{This is the third book of the series Amber eyes. I recommend you read the first two books if you haven't so you don’t feel lost.}  -If there is no spacing in the words, it is the app. I have edited the books over and over and from my side, the spacing is perfect.- -Colton's POV- “Even at twenty-six, you are an i***t!” Lucien says.  I roll my eyes. “Oh shut up, let me concentrate!”  “How hard can it be to build this thing?” He asks mockingly.  I growl irritated. “It’s not that easy you piece of-”  “Daddy! Is the swing-set almost done?” Leon asks coming from the packhouse.  I smile awkwardly. “Soon little man.” I look at the small progress I have made. “I hope.” I mumble.  May comes out of the packhouse and I welcome the beautiful distraction. I get up and smile with my arms opened towards her. She quickly gives me a hug and I take her scent in.  “So, guess who called?” She asks sounding muffled in my hug.  I grunt annoyed. “Please don’t tell me it was Micah inviting us for the next celebration. Three months is not nearly enough to not see him and deal with his antics.”  May laughs. “I didn’t know that that’s how we would be celebrating thanksgiving. But it wasn’t him.”  “Who was it then?”  “My brother. He called again.”  “Who Matt?” I ask confused since he lives here.  She shakes her head. “No, Marco.”  “Oh, what happened?”  She looks up at me. “It's about the same thing. He is asking for our help. Apparently, there are more of those things.”  “That’s not good.” I think about it for a moment and then I nod. “Okay, tell him we’ll head there when we get our affairs in order here.”  She nods and mumbles. “I guess I finally get to meet the rest of my family.” She then looks at the half-built swing set. “You’ve been at this since morning, do you need help?”  I look away and shake my head. “No, not at all.”  She stares at me and smirks. “So, we should expect this to be done by night then.”  I squint my eyes but nod. “Yes... hopefully.”  She shakes her head smiling. “Here’s to hoping that you finish it before our unofficial vacation.”  I s***k her butt as she starts walking away and she giggles all the way back inside.  “Alaska here we come.” I mumble watching her leave.  ---  (From here on out, you’ll be reading Sasha’s story)  Sasha POV  “Keep running Christian!” I shout.  I look back as we run and see those big red eyes in the distance following us.  We can see the sun going out in the distance between the trees and the ground is covered in snow, leaving only our footprints behind.   We run as fast as we can but we can hear it getting closer.   “Sasha! Get behind me!” Christian shouts. He stops and turns around and I quickly do as he says knowing what he is about to do.  His blue eyes light up and glow an electric bright blue. He lifts his hands up as the beast gets closer. The snow starts to melt, then, blue fire spews from the ground as the beast jumps but not fast enough. He catches fire. Christian focuses on the beast and more fire ignites on its fur. The beast yelps and whines in pain, violently shaking around erratically trying to put the fire out but then it collapses.  I feel relief and then quickly hold Christian knowing that he is going to collapse in exhaustion like he always does when he uses his powers. He slops down and loses consciousness. He can’t use his powers properly because he doesn't have his wolf yet. At least that’s what Marco thinks.  I carefully put him down and get closer to the burning carcass of the beast. It is big, very big.   I sigh. “How can there be more?”  ‘Those abominations need to be eradicated.’ Gaia, my wolf says.  “Yea, but how? We don’t know where they are coming from.”  ‘Someone is turning humans into these beasts.’ She says.  “How is that even possible?” I ask.  ‘You’ve heard the stories, Sasha.’  I nod. “Yea, The Four. Someone's found a way to reanimate the curse... but who and how?”  I sigh and go to Christian.  I pick him up. “Goddess! He is heavy.” I grunt out. He’s only thirteen but he is bigger than most kids his age.  Gaia growls at me unapprovingly. “If you’d train a bit more, maybe we wouldn’t be this weak.”  I roll my eyes.   She wants to be this amazing warrior. It’s not that I don’t want that. We do train on our own a bit but everyone in the pack is too busy to properly train us right now. Neighboring packs don’t like us here since most of our pack members consist of rogues and Marco is not of Alpha blood, yet he is the one leading us. So we have to do everything we can to maintain peace with all the other packs.  I start to walk with Christian on my back, holding his arms around my neck.  “Uh, maybe we could shift and you could carry him?” I ask Gaia.  She doesn’t say anything. I swear I could feel her giving me the middle finger if she had any. She is feisty and demanding.   I suck it up and keep walking. We spent all day at the cave hot spring and it was great, but it’s far from the packhouse. When we started heading back, we encounter the Lycan. A beast that looks straight out of a horror werewolf movie. This is the fourth one we’ve encountered in three weeks.  I continue walking and when we are finally halfway home, Christian wakes up.  “Can you walk? Cause you are heavy dude.” I say putting him down.  He laughs. “Yea, I can walk but, you’re supposed to be an eighteen-year-old fully grown werewolf and you can’t even carry me?”  “I am a delicate flower ok De-li-cate.” I cross my arms.  