These words sounded so shocking to Mina, when she had thought it was going as planned, he wanted to reject her. She had been warned against those words so she quickly hauled onto her knee, tears dropping, nose sniffing, and mouth spreading.
"Please, don't! Please... I will die... don't reject me... my wolf will die, I'm too weak for this," she screamed, pulling Ryker's legs.
"Mara, I can't, seeing her crying as this pierced me deeply, I am sorry, my wolf is mad," he said, pulling Mina up and walking her to where Leo, his Beta, stood.
"Take her to any vacant room, I will come shortly to see her," he said, handing her to him.
Mara stood stunned, her plan failed, and Mina staying would end her life before the next day. She had decided if she would rather die as in her afterlife, she needed to go out alone to think, she couldn't even have the energy to argue further.
She watched as Ryker walked up to her and was about to take her hand when she pulled off the hand from his grip.
"I knew I wronged you, I just think you can understand this. This isn't for me but my wolf..." he tried to explain but the more he did, the more her anger in her jaw hoisted.
"Shut it up!" Then a slap landed on his face.
She had slapped Mina then and not Ryker, she didn't even know how she came by that slap, she just found her hand floating and then a smack.
Blood gushed out of Ryker's mouth, she started to feel miserable which was against her plan. She had to leave, she had to stay away before she did more damage.
She ran to her room, trying to think of a way out. She thought of running away from death and the pack, so she could allow her sister to take her role, but she quickly rejected the motion. She was going to fight to live and not leave.
"Mina doesn't deserve to be a Luna and I gotta stop her," she burst bluntly.
The door opened and Lydia walked in feeling so sad.
"I am sorry for this. I just didn't see it coming, I just wish I could kill Ryker for breaking your heart," she said as she stood before her, caressing her shoulder.
"It is alright, Lydia. Who says you are at fault? You even warned me but I have been a fool, believing she was that innocent. How can I even believe she can't?" Mara tried to explain but Lydia halted her.
"I am, don't ever lie. I was the one who showed you where to find her, if you don't, you couldn't have found her," Lydia said as tears gushed down her eyes.
Lydia, who knew much about the human world and had helped Mara with places to find someone who was lost, and like magic, she did find Mina. It was also Lydia's idea that they should get to know each other away from the pack.
"C'mon, if I don't bring her, Ryker would have found her and this might even complicate the matter," Mara said, and she decided to tell her about her preceding life and her death.
She told her everything and Lydia couldn't believe it because Mina looked innocent. it could be hard to know how deadly she could be.
"This is unbelievable, are you gonna allow her to end your life?" Lydia's question was so hard to answer, she couldn't possibly run away from it.
"There is a way we can save your life, since Mina will insist on cooking, we can use one of the omegas to watch her," Lydia suggested.
Mina pondered about it at first then an idea plopped on her head.
"We will do something about it." She said as she drew Lydia to herself and whispered into her ear.
"You are smart but how do we go about this?" She asked in confusion.
"Let's watch and see how it works," Mara insisted.
Some minutes later, the door of Mara's room was knocked on.
"Food is ready," a maid announced.
Mara and Lydia walked out to meet everyone on the seat in the dining room. Mina sat on Mara's seat but quickly stood up as they walked in.
Mara's eyes scanned the table, the food was good but a cup was poisoned, the same cup she had used to drink water because she wasn't able to eat anything apart from water in her earlier life, now would be used.
Mina moved toward a seat, Leo sat by her left and Ryder sat by her right, then Lydia before others prominent in the pack.
"We can now eat," Mara announced. It was the custom in the pack that Luna must open the meal before anyone could eat, not even the Alpha could eat without Luna's announcement. Mina knew this, she had been told by the omegas, she had wanted to open the meal before Mara was called but Ryker stopped her.
Ryder couldn't eat much, his focus was on Mara who was eating without any care. He knew that he had a lot to say to her but she didn't wanna want to hear.
Mara avoided that cup but Mina was staring at the same cup every second. It would be a miracle for someone to shift that cup unknowingly, the way it was positioned. But Mara hoped just like Lydia said, there would be a way.
Lydia was planning in her head how to shift that cup away from Mara without causing many rifts. Then an idea cropped into her head.
"Mara, don't you think you need to eat more protein?" She cried out and everyone stopped eating and gazed at Lydia.
"You are right, the doctor recommended me to,"
"Mina, as you are the cook, can you get more meat for Luna?" Lydia pleaded, focusing her attention on Mina. There was no meat on the table, Lydia knew that Mina would never refuse.
