“What job are you talking about?” is the first thing I ask after Jake left. Something tells me it’s not the kind of business-like job Audrey’s aide filled me in on earlier today.
“You’ll find out.”
“I don’t plan to.” I say, dipping my hand in my bag and pulling out the black card. “I came to return this.”
The earlier I leave, the better.
He looks at the card in my hand uninterestingly before he stands and, I want to stand too, maybe as a defense against him, but he pins me with a glare. The next second, he is standing behind my chair and I feel all my hair on edge.
He could easily snap my head from this angle or stab me in the neck all as a revenge against my father, which I’m sure is what it is, but he doesn’t.
Instead, I see his hands reach out to mine as he plucks the black card out, only to drop it inside my bag once again. “That is my wedding gift for you. Although it failed.”
I ignored his snide remark. “Strangers don’t get to give wedding gifts.” I took the card out once again and placed it on the table. “I’d also like your account details, so I can give back everything I have taken from it.”
I close my bag and stood, looking up at him. I can’t help but notice how tall he is. Even with my heels on, I barely reach his chest.
His chest… my eyes registers on the white behind his dark suit jacket. Tiny splashes of red which could easily be blood were there. And the awful smell just now… Alarms ring in my head immediately, but I don’t let the fear show on my face and I’m thinking faster now.
“I haven’t asked you to stand.” He looks annoyed with his brows pulled together before he pushes me to my seat and I flare.
“Don’t you dare touch me.”
He tilts his head, amusement burning in his eyes before he laughs. “I can do pretty much whatever I want with you. Have you forgotten where you’ve willingly walked into?”
The Devil’s den. Yes, I know.
I knew he planned harm for us and I still came here on my own, alone. Quite stupid.
What if he really ends me here? What if it’s the job he was talking about? I’ve never felt so terrified, but I can’t show it.
What was he doing before I entered? I try not to let my eyes wander in case I find a dead body somewhere, and I’m implicated in his mess.
I stood once again, and our eyes locked, mine in challenge.
“I’ll be leaving,” I declared. Except that we both knew he wouldn't let me leave like that.
Amusement fills his eyes instantly, but it wasn’t the good kind. It was the kind that made my blood run cold.
“If you have impersonated someone, you should do what she has been hired to do. Doesn’t that make sense to you?”
“I don’t care.” I spat. Which is one of the stupid things to say considering I am in his territory, which meant if he wanted, it could be the last time I see another soul apart from his.
In a situation like this, I should avoid infuriating him further, but I just can’t control the words I spit and how much he gets on my nerves.
“Well, I will need you to think again.” His eyes darkens dangerously, making a foreboding feeling hover around me as he gets closer, cornering me into a wall. He lifts my chin. “Now you’re going to do one little thing for me like an obedient little mouse.” he whispers.
A thing like fear is a display of weakness Dad never lets us show. He always says you’ve already lost once you display an emotion like that for everyone to read.
And so I never do until… now.
To be honest, he scares me more than I let on.
The way he’d look at me. Not like a person, but like someone who was going to enjoy ruining me, slowly. I see it every time his lips curl.
And even as he hovers over me like this, cornered into a wall, like he would swallow me up the next moment.
Like a f*****g predator!
I still panic, and I do the only thing that comes to mind.
I attack him with my knee. In a place that I know hurts the most. The force was great, and now I feel sorry for his balls as he takes a few steps away from me.
I don’t waste another moment running out. I don’t bother to take the elevator since I could easily be cornered there. I take the stairs instead and kept going without rest until I was once again in the safety of my car, trying to catch my breath.
My phone rings and I see it’s Audrey.
“How did it go?”
“Not good,” I whispered. “I think I have just fallen into a trap.”
Because that is what this feels like.

Gael’s pov.
Fuck it! My balls hurt.
The little tigress didn’t hold back her strength just now.
Jake rushes in and I straighten up immediately.
“You let her go?” he asks.
“More like she escaped.” My eyes narrow. “She’s not what I was expecting.” I took a seat on the couch, picking up a cigarette. “Send Kara in.”
“You asked me to send her back, remember?”
“Then call her again.” Lines appeared on my forehead. “Unless you want to take care of the bodies yourself.”
Jake didn’t bother to hide his disappointment as he made to leave, but turned around when he reached the door. “I really thought I was going to watch something fun with her. When you force her to dissect the bodies, just how loud she would scream and how traumatizing today will become for her, but you let her escape.” He said it like it was something to be sad about and maybe it was.
Jake left and my jaws clenched tightly. This is just the beginning. We will have plenty of time to make that family suffer for all they’ve done to us. I have a feeling the little tigress will come crawling to me soon and so will her Dad when I finally have his princess under my thumb.
You don’t want to hurt her.
Oh yes I f*****g will!
