Chapter 10 ‘Festivities’

1217 Words
Keira’s POV Over the next few weeks things went back to normal around the pack house, and between me and Dawson. He stopped drinking like he said, and things have been like they were in the beginning, blissful. Two days ago he was sent out on a mission to help an allied pack. He is returning today after successfully fighting back some rogues. I’m happy he had a successful mission without getting hurt. He and the other warriors are planning to arrive back around dinner time, so the pack is planning a big feast. The Luna and I worked together to plan the entire thing. This is the first event I’ve had a hand in planning, and I’m really excited for it. “Alright, I think that just about finishes that. It’s up to the kitchen staff now to have it all ready for tonight.” Luna Bethany says. “I’m looking forward to it.” I tell her. “We only have an hour before Dawson arrives, why don’t you run up and get ready.” She says. “Thanks Luna, I’ll see you later.” I head up stairs and take a quick shower. I get ready and head back downstairs. I check on the omegas in the kitchen to see how the feast is coming along. “It’s almost ready Luna.” Macie says. Macie and I have become good friends ever since Dawson asked her to be available to me. She has introduced me to the other omegas. “Awesome. Thanks Macie.” I hear commotion coming from the entrance of the pack house. The guys must be back already. I head out to greet them. When I walk out I see Dawson and the guys. And it’s obvious they have already started their celebration. “Keira!” When he spots me he comes rushing over. He grabs me and sloppily pulls me into a kiss. I can taste the alcohol on his breath. I pull back in reflex. “What? Didn’t you miss me?” He asks. “Of course I missed you Dawson. We have a feast set up for all of you.” I say. He turns to his men. “You hear that? There’s food!” He shouts. The men cheer. And the pack does too. No one else seems bothered by their behavior. No one but Harrison. I notice him giving Dawson a look as he unpacks the bags. He doesn’t seem drunk like the rest of the warriors. Dawson drags me inside and into the dining hall. We take a seat and the whole pack joins us. The food starts coming and everyone starts eating. For a moment I think that maybe the food will sober everyone up. But then, someone brought out the drinks. I remember back to the last time when he saw me question the amount of alcohol he was drinking. How the knock on the door saved my life. I look around for Harrison. I see him sitting towards the back, his eyes are scanning over the crowd, a look of disgust sits on his face. He scans over towards my table and we lock eyes, he gives me a look. I’m careful to not retaliate the expression, Dawson might notice. Someone at our table knocks over a drink and the whole table erupts in boisterous laughter. I get up quickly so the drink doesn’t spill on me. Dawson was too busy laughing to notice, so I decide I need to get some fresh air. I step away from the table and head out to the front door. I walk outside into the night air. I look up at the half moon and the stars in the sky. I wish I could be a bird and fly away from here. I don’t feel safe here again. “You okay Keira?” I hear Harrison say behind me. “I’m just worried. That’s all.” He comes and stands next to me. “I am too. I’m sorry. I tried to stop him.” “Don’t be. I know it’s unfair what the Alpha asked you to do. He’s your best friend and Alpha. How could you stop him?” I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for him “But you are my Luna. And Dawson is an i***t. You are the best thing we could have hoped for as a Luna. I want to help him. Even if he can’t see it.” Harrison says. “I understand. You want to stop him from making a bad decision. You’re a good friend.” I place my hand on his shoulder. “Well, well, well. Isn’t this nice.” I turn and see a very drunk Dawson with an angry expression. “Dawson why did you leave the festivities?” I ask. “I wanted to know where my mate went off to. And I found her with her hands all over my best friend.” He slurs and stumbles forward. I give him space and take a step back. “Dawson it’s not what you think.” Harrison says. Then out of nowhere, Dawson punches Harrison across his face, knocking him out cold. Fear prickles up my spine. I need to get away from him. I turn and start running down the steps. I can hear Dawson coming after me. I run towards the back door of the pack house. If I can get back inside, someone will help refrain Dawson. I make the first turn, but then he lunges at me and knocks me to the ground. I am face down in the grass. I feel him grip onto my hair and lift my head up. His heavy body pinning me to the ground. “No! Stop!” I claw at the ground. “Did you think you could run from me? You’re my mate. You’ll never escape me.” I’m trying to get out from underneath him, but he’s just too heavy. I scream, then he shoves my face into the dirt. He grabs my shoulder and flips me over. He’s still on top of me, his legs straddling my waist. He punches me in the face and my vision starts to blur. I try to scream again, but he punches me in the stomach. “My best friend? How could you? I’m going to become Alpha. And when I do, I’m going to declare war on your pack for giving me such a s**t for a mate. I’m going to kill them all. Especially that future Alpha. I bet he had you a few times himself.” What is he talking about. I feel him moving my dress up and his hands up my leg. “Stop it.” I manage to say. Pain burns through my cheek as he punches me again. I’m going to lose consciousness at this rate. Then I hear a loud crash and Dawson’s weight falls off me. I look up and see Harrison holding a large stick in his hand. Dawson is out cold next to me. “Keira, are you alright?” He asks. I see blood on his face. Tears fill my eyes. I can no longer pretend to be happy here. Not after this. I don’t feel safe at all.
