Ada was fast asleep on her fancy bed. She was exhausted from the argument with her brother concerning her friend Kay. The moon had been in the sky for quite some time and can easily be seen from Ada’s window. The imperial guards were on their duty post with their spears and swords in place.
Suddenly there was a desperate cry for help followed by full-fisted knocks on the door of Ada’s chamber made of precious woods. The knocks stir Ada up. Her room was dark and she could barely see a thing. She thought she was dreaming.
“Help! Help me... Princess!”
She jumped up from her bed knowing there was no mistaking about the knock. The cries were loud and desperate, and it sounded like the cry of one who was nearly out of breath.
“Who is there?” Ada lights the candle and jumped out of the bed. She was in her fancy white nightgown. “Is anyone there?” she yelled out once more but unfortunately there was no response.
Hastily she slipped into her slippers and went for the door. Holding the candle in her left hand, she twisted the lock inside her palm and gently opened the creaking wooden door.
The darkness outside was so blinding that the candle was poor to give light to her path. The hallway that led downstairs was not visible to her as she barely can see afar from where she is standing.
“What actually happened to the palace lights? The maidens aren’t doing their work again."
She looked around cautiously and then glances at her toes. She wanted to dismiss the incident and pretends she heard nothing and goes back to sleep, but her heart and desires were so desperate that she wanted to see it to the end.
So she locked the door from the outside and set off to search for the one whose cries she thought she heard. She walked down the long dark hallway to the stairs, she slowly walks down the stairs.
Ada narrowed her eyes on the path ahead and focused her gaze as she slowly made her way down the golden staircase. As she reached the foot of the stairs, she was surprised to see that the front door leading to the palace was wide open and the guards were nowhere to be found.
Suddenly, she heard another cry and immediately she rushed outside the palace building not giving in to fear. She rushed towards the source of the sound. She was sure it came from the dark corner outside the palace where the guards normally sit for fun during off duty.
“Guard, are you alright?” Ada shouted as she reached for the guard who was lying on the ground. She was bold enough to approach the guard although she was curious to know why someone will knock at her door and then run back outside. She wondered if it was the guard that knocked earlier.
'Why did he run back, was anyone after his life? If Drew is behind this, he will never go unpunished?' This is so weird as the guard stood by the end of the corner paralyzed and spellbound that he could not move. She suspected Drew and vowed to make sure he paid with his life.
As she approaches the guard, she stumbled on another guard, dead and lying on the floor. He was wrapped with his red cape. “Oh no!” she exclaimed. “Did you do this?” she asked fixing her eyes on the first guard who was still standing next to her. The guard is spellbound and didn't answer her.
As she was about to check the dead guard, she caught a glimpse of a creature heading their way. The creature was making a purring sound and ready to feast on its victims. She turned around and has her dagger pointed towards the creature with a curved, pointed horny nails on each digit of the foot.
She thought by waving the dagger the creature will run away but she was wrong as the creature lunged at her. Before she could react, it had already dug its claws into her heart. Ada shuts her eyes and lets out a terrible cry filled with agony.
