Prologue
OSCAR GRANDE was the only child of the Grande family to obtain an omega as a secondary gender. He had five other siblings, but all of them inherited their father's Alpha gender. Today was his wedding to Alpha Byron, one of the most prominent bachelors among the werewolves. His father had arranged this union in the hope that his son would have a happy life. It wasn't like Oscar wasn't capable of finding love; in fact, he even had a boyfriend before this marriage was arranged. "Are you ready?" His father stood behind him while inspecting his tuxedo. It took him five conversations with the old man before the old man agreed to that colour. He chose grey, a shade that best represents his mood for the day; gloomy with a dash of bitterness on the side, and he wanted to make sure that everyone would see it. "I will never be, but let’s get this over with." Oscar shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe I can file for a divorce after a year, or better yet, an annulment," he even casually added. He had protested against his father's will multiple times. Never did it cross his mind that he would be forced to marry someone he didn’t even love. The worst thing about the situation was that Alpha Byron was a "chosen mate" and not even his "true mate". Which meant, the man picked him without even a slight tinge of attraction between them. "Watch your tongue, young man. This is for your own good. You may never find your mate at the rate you are going at. You have been putting yourself in danger at every chance you get," his father huffed in dismay. "I am happy enough that someone was willing to marry you. Now put on a smile, and let's go. Your mother would be very upset if you ruined this beautiful celebration she put so much effort into." "I am already going, aren’t I?" Can you please stop lecturing me for a second?" Oscar bolted out of his room and went straight to the live band playing music. His mother had transformed their mansion into a venue for a dream wedding. He and his husband would be saying their I do’s with the vineyard as their backdrop. He’d be thrilled to entertain their guests if only it was Jason who was marrying him. It was unfortunate that he landed with Alpha Byron—the cockiest jerk in werewolf history. They had only seen each other couple of times since their engagement went public. And Byron? He was a prima donna who thought everyone should serve and take care of him because he was an alpha. "There you are, Oscar! Come. The ceremony is about to start." His mother dragged him to the side of the patio, which, in the meantime, was full of guests mingling with each other. "Where are Tony, Drey, and Arvin? Aren't they supposed to be part of my entourage?" he inquired, hoping that doing so could divert his attention for a while from what was about to happen. "They are already at the front of the altar, waiting for you," his mother replied, gripping his hand tighter as she guided him away from the guests and to the end of the red carpet. Then, just as soon as they reached the place, she gave him an encouraging nod and hugged him with all her might. "Now, be good and remember what I told you, okay? Always keep your head high and never forget that you are a Grande. Oh, I am going to miss you, son." Teardrops ran down Oscar's cheeks upon hearing those words. Quickly, he wiped his face before anyone could see him crying. He took one deep breath and then put up a brave face before gently letting his mother go. "I will always be your son no matter what," he whispered to her, before offering her his arm. "Now, will you escort me as I walk? I would be happiest if you would." His mother immediately snaked her arms into his and gave him a broad smile. The music then started, and both of them looked at Byron, who was standing in front of the stage with a huge grin plastered on his silly face. The devil was wearing a white tuxedo. "Let me join you." That was when his father appeared next to them and took his other arm. The three of them marched towards the stage, where Byron and the Minister stood. Oscar was about to explode, and all he wanted was to run away. If only Jason was here, he surely would have chosen to elope with him without a second thought. Jason was his strength; he was the only person who had his heart. "I wish you the best, Oscar." His mother kissed his cheeks. "Take good care of my son, Byron." She then kissed the groom's cheeks as well. "You both take good care of each other." His father hugged him tightly and let him go in a heartbeat. He then turned to Byron and shook the brute’s hand. "He is now your responsibility," he said in a stern voice. It was as if he was intimidating the man he was marrying his son to. "Yes, Alpha Carlo," Byron replied, and the guests started to cry at the scene. The sun was setting as it cast a sweet glow on everything around them, under the reddish-violet sky. The ceremony was short and intimate. Afterward, everyone joined them at the buffet to celebrate their union. Once they had eaten, they were ushered to the honeymoon suite his mother had prepared. It was a guest room in the mansion that was redecorated just for them. "Shall we, my dear husband?" As they entered the room, Byron held his hand for him to hold. The music was still blaring around the mansion, together with the screams of their drunk guests. Inside the room was a floor filled with rose petals. The bed had silk linens, and a heart-shaped pillow was placed at the centre. The lighting was a bit dim and there was mellow music playing in the background. "Which side of the bed will you take? Byron locked the room as soon as they stepped in. Gone was the sweet smile he had shown everyone when he sharply glared at Oscar. Oscar was taken aback by the sudden coldness in his groom. He knew that Byron was a brat, but he didn't expect the man's attitude to flip so suddenly. "I will take the left if you agree," he replied softly, not wanting to anger him. Byron started stripping, leaving just his boxers on. "Good. Take that part, and I will take the right side." He then slid to the bed and added, "Don't expect anything from this marriage. This union is only by paper. I will never touch you—ever." Oscar let out a disbelieving sigh. Who would have thought that his first night of being married would be a whopping disaster? Nonetheless, he was too exhausted to even think about that. He was pretty sure that this was just the beginning of his lifelong misery.
