Chapter 9 first day back to work

DANIELS POV

I've been super excited knowing Mia is coming back to work today. I got up extra early, showered and shaved. Put on a black suit. I even got a hair cut yesterday.

I'm now sat outside Mia's block of flats waiting for her to come down.

I see Mia coming out, damn she looks good. She is wearing little black heels, with a navy blue skirt and a light blue blouse. Her hair is clipped up in a clip. I quickly get out of the car and go round to the passenger door, to open it for Mia.

"Morning, how are you?" I say.

"Morning, Daniel and I'm a little nervous again. I was nervous then fine after my dad's pep, talk now I'm nervous again" she says.

I quickly close the door after Mia sits in the seat run round to my side and get in.

"Why are you nervous?" I ask while doing my seat belt.

"There are all going to think I'm crazy aren't they?" She says I'm not sure if it's a question or a statement though.

"No they won't Michelle explained that your mum passed away, if anything people have been asking how you are" I say, hoping it reassures Mia a little.

"Really?" She asks sounding a little hopefully and looking at me looking unsure still.

"Yes really, so don't worry they should be nice to you, and if anyone upsets you come tell me okay?" I say.

"Okay" she mumbles.

I start the car and head to the company.

"Mia don't forget if you can't handle it you can take time out or go home no questions asked okay. And you can even come find me if you just want a breather" , I say.

"I can't disturb you at work" she says

"Of course you can" I reply.

"But then surely others will talk and gossip making story's up" she says

"It's non of there business who I talk to though, you shouldn't let there thoughts bother you either Mia. So if you want me for anything just come find me okay?" I say.

"Okay, thankyou Daniel" Mia says.

"How about lunch today?" I ask.

"Okay, but like I told your sister it's going to be my treat as a thanks for looking after me, okay?" Mia says.

"Okay, but you really don't need to thank me though" I say.

A few minutes later we pull into the company car park.

"Are you ready?" I ask while looking at Mia who still looks a little nervous.

"As ready, as I ever will be" she says.

"Let's go then" I say.

We get out the car and head into the building. Mia goes to use the employees lifts.

"Mia where are you going? Come get in my lift" I say.

"But that's your personal lift" she says

"Yes, I know that but your stop is my first floor anyway, so it makes sense to share" I say.

"Oh, okay then" she says and comes with me in my personal lift.

"How come my floor is your first stop?" Mia asks.

"I know your nervous so we are going to head to the staff room, and have a cuppa first before you get started" I say while smiling.

"You don't need to do that" she says.

"I know but I want to" I respond.

Then the lift opens. "Come on then lets go get coffee" I say to Mia

We head to the staff room with eyes looking at us everywhere.

"Mia is it tea or coffee you want?" I ask remembering somethings she likes tea as well.

"Coffee please" Mia says.

"Okay coming up" I say putting the kettle on.

Michelle walks in "Mr wicks can I help you?" She asks.

"No, I'm having coffee with Mia before we start work" I say to Michelle.

"Oh Mia I'm so glad to see you, how are you?" Michelle asks Mia.

"I'm okay thanks" Mia says.

"Michelle make sure you look after Mia today she only came back last night" I say with a serious face.

"Okay Mr Wicks" she says.

"Here you go Mia" I say handing her a coffee.

"Thanks Da um Mr Wicks" Mia says.

"Why are you suddenly calling me Mr Wicks" I ask Mia

"Well uh um, everyone is staring at us so I figured being in work I should use your professional name" she mumbles.

She looks so cute and shy I think to myself.

"Mia we are friends aren't we?" I ask while making sure we have eye contact.

"Yes of course" she replys

"Well then I don't care where we are call me Daniel only" I say smiling.

Mia smiles at me. God that smile can light up a whole room I think to myself.

"By the way my mum said she wants lunch with you soon as well" I inform Mia.

"I will message your mum later" she says.

"Now how do you feel? now we have entered the building?" I ask.

"Well no one thinks I'm crazy now, instead they seem to be looking quizzingly at us talking and having coffee. If anything I think I see some green eyed people" she says.

"Why are they green eyed?" I ask.

"Because they like you and wish they were having coffee with you instead" she says.

"Daniel are you sure you don't fancy any of them women? I mean alot of them would love to date you" Mia says in a teasing tone.

"No i don't want any of them. You have to save me if they try to put any moves on me okay?" I ask.

MIA'S POV

"How would you like me to save you?" I laugh

"I don't know but some of them look scary" he says.

"Your scared of women?" I question while smiling with amusement trying not to laugh at that comment.

"No just a few, who look like they want to eat me alive," he says

I drink some of my coffee then say right "Daniel I hate to do this to you but I better get to work, I don't want to get fired on my first day back".

"Oh I don't think your boss is that mean he" says laughing.

"No he seems quite nice actually, but seriously I think I will be okay now my nerves are gone thanks to you" I say smiling. Infact I quite liked bantering away with Daniel I think to myself.

"Okay well I will see you for lunch yeah?" He asks.

"Yes of course, like I said it's my treat" I reply.

