It was hard the first weeks after she left. I figured I had a right to sulk, cry and be a total ass for a while and after my mom and Chase finally had had enough of my crap they yelled at me to fix myself up and be productive instead of a pain in their arses. So for the past months I've been burying myself in work. I was now in charge of the guard and border. Which meant I lead the training of all new recruits and it was a good way to get my feeling out without throwing s**t in my office. It was the 5th of October so the new recruits weren't happy with today's practice which was outside in the cold. I may have been hard on everyone but I didn't really care. If they couldn't survive training in the cold how will they survive a shift on border control? I was just preparing them for the life they had before them.
"Again Will, if you go in with your feet slightly to the side you will be more flexible with any movement." Will nodded as he and Peter when in for another fight. They had been at it for the past two hours and they would be here until they got it perfect. Will lost his footing and fell to the ground and growled in pain as he hit his shoulder on the frozen ground. "What are you doing? Get back up and do it again. We're gonna be out here all day unless you get it right Will." Both guys muttered something as Will tried to stand on his shaky legs.
"Ethan what are you doing?" it was Chase, I could hear his obvious irritated mood in his voice.
"We're training, what does it look like?"
"it's freezing and Will is obviously hurt. Peter take him to Jane would you." he commanded like he was in charge but I was. I didn't have the energy to fight with him right now. "Are you crazy Ethan? He would learn when you're torturing him like this."
"How is he gonna learn if he doesn't practice?"
"This isn't the right way. Have you heard from Hailey lately?"
"Not since she was talking about that exam she had in September."
"It's three weeks ago Ethan. Maybe you should call her. Hear her voice and all that s**t. I think you need it."
"Her class should end in an hour. I'll call her then."
***Hailey***
The first week was terrible. When I got to the apartment it was empty, I had a mattress in the bedroom and the content in my duffle and handbag but nothing else. I got some food which pretty much meant chips and soda for the first night until I felt hunger take me over as I felt a smell of pepperoni pizza from down the street. I fled for I felt so alone and cried until the movers arrived the next day with my things and the day after that I had some new furniture delivered. Getting everything ready did take my mind off of my miserable life. My kitchen had a kitchen island so I had gotten four high chairs in dark oak frame and black leather seats and all the cutlery I needed along with pots, pans and all that stuff. I had ordered this dark gray couch with navy blue pillows on it, a matching navy blue armchair and a black coffee table. I had taken my TV and TV-bench from back home along with my make-up table with mirror and my bed. I don't think I could survive this without my bed here, it's my little piece of home.
Then it was time for our first classes, I knew it would be hard and a lot but I felt so off by the whole thing. I didn't have the energy to engage myself in getting to know my classmates. That part got better after a few weeks when we had a group assignment and I got to know Aaron and Kelsey. Life got easier with them in it even if Aaron reminded me of Chase with the whole protecting and looking out for me, plus they kind of looked alike. Kelsey on the other hand was the opposite of me, quiet and careful but super smart and so kind. It was her idea to invite me to their group cause she had noticed that I was alone. I have never had any issues with getting friends and 'fitting in' but this was definitely not back home in Denver. We grew really close during the assignment and they help me 'get over' Ethan. At least they tried to get my mind off of him and it worked at times but with them being human and not knowing about werewolves and such they didn't understand the love we had. They didn't really like Ethan, mostly because they thought that him proposing before I left was a cheap shot at keeping me. To believe that a 17 year old and a 16 year old would last without growing apart or cheating on each other was hard for them. I had a hard time looking at my ring without breaking down and with Aaron and Kelsey's judging looks at it I had taken it off and pul it on a chain around my neck instead. Now here we are messing around in the cafeteria like we usually do between classes and just laughing our arses off when my phone called. I picked it up and I stopped laughing at the sight of his name on the screen, Ethan. My silence and new expression made my friends stop laughing as well.
"Who is it Hailey?" Kelsey asked seeing the expression of sadness, hurt and love at the same time.
"It's him isn't it?" Aaron asked with a clear dislike in his voice.
"I have to answer it. Something could be wrong." they went to protest but I was to fast. I had answered and put the phone to my ear and stood up before they had a chance.
"Hi" I said quietly.
"Hi" he didn't use more words than me at first. "I miss you"
I felt Aaron and Kelsey's judging eyes on me, they did have a point though. I was miserable like this, apart.
"l miss you too." I said as tears forming in my eyes.
"Things have been weird without you here. Chase keeps getting on my nerves and complaining, Josie isn't of much help to keep him occupied with preparing for auditions for art schools. Did you know that you have to rehearse for six months before they actually happen? I mean I knew it took time to get ready but six months sounds a little excessive to me, don't you think?" he was rabbling on, I wasn't really taking in a word of what he said. I was so focused on what I was gonna say and do. I just had to do it before I backed out. "Hailey? Are you there?"
"I.. Yes.. Ethan I.. I Hailey Everton Reject you Ethan Reed."