He laughs. “You are a beta, you shouldn’t have any problems.”  “And guess what?” I say putting my hands on my waist. “Even a thirteen-year-old ALPHA... is heavier than he looks.” I pout.  He laughs. “Ok fine. Let’s get home. It’s already dark.”  I nod and we start walking but not even five minutes in, we catch that nasty scent again.  Christian’s eyes go wide. “Another one?!”  “Christian, run.” I say lowly.  “But...”  “No, go. You can’t use your powers again. I can handle it. Go tell Marco where we are.” I say sternly.  He nods and runs in the direction of the packhouse.  I look behind me and the scent starts getting stronger.   I take my clothes off as fast as I can knowing that I have time and then I shift. When my shifting is done, the beast comes out of the bushes. I dodge it but this thing is big. It swings itself around and meets me head-on.   He slashes at me with a speed that I can’t dodge. He claws my side. To me, this was all a distraction so he wouldn’t go after Christian.  His jaws quickly find my neck and latch on. I know that I have no chance and that I will die. Luckily for me, I have amber eyes, just like my brothers and sisters... well, what’s left of them.  I hear a snap and sharp pain goes through my neck then, everything goes dark.  …  I take a deep breath and quickly sit up. When my senses come back, I hear snarling and growling. When my eyes adjust, I see Marco and eight other pack members fighting the beast. It takes that many pack members to take one of those things down... or one Christian.   I get up as they kill the Lycan. I rub the back of my neck. I haven’t died Since we were with Rowan. I forgot how much it hurts.  “Are you ok?” Marco asks.  I nod and I start to put my clothes back on. He looks at the dead beast with concern.  “This is not good.”  “What are we going to do?” I ask. “They keep coming out of nowhere.”  He nods. “We need help.”  I shake my head, knowing of the help he’s talking about. “What? No, you can’t trust them.”  “Sasha, May, and Colton have helped us for years now-”  “That means nothing. They are not part of our pack and I could never trust anyone that isn’t part of our pack.” I say irritated.  He lifts an eyebrow up. “Well, it’s too late. They are already coming.”  I stand there with a serious expression. “You give too much trust in others. That’s going to be our undoing one day.”   I sprint away feeling worried about all of this.  I get it, they helped us once. But that means nothing. I know firsthand of betrayal and cruelty. I know people's true natures aren’t always what they seem.  When we get back, we watch as doctor Daniel examines the dead Lycan.  He is in his forties with light brown dusty hair slicked back and glasses.  “Most of these Lycans have different substances in their veins.” He says.  Marco scrunches his face. “What does that mean?”  “It means that these creatures were made. At least some of them were. They are definitely humans. But some of them have been experimented on with different substances and werewolf blood. Then they scratch or bite other humans and that starts the chain.”  He continues looking at the new dead Lycan. “They even have different features Like this one has many more teeth than the previous ones we’ve encountered. Probably because of the different chemicals.”  “So, someone out there is making them? Infecting humans?” Marco asks.  “Yes but, they seem to be trying to create something specific because every time, they are different.”  “So these are failed experiments then?” I ask.  He nods. “Exactly.”  “It’s not a curse then?” I ask.  “That’s probably what they used to call it back then because they didn’t have the technology that we have today.” Daniel says.  I nod understanding.  He looks at Marco. “Marco, the best way to study this would be if you can catch one of them alive.”  Marco sighs. “That is easier said than done. This one took almost ten of us to take down.”  “Yea well we need to, I hope to the goddess that none of these creatures has infected any other humans. It doesn’t help that a few humans have disappeared from town. Most likely they have been infected and turned on the full moon. Once they turn, they can’t turn back.” Daniel says.  That is really bad.  Marco sighs. “I should ask the nearby packs if they have encountered any of these creatures.”  I roll my eyes. “I don’t know why you bother. They are probably going blame us for it.”  Marco sighs again. “I have to bring it to their attention that we are also plagued by these beasts.”  “Why? They don’t see you as a leader and they don’t see us as a pack. They won’t care” I say feeling irritated.  “Until Christian is old enough to take over as Alpha, we need to keep relations with them.” He says.  Christian is the only one in our pack with Alpha blood so Marco is training him to take over.  “Where is Christian anyway?” I say cringing as I see the doctor work in the back with the Lycan and blood spews out of it.  “In his room resting... and by the way, you should go rest too. You have school tomorrow.” Marco says.  Gaia jumps inside me with excitement and I cringe.   ‘We get to see the cute boy.’ She says in my head.  I sigh. ‘You better not make me act like a fool again.’ I warn her as I start to walk out but she stays quiet.  I have a bad feeling about the way she acts around Mason. It better not be what I think it is... but I’m pretty sure it is exactly that.
