tonight. They wanted to hang out with me."
I froze when he leaned over, shocking me when he met his lips with mine. I pushed him away.
"What the hell are you doing?!" I yelled.
"I-I-I.. I don't know. I'm s-so sorry, Matthew. It just happened. I-I didn't mean too." He said, not meeting my eyes. I watched as he tried to open the door, but it was locked. I watched as he put his head in his hands, shaking. Was he crying?
I unlocked the doors, then put my hand on his shoulder. "Jack, it's okay. Calm down."
"I-I'm sorry."
"It's fine, just breathe."
"I-I should go." He said, then rushed out of my car. I watched as he opened his front door and walked in without looking back. I put my head on my steering wheel before getting out of my car.
I opened the front door, seeing my dads cuddling on the couch together. They saw my upset expression and paused the TV.
"Hey, what's going on?" Dad asked.
"I really don't want to talk." I said, trying to walk past them, but Dad grabbed my arm.
"Talk to us, Matthew. What happened?" He asked with a soft voice.
I don't know what happened, but I felt my eyes stinging from tears and Dad pulled me down to sit next to him on the couch. He wrapped his arms around me as I started crying into his shoulder. I gripped the back of his shirt in my hands.
"It's okay, Matthew. We're right here." Father said, softly. My father could seem really demanding and controlling at times, but he was one of the best people I knew. He cared so much for Dad and me and I couldn't ask for better parents.
"You can talk to us." Dad said, rubbing my back.
I sniffled and wiped my eyes from the tears, pulling away from Dad. "It's Jack." I whispered.
"What about him?" Father asked, taking one of my hands for comfort.
"He kissed me."
"Is that so bad?"
"I-I don't know," I said, another tear leaking down my face. "he just seemed to regret it so much afterwards."
"Do you like him, Matt?"
"I mean, yeah. We've spent our whole lives together. He came out with me. He's just amazing."
Father cleared his throat. "Do you think you two are mates?"
"I don't know, you can't feel it until you're 18."
"You can't feel the pull of your mate fully until you're 18. You can still feel something."
"Well, then yeah. I think we are."
"Talk to him, Matt. Tell him what you think." Dad whispered.
I shook my head. "I can't. He regrets it."
"Matt, let him cool down for a few days, then talk to him." Father said. I nodded, wiping the tears away.
"Go take a shower and go to bed, okay?" Dad said.
I nodded, getting off the couch. Once I took a shower, I laid in bed. I took out my phone, noticing that I had a text message.
I'm so sorry, Matthew. I shouldn't have done that. I'm so sorry ---Jack