And we both walk out the staff room and say our goodbyes before Daniel heads off to his office and I head to my desk. But before I get there Michelle calls me over.

"Hi Michelle" I say walking towards her.

"How are you Mia? I've been worried about you" she says.

"I'm okay thanks its been a rough few weeks but I need to get back to some kind of normal" I say.

"You and Daniel seem pretty close now?" She asks.

"Daniels and his sister Leah have become good friends they took care of me when I didn't have family or friends around. I've never met people so nice in my life" I reply.

"Well I'm glad you got support, Remember if you need anything or any breaks then just let me know okay?" She says.

"Thanks Michelle" I say.

I then go sit at my desk and catch up with work emails and get up to date with the latest advertisement projects.

Before I know it I lost myself in work and didn't realise lunchtime had rolled around.

"Mia are you ready?" I hear Daniel voice,

"Oh my god what time is it?" I ask

"12:10pm" he says smiling at me.

I hurry to get my bag and then we head out for lunch.

"Where do you want to go" I ask Daniel as we leave the building.

"I don't mind you choose" he says.

"Okay well I like this cafe around the corner, let's go there" I say.

Once we are in the cafe and ordered our sandwiches we pick a table.

"How was your morning" Daniel asks me.

"Yeah it went by so fast I lost myself in work. It was definitely a welcome change, before I knew it you were there asking if I was ready" I say.

"I'm glad you had a good morning, I knew you would be alright" he says.

Then a waitress comes along with our drinks.

"Thanks" we say at the same time. Then we look at each other and the waitress laughs.

I can't help but smile and Daniel says

"Good minds think alike."

"Indeed they do, so did you have a good morning?" I ask.

"Yes it's been good, I started it in a different staff room though, and found myself enjoying the change of my usual morning work routine" daniel says with a hint of amusement ogln his face.

"Did you see all the shocked faces when you stood there making me coffee, I could of sworn people were ready to faint" I say

"Well just tell them my coffee tastes bad, that way I won't have to make coffee for everyone and they will pity you" he says.

Then the waitress comes back with our sandwiches

DANIELS POV

Mia seems in better spirits and we are having a laugh I can't help but do a happy dance in my head as the waitress leaves our sandwiches on the table.

Mia checks the time on her watch.

"We need to hurry up I don't want to be late back" she says.

"That's right you don't want to get fired on your first day back do you" I wink.

"That would require you firing yourself to, since your at lunch with me" she says while giving me a slight smile with slightly raised eyebrows while looking up at me as she picks a sandwich up.

"That's true but no need to rush, plus you were working into your lunch break anyway" I say.

Then my phones rings

RING RING RI

I quickly answer

"Hello Jenny "I say

" Mr Wicks sorry to bother you but I have

Mr pollard on the line wondering if you can meet with him half hour earlier" she says.

"Yes that's fine I will be back for then" I say

"Okay bye Mr Wicks" Jenny says

"Bye" I say and thrn I hang up the phone

"Is everything okay?" Mia asks.

"Yes one of the meetings has been brought forward from 2pm to 1:30pm" I say.

"Okay well we can leave now if you want to go prepare" Mia says.

"No there's plenty of time yet, plus I'm enjoying having lunch with you," I say.

"I must admit I never thought I'd become friends with my boss when I first moved to London," Mia says.

We enjoy the rest of lunch together then walk back to the company.

"Thanks for lunch but next time it's my treat" I say

"No need to thank me, it was my way of thanking you for for being so nice" she says.

"I know, but still next time it's my treat" I say as we walk into the building.

"Mr Wicks if I knew you had lunch with employees I'd of invited you long ago" says some blonde girl. I don't even know her name.

"Oh I'm sorry I don't, but Mia here is a friend not just an employee" I say.

While I look at Mia giving her a look that say's help me

Mia just smiles at me amused.

"Well still, I'd love to have lunch with you. I have loads of ideas for the company" she says putting a hand on my arm, so it would be a work meeting lunch instead she adds.

"I'm sorry but my dear friend Daniel here doesn't like people touching him, so please refrain from touching Mr Wicks" says Mia

"No one asked you" she says

I take her hand off my arm. "As Mia, here said please don't touch me. As for ideas please summit them to my assistant Jenny" I say.

With that Mia linked arms with me and said "Come on Daniel, we can't be late back to work now".

And we walked towards my lift. I can't help but smile and find it hard not to laugh at what just unfolded before us both.

"How was that for saving you" Mia asks.

"Well I think you handled it like boss, I think I should change your job to my personal security guard, to save me from all these women" I say.

"Me a body guard? No you need a bloke for that Job, the uniform wouldn't suit me" she says laughing.

"Alright, I won't change your job" I say as we reach Mia's floor.

"Enjoy your afternoon. I would come have coffee with you again, but I better go to the meeting" I say as the lift doors close.

"Okay I will see you later" she hurridly replys.

Throughout the rest of the afternoon I can't stop thinking of Mia. I even rang Michelle at 3pm to make sure Mia was fine.

