(Zaria POV)
We walked towards our destination, but thank god, the atmosphere of the Elf’s kingdom always remains moderate and I liked it very much. We reached there in half an hour and a smile crept on our faces. We happily looked towards the abandoned building and high five before entering in the Coven. I had never seen a coven before but just read about it in storybooks.
We opened the cracked door and entered in it. It was covered in darkness, dirt, and cobwebs. We carefully make our way. We had torches, so it was not difficult for us to look around.
“Zaria! What if there are any ghosts?” Zurian asked in a curious voice and I laughed at his words.
“Don’t be a coward, Zurian. We both knew that ghosts are not real and they existed in folks only,” I tried to give a reason when we heard a commotion upstairs. Footsteps followed after the noise and we both started screaming at the top of our lungs. After all this, we finally looked towards the stairs and a white cat was standing there, blinking innocently with her big blue eyes.
“Ohh! That was a cat and I thought, There was some ghost,” Zurian said, and we both heaved a sigh of relief. We both looked at each other and started laughing like maniacs. We again gathered our strength and started checking the cover. There were many dried herbs present, which were covered in a thick layer of dust.
“Hey look, Zaria! There is an old book present,” Zurian pointed towards the back corner of the coven, and we ran towards the book without any second thoughts. There were a lot of strange pictures present and the book was in a foreign language, so we were unable to understand a single word of this book. We put down that book and went out of the coven.
It was not as interesting journey as I thought, but still, we enjoyed our little escape. An idea popped up in my mind and I looked at Zurian with a smirk. He furrowed his brows in confusion.
“What is going on in your mind, Sister?” He asked and I started telling him my idea.
“No!!! We are not going to do that,” He shook his head and my smile faltered.
“Why, Brother? The coven was not as interesting as we thought. We will not get a golden chance like this again then. Why do you want to ruin it?” I crossed my arms on my chest and turned my face to the other side.
“Zaria! We can’t do this. What if father knew about this? He will punish us severely and what if Vampire guards caught us? We will end up in prison and no one will come to save us as our parents didn’t know about our escape,” I didn’t want to admit it in front of him but nodded with a heavy heart.
We gathered our things and shoved them in a backpack and started walking toward our Palace. I halted abruptly in my footsteps and Zurian looked at me.
“What happened? Why did you stop in the midway?” He asked and I gestured towards a tree.
“I saw someone on that tree. He was looking towards our direction,” I said, and he nodded. We both walked towards that tree slowly and then checked it but no one was there. Zurian gave me a bored look.
“I swear, I saw someone on the tree. I am not pranking you at this, Brother,” I said, but he was not in a mood to admit it, so he shook his head and asked me to stop my pranks. I stomped my foot on the ground and threw my empty water bottle toward the tree in anger. A scream stopped us in our tracks. We both turned and looked toward the source of that scream and became shocked.
A handsome boy was present there but his age was around fifteen or sixteen. We both ran in his direction and helped him. My water bottle hit him on the forehead and created a big bruise.
“I am sorry but I didn’t mean to hit you but…I am sorry, I swear, It was an accident,” I started giving explanations and he nodded slowly.
“By the way, what were you doing here? Are you the one who was present on the tree branch when I looked in this direction?” I asked quickly and he gave me an apologetic look before standing in front of us. He was giving a strange creepy vibe but I didn’t show it on my face.
“Yeah! I was the one who you spotted on the branch of the tree. I thought my father had sent someone to look for me. That’s why I hid behind these bushes,” he explained, and I nodded, as I didn’t notice the bushes before.
“Who are you and what are you doing here? Because you are not an elf,” Zurian asked and, he looked towards both of us before answering his question.
“I am a vampire, but my father didn’t like me. He used to hit me and that’s why I came here to spend some time alone to clear my mind,” He said, and we both nodded but my body tensed at the fact that ‘He is a vampire’.
I loathe their kind and I didn’t know but I was feeling a strange connection with him. Fear started building in my heart and the last words of my Mami started echoing in my mind. I felt like the ground started spinning under my feet and I fell to the floor.
“Zaria! What happened?” Zurian quickly held me and stopped me from hitting my head to the ground.
“I-i don’ know,” he cursed under his breath and asked that stranger to open the backpack and give him the bottle of juice.
“I think this is due to weakness. Sip this juice and you will feel better,” he said, and I nodded. My head was still in his lap. That stranger made me drink a few gulps and I started feeling a lot better.
I thanked him and was about to take that bottle from his hand when our hands touched and I felt strong sparks in my hand where our skin touched. I gasped loudly and quickly pulled back my hand. A few drops spilled on my dress.
“What happened, Sister?” He asked at my gasp and strange reaction.
“Nothing, I spilled a few drops of juice on my pretty dress and that’s why, I gasped in shock,” He shook his head before helping me to sit.
I looked at that handsome creepy stranger from the corner of my eyes and he was still looking at his head. Maybe he also found it weird, but I shrugged my shoulders and quickly stood up.
“I think we have to leave this place as soon as possible,” I announced, and Zurian agreed before we started walking back towards our Palace.
When we entered in the Palace, the guards informed us that our parents were
already waiting for us in the meeting hall. We gulped in fear and walked towards the hall. Father was already present there with an angry expression etched on his face.
“We…umm…” I tried to lie to him but he stopped me in the middle by showing the palm of his hand.
“I can’t believe it! You two can be so reckless. I think I have to give you a proper punishment.
and only then will you learn your lesson,” he said, and I nodded while looking towards Zurian. We started apologizing for our mistake, but still, we got the punishment of seven days. We were not allowed to go out for the next seven days, but still, it was not as tough as doing double training without getting food or anything like that. But, it was still a punishment and the fact was also scary that our father came to know about our secret plan when we tried our best to keep it from every one.
