CHAPTER 78: Elijah

“ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE OKAY, ROMINA?” Romina snorted the moment Luciel asked her the question. She turned her head at him and responded. “I already told you since this morning, Luciel. I am really okay. You don’t have to worry yourself that much and besides…” she faced him. “I should be the one to ask you that since… between the two of us, you’re the one who really got hurt. Ikaw `yung mas napuruhan sa nangyari.” “I am fine,” Luciel said. “Remember, I am a demon. I’m not gonna get hurt on something such as that.” “Huh,” Romina muttered as they walked together to school. They both took three days of absence after what happened to them in the village of no name. All thanks to Sachiel—who disguised as their “older cousin”—for covering them up in the school. Luciel didn’t know about it if it’s not for Simeon being nosy and told them about it. Luciel immediately frowned at her. “Why are you acting like you’re not convinced that I said that I’m okay?” “Whaaaaat? I am convinced!” “You don’t sound one, though.” “I am!” Luciel sighed as he walked side by side with Romina. “Yeah, yeah. Whatever really floats your boat, Romina.” “I am really convinced that you’re fine, Luciel. It’s just that…” Romina trailed off. “I just couldn’t help but get worried especially when I saw those wounds that you got because of that seal and I couldn’t do anything about it because I lose consciousness.” The demon looked at her in silence. Of course, as much as Luciel wanted to ask Romina about Serenity after their encounter with the Maupet, he couldn’t. He just couldn’t bring the topic up to Romina knowing that the latter didn’t have any memories of her fighting with the Maupet. And he didn’t want to make Romina feel bad knowing that the latter knew about his past with Serenity who’s actually inside her body. He didn’t want her to feel inferior over Serenity being her incarnation. Patting her head, Luciel spoke. “I know, I know. But I’m fine now. So, you don’t need to worry. You know, demons recover way faster than humans so I could just heal my wounds and injuries in an hour or a day.” Romina nodded. “Right. I forgot about that one.” “You’ve been stressing out on something not really worthy to get yourself stressed out. Just chill, Romina.” “I just can’t help it though.” “I know but you don’t need to worry. I assure you that everything’s fine and will be fine.” “Okay…” They both smiled at each other and they proceeded to walk towards the building. Suddenly, Luciel stopped when he felt a presence above them. He immediately looked up but saw no one above but he knew that presence didn’t bring any intention of harming someone. He just frowned and followed Romina towards their school building. It’s already five days and Luciel kept feeling that someone was watching him and Romina. Watching their every move. As much as he wanted to confront the presence, he couldn’t keep up with it so he planned to just observe it and be ready anytime it’ll going to attack them. But he couldn’t help but wonder if who the heck is the presence that he keeps on feeling and what’s its real intentions on them? “Luciel, are you really okay?” Luciel turned his head at Romina who looked worried as she stared back at him. They’re currently walking towards the rooftop holding some empty boxes to put there. They’re running errands from their adviser and they’re the only ones who were available so they did it. “You looked like you’re anxious over something.” “I am okay, I am not anxious,” he responded. “I just felt a presence that kept on watching us so I’m just trying to feel its presence more and making my guards up higher.” “Eh? Watching us?” “Yeah. I can’t really tell if it’s an apparition, a ghost, or just a mere being.” Eyes widen, Romina spoke. “Is it that guy Percival who wanted to attack us or something?” “No, no, I don’t think so,” Luciel shook his head. “It doesn’t feel like it has bad intention on us but I can’t tell if it has good intentions since I haven’t confronted it yet.” “That’s weird,” she said. “Why would that presence kept on following us?” Luciel stared at her for a second or two before he spoke. “That’s what I wanted to know either.” As soon as they’re on the rooftop, Romina was about to put the boxes on the side when Luciel suddenly pulled her, making her drop the boxes. She immediately turned her head at him and frowned. “Luciel, what was that—?” She saw how his eyes gleamed into crimson red while looking at something. She followed his gaze only to see an angel in front of them. Like the other angels she encountered, the angel has a pair of ocean blue eyes and permed brown hair. “You’re that angel who kept on watching us,” Luciel said. “Reveal your name.” “Hello, senior Luciel, I am Elijah and yes you’re right, I am the angel who kept watching over the two of you these past few days,” the angel named Elijah responded. “Pardon me for being rude that I kept watching the two of you without your permission. That must be creeped Romina out. It’s really impolite of me but that’s the order I got from Archangel Jophiel.” “Jophiel? Why would she order you to watch over us?” “I am not actually watching over the two of you. I am solely watching over Romina, senior,” the angel named Elijah said as she glimpsed at Romina before looking back at Luciel. “Because starting today, I am Romina’s newly assigned guardian. Your duty as her guardian ended today, Luciel."
