Judith was dreading the meeting with her step-son, Jeremiah. He was back home from the Army posting as he had been grievously injured. His stay at the place where he was getting his therapy was now over. He had informed her that once he was back from his friend’s place he would be staying at home.

This was after Jeremiah had left for his posting in Afghanistan. She knew that he would provide some amount of security but the job that she was being forced to do was even worse.
