"WHAT THE HELL, DUDE?" Oscar's hand gripped his fork tightly. They were currently eating breakfast and catching up with each other. There were a few pancakes and omelettes left on the plate. The news about UOFC did not sit well with him.
"Seriously, where have you been? Well, hear this out: most of the omegas are missing. No one in UOFC knows where they are. The committee has been investigating for months," Elliot whispered, so low that Oscar had to strain his ears. It was as if the walls had ears and that their lives were at stake.
"Don’t be overly dramatic; that’s Cooper’s job." He placed the fork on the side and wiped his mouth with a napkin. His appetite had gone out the window after hearing the news. "With how I see the situation, it seems like Tony isn’t managing the company very well, or an insider double-crossed the committee."
Oscar still couldn’t believe what he heard. So that explains why the group was silent—people were literally missing. He hated to admit it, but he felt lucky to get this opportunity to talk with his friend. He was about to open his mouth again when something came to his mind. "How about Cooper? Don’t tell me he is missing too."
Elliot just shrugged his shoulders. He hadn’t been in his best mood since yesterday. "I really can’t tell, Oscar. He had been silent for a couple of weeks now. Even Jason had not replied to my messages."
Buzz!
Just as Oscar was about to respond, his doorbell rang. He excused himself and went to the control hub to check on who had come.
Fear immediately engulfed him upon seeing who was standing in front of the elevator. How did Byron get into that place and pass through his front desk?
Shit! Oscar turned to the glass wall to check on the helipad outside. He felt relieved to see one of their family’s helicopters parked there.
"Elliot, we have to go. The devil is here. We need to get out of this place before he reaches this floor!" he shouted to his friend as he snatched the keys to the helicopter. They should waste no time. He was already running when he took his bag and grabbed Elliot by the arm.
"We can fight him together! He won’t have a chance against us." Elliot cracked the bones in his knuckles to show off how ready he was for combat.
However, regardless of what marvellous that idea sounded like, Oscar wouldn’t want to gamble with their safety. He knew Byron, and he wouldn't want his friend to be added to his husband’s long list of guinea pigs. He cared for Elliot more than himself. Thus, he tried to convince him again.
"That’s a nice idea, but I do not want to ruin my pad just because an asshole barged into it. Let’s go. You remember Jason’s pack, right? Do you still have contact with them? I do not have anywhere else to go," he said in a hurry.
This was not the first time he panicked at the thought of Byron. He might have been fortunate last night, but then it seemed his luck was starting to run out. Byron was getting bolder with every passing day.
Checking on the video one last time, Oscar sighed upon seeing the elevator already half-way to his pad. The brute was already close!
"Elliot, are you coming or not?" he asked, giving his friend a pleading stare. Truth be told, he never wanted to drag him into this mess, but then Elliot was also the only lifeline he had. His family was tied-up with Byron, making his own pack unsafe. As long as their marriage certificate is valid, the two packs will remain allies.
He was just glad that his dad lent him a helicopter when he asked. The old man sent him the most beautiful wings from their fleet. That couldn’t be more awesome.
"Fine! Give me the keys and stall him as much as you can. I will try to start the helicopter." Elliot raised his hand in defeat and waited for him.
Nodding, Oscar threw the keys to his friend, then walked back to the control hub. He quickly pressed the emergency stop button on the keyboard, a safety feature he had installed for similar situations.
In a second, the elevator, where Byron was, halted. The indicator in front of Oscar stopped blinking at the floor, showing that his husband was now stuck at the sixty-ninth floor.
Oscar grabbed his chest when his heart pounded hard. He was getting nervous and he couldn’t keep calm at all. Giving the controls one last look, he turned to the door and sprinted to the helipad.
A strong wind welcomed him as soon as he stepped onto the rooftop. The helicopter’s rotor was already spinning, and its strength was enough to push him back a bit. He fought against it and ran towards the vehicle. Joining Elliot in the cockpit, Oscar then glanced back at his pad. His place looked like a mess with their plates still on the dining table.
With a scowl on his face, he turned to Elliot and said, "Let’s go. Byron will figure out that we are together soon. A minute from now, the elevator will start working."
His friend just nodded his head. A few more seconds and the helicopter started moving up. It was slow at first, but then got its momentum shortly.
"I will assist you, Elliot. You can just plot our destination on that map in the dashboard." Oscar pointed to the dozens of buttons in front of them after wearing his aviation headset. "Once you mark the place, this helicopter can be put on auto-pilot."
"Roger that!" Elliot nodded and started entering commands on the computer. He stirred their helicopter towards the Hudson River, aiming to cross it so they could reach New Jersey.
The river was calm as their ride flew above it. It was the opposite of Oscar's emotions as he sat steadily inside that cockpit.
Ding!
[Have a safe trip, love. I will find you no matter where you are! - Byron.]
Oscar frowned more upon seeing who had just sent him a message. How dare that jerk say that? Constant messages from Byron were like little reminders that he was stuck with each other for as long as they lived. If only he had the strength to fight him back, he would. However, all his training inside the ring was still useless because he was no match for Byron’s alpha wolf.
"What’s with that angry face?" Elliot was busy reading through the control panel when he turned his head and noticed him frowning.
"Nothing. I am glad to have found you, Elliot. I have been in a nightmare for far too long. It feels good to be finally free." Oscar emphasised the last word. His life had never been perfect since the beginning, but then, the things he went through in the last five years were the worst. His escape today was a blessing. In contradiction to what he thought earlier, it seemed like luck was still on his side.
He slumped back in the chair and let Elliot pilot the aircraft. It was a comfortable ride, even for the pilots, as the seats were spacious and soft. There was no problem with legroom at all.
"Don’t worry too much, Oscar. I got your back." His friend smiled. "I just hope that Alpha George accepts us into his pack once we get there. I'm not sure about Jason because we barely talk these days and he has three kids to raise and a pack to run."
Jason’s life was a stark contrast to Oscar's. While his ex-lover had found a quiet life, his life had been toxic. It had only been days since he got away, trying to find his true purpose in life.
"I am happy he got what he dreamed of." Oscar forced himself to smile back. Nodding, he then added, "He deserves nothing less than that."
"True. Nonetheless, I just hope Jason is safe. I haven’t checked on him in a while. As for Cooper, he went out with a girl a few weeks ago, and that's where it ends. I have never heard from him since." Elliot was the oldest of them, and naturally, he became their big brother. Taking care of them and worrying about them became Elliot's everyday business.
"Hey! Why don't we take this helicopter for a speed test? You know, just to surprise Byron and see if he could still catch up," Oscar said while pushing the cyclic forward for maximum speed.
