5. His reasoning

I hurriedly opened the door and burst into the house, but not before slamming myself to father's. I blushed as I look at him.
Father looked at me, then he looked at Nikolai, then he put on his huge grin on his face.
"This meant nothing father! I will not marry him. You will not force me to do so!" But I was feeling defeated already. He had his guests in the living room, they all looked at me with a smirked.
Then I was livid, I was still feeling the alcohol and I was pumped with the adrenalin. I was mad, as I grabbed his hand gun that he always kept scattered around his living room drawers for emergencies. Then I shot Nikolai, I was aiming for his thigh, as he was walking towards me. But in my tipsy state I shot him higher, just inches from his groin. Making me laughed.
"Damn! I missed! I shouldn't shoot you while I'm still drunk. You will live Nikolai, thankyou for the ride back. Good night father, I'm gonna go to my room and sleep it off." I grinned to his guests, as they all looked confused and shocked.
Then I decided to run to my room like a little brat, while holding my laughter. I could hear Nikolai cursing loudly, and then there was a commotion and then followed by silence.
See...it's good now, everybody has gone home. Like they're suppose to. Now, I can sleep peacefully.
I laid my back to my bed. I was about to drift off to sleep, when my bedroom door were slammed opened.
Father was red, he never looked this angry before.

"Alina! Why would you do this to ME, to US! To our FAMILY!" His voice echoed through out my room. He had never been this angry with me. I was actually scared of him. I stayed silent, I had never been in this situation before. Then he gripped his chest, like he was in a really great pain.
"Father?...."
He slumped to my bedroom floor, I was instantly sober.
"FATHER?!!....."
"ERIK! EDUARD! HELP!!!..."
I screamed loudly, they came to my room seconds later. My tears falls, as I kept holding on to him, I could hear Erik calling our family doctor, then they took him away then Erik came back for me with Roza, as she gathered my stuff and put it in the car with him.
Father was still gripping his chest, but his eyes were closed. I was still crying. "I'm sorry father....I'm so sorry, please don't die on me. Please...please father don't leave me."
Minutes later we were at the hospital, he was taken to the emergency room, our doctor arrived minutes later and went directly to my father.
They wouldn't let me in, they told me to sit back and wait in the waiting room. I was pacing my steps, I was crying, and I finally rest on Roza's embrace.
"Ssh my little Lina....He will be just fine. He's a very strong man, he will get better like he always had. He loved you, he will not leave you so soon." She caressed my hair and lulled me like when I was a kid. I kept on sobbing in her arms.
It felt like hours when Dr. Michaels came to see me, and show me to his room.
"Alina, he just had a heart attack, we had done Electrocardiogram, bloodtest, and more additional test from chest xrays, Echocardiogram, angiogram and also MRI and we had given him some Thrombolytics. These drugs, also called clotbusters, help dissolve a blood clot that's blocking blood flow to his heart. The earlier he receive a thrombolytic drug after a heart attack, the greater the chance he'll survive and have less heart damage....."
He kept talking on and on...
"We will keep him here for the next three to seven days, we will monitor wether he will need a heart surgery or not..."
Then I cried again as Roza was keeping me close to her, when Dr. Michaels finally left us.
"Madam, I need to get back to my post. Erik will stay here, and stand by for you."
I was instantly aware with my father's work. The responsibility, my image, my credibility as a leader.
I wiped my tears and I could feel myself aged, as I set myself to take on my new role as my father's direct successor.
"Right, Eduard I need you to continue tonight's schedule, then report every thing to me by tomorrow after lunch. I'll probably be here, but just check before you come here. Erik you can wait outside father's room. I don't want him to have any visitor without my knowledge. Roza, I'm good now, I'll be fine....you need to tend the house, and bring my meals and change of clothes at my usual schedule." I finally let out my instruction, I could feel myself getting a bit stronger for doing so.
Minutes later they were all gone, leaving me alone with father. I pulled the hospital chair closer, then hold his hand, and rest my cheek on it.
I can do this...I am a strong independent woman...
I kept on chanting the words until I fall asleep, then woke up minutes later as father stirred in his sleep and woke up.
"My daughter...." His voice sounded so weak. I had never see him this weak in my entire life. My tears falls again, while I carefully hugged him.
"I'm so sorry father, I have made you so angry and made you very upset."
He caressed my hair, making me smiled at him.
"There's somethings that I need you to know, the reason behind the arrange marriage between you and Nikolai...."
"Father, please you need to rest. Look...I will do it, if it would make you better. Just don't leave me, I love you father. Please I'm so sorry that I've upset you."
"...we are failing as an organization, Markov had bought half of our asset just to keep us afloat. I had been asking their help, since I had known Alexei my whole life. And I know I'm not going to live forever my child, I had been sick and been keeping it from you. I wanted you to have my legacy, and this is the only way I know how."
"What do you mean you have been sick?" Suddenly I felt like my whole world had just collapsed around me. I was wiping my tears repeatedly, trying to look strong for him.
"Alina my child, I need to rest some more. We will talk later, the drugs is making me sleepy and tired." He took my hand and kissed it. Then he fall asleep seconds later.
I went to the bathroom and cry my heart out. I was sobbing, and crying, hugging my knees on the bathroom floor.