"Okay, that's good," Ryder screamed in joy. He was happy that Mara was now starting to find Mina useful.
Mina was shocked, she never expected Ryker to accept that request, she sluggishly stood up and walked toward the kitchen.
"Mora, get more water," she called the omega which was serving Mina earlier. Mina had personally chosen her even when she was a recruit, but she obeyed and nonchalantly walked out.
Lydia stood up, "Let me pour you some soup," she said to Mara and walked towards her, she stylishly changed the cups and poured her some soup.
She returned to her seat after beaming with a smile and Mara was so happy. All cups were the same, but only she knew the one who was tainted, not even Mina.
Mina and Mora walked in immediately after Lydia's ass touched her seat. Mina shot everyone a smile and Mara got to know the meat would be infected.
She was already full, but she wanted to test Mina, "Let's share a meat, just to welcome you here as siblings," she stated, shooting her a wild smile.
Everyone glanced at them and was pleased with Mara's peace offering. But Mina's eyes almost popped out of their socket.
"No, I am full already," she said and swallowed hard before gripping down her water.
Mara and Lydia peered at one another and smiled. Mara dropped the meat and washed her hands. She excused herself as if she had some sort of headache, making sure she packed the meat to throw away later, she didn't want anyone to eat the poison. She and Lydia exited.
Mina didn't find it funny as she felt a spin of headache, she excused herself too and Mora followed behind her.
Before they could get to her room, she was already feeling the heat. When they got to her room, she managed to lay on her bed with Mora's help, shivering.
"Are you alright? You look sick," Mora complained in confusion, afraid to touch her skin because she was boiling at a high temperature.
"I don't know, I am boiling, call Ryker," she groaned.
**
Mara and Lydia celebrated their victory over Mina. They were so happy, they were still in celebration when the door opened and the worried Ryder walked in.
"Mara, Mina is sick, and my wolf is mad!" he said in frustration.
"Sorry wolf, I am not a doctor," Mara mimicked him.
He was so annoyed at Mara's behavior, he marked Mina and his wolf also felt the pains Mina wolf was going through.
"How could you say that I am your husband and she is your sister, I think blood is thicker than water, ah!" Ryker wolf howled.
Mara was so annoyed, the pains she was supposed to bear before she died were what they were feeling, yet he wanted her to feel for her and his wolf, mtchw!
"What do you expect from me? I am not a doctor, if the pain is too much, reject her," she insisted.
Ryker gazed at her from head to toe, and shook his head, "This isn't Mara my chosen mate, I can't reject her, I have marked her," he muttered as he snaked his hand on his gold hair.
"I am Luna Mara but I don't want to be anymore. I want a divorce, * she plainly said, gawking at him, eye to eye.
"You got no divorce, she is my mate but you are my wife," he stated.
"I don't want to be your wife anymore," she was pained, he had marked her yet he never wanted her to go. She had to do something about it.
She rushed out, not wanting to hear any more words from him.
She walked out of the pack, she wanted somewhere she could think, somewhere she could relax her mind from the betrayal she was subjected to.
She raced until she saw a stream and she decided to swim maybe she could think. She took off her dress and stepped into the river as it cooled off her tensions
She had no choice but to sob, sobbing her pain out and fretting her anger in her shoulder until she felt her reason coming back but yet her head was still blank
After hours of swimming, she decided to leave but when she wanted to swivel, her sharp eyes caught a large wolf staring at her. By its shape, she knew it was a Lycan. He shifted to his human form and she was shunned. She felt some pain in her chest and quickly looked away but his cuteness made her stare back.
He strode with a confident gait, his chiseled jawline catching the light just so. His piercing gray eyes, like sapphires set in stone, seemed to see right through you. His hair, a deep chestnut brown, fell in soft waves around his face, framing his high cheekbones and giving him an air of refined masculinity. His broad shoulders taper down to a narrow waist, a perfect V-shape that seems to draw her eyes toward him. He was tall, towering over most people, but he moved with a grace that belies his size. He was the epitome of rugged handsomeness, a man she couldn't help but admire, but she knew better than to have a thought on any Lycan, they were too proud and disrespectful. Her father had warned her against going to them and she better ignored him.
But the huge wolf saw two people, a bit of fluff and a guy watching her lustfully, hiding from being seen by her.
"Argh!" He grunted as his heart felt a lump...