At 4:45pm I decided to go down see how Mia's first day has been.

I reach Mia's floor and walk in to see she is engrossed in her work again.

"Mr Wicks is everything okay?" ask Michelle

"Everything is fine" I say

"Can I get you anything?" Michelle asks.

"Two coffees please, I'm going to see how Mia is, if I don't my sister will chew my ear off" I say.

I decided to use Leah as a cover story so no one clicks, I like Mia more than friends. I don't want it flying around before Mia knows, I like her personally myself

I then head over to Mia taking a chair with me so I can sit next to her.

"What are you doing here Daniel?" Mia asks when she notices me.

"I came to see you" I say sitting next to Mia.

"Hmm do you not have work to do?" She asks while looking at me with questioning eyes.

"No, I'm all done so I thought I'd see how your first full day back went" I say.

"It's been good, I've nearly finished for the day. Let me just save my work and log out" she says turning back to look at her work.

"Okay, no hurry" I say while admiring how beautiful she looks.

Michelle comes along with our coffees placing them on the desk.

"Thanks Michelle" I say

"You had Michelle make us coffee?" Mia asks.

"Yeah, I'm thirsty and she asked if she could get me anything. So I took up the offer and opted you for a coffee as well, aren't I nice" I say smiling

"I could of made I us coffee" Mia says

"Yeah but you were so engrossed in your work, I figured I'd join you instead of getting you to make drinks" I say.

"How very kind of you" she says smiling at me.

"I know, so would you like a lift home? Or we could go to dinner first, that way I won't have to eat alone" I ask.

"Daniel you don't have to worry about me you know" Mia says

"Who said I'm worried about you, your be saving me from a lonely evening" I say

"Well since you put it that way how can I let you be lonely! So where are we going to dinner?" she asks.

"I know a nice little nice restaurant, we can go there" I say

"Okay lets finish our drinks and then we can go" she says.

Half a hour later we are leaving the company getting into the car.

"Did you see how many people where staring" asks Mia.

"Let them stare, there just jealous" I say

"That's the point there hate me before long, you clearly have a long list of admirers" she says laughing.

"Well, I'm allowed friends, I'm even allowed a girlfriend if I want one! But it doesn't mean people should turn mean no matter who I'm friends with or who I may date. If anyone gives you hassle just let me know. I don't tolerate bullying in the work place". I say with seriousness.

"I know, oh by the way I messaged your mum earlier she asked me to lunch on Sunday" Mia says.

"I bet she is excited to see you, She liked you instantly from the day she met you" I say.

"I can tell, she has messaged me alot even rang me a few times" Mia says

Once we arrived at the restaurant we soon sat down. I ordered steak and chips while Mia ordered a chicken curry with egg friend rice instead of boiled rice.

I opted for a lemonade since I was driving and Mia opted for chocolate milkshake. It seems any chocolate mia loves, I've noticed.

"Thanks for today it's been nice having you near by, And it's been good to laugh again" Mia says while staring into my eyes.

"It's my pleasure, I like seeing you happier without having to flip a pancake on my head" I say.

"That was so funny, though feel free to do that again! so I can catch it on camera" she says laughing.

"I'm sure Leah would like it recorded as well she quickly" adds on.

"No, I'm good! I'm certainly not replaying that moment out again" I say while trying not to laugh myself.

Then the waiters arrive with our food.

"Mmm, oh my god this is so good" Mia says after the first bite.

The way she moaned and closed her eyes while enjoy the taste of the chicken curry was a turn on.

I quickly drink some of my drink, to try distract my thoughts.

"The food here is lovely isn't it" I say.

"It's amazing I wish I discovered this place sooner, do you come here regularly?" Mia asks.

"Pretty often mainly for dinner meetings" I say.

We had small talk while enjoying our meals. I kept stealing glances at Mia from time to time. I couldn't help myself. This is certainly more than some silly crush now. I really like her. I wonder if it's to early to ask her for a date? Would she want to date me? I'm So nervous but yet I can't stop thinking about kissing those lovely lips of hers.

"Daniel are you okay?" Mia asks Snapping Me put of my thoughts.

"Oh yes sorry, did you say something?" I ask.

"No you just looked lost in thought" she replys.

"I was day dreaming about pudding, would you like some?" I say.

"Oh, now I see what got you distracted can't say I blame you, pudding is always good" Mia says.

Yes pudding is good if only you were my pudding I think to myself.

"Okay, well what would you like" I ask handing over the menu to Mia

She has a look then looks at me and says "Cheesecake please".

"Not chocolate cake" I ask?

"Well that's my second favourite new york style cheekcake just comes in first place over chocolate cake" she says smiling.

"Okay then" I say.

I get the waitors attention and order a slice of cheesecake and a bowl of warmed up sticky toffee pudding cake with ice cream for myself.

After pudding, we argued out who would pay but I won that debate before leaving. I then drove Mia home and watched her walk into her building. Before I headed home for a cold shower, since I can't seem to stop thinking what it would be like to kiss Mia's lips, hell even what it would be like to kiss her whole body.
